Simon, since you got back to the UK have you actually spent any time off the bike? I envy you your recent riding trips

I'm a long way from Heathrow, but in woods and lanes round my area if it wasn't for dog walkers we wouldn't have half as many great little trails. Walking the same routes for years has certainly produced a fine number of trails for us riders.
I've always said I would love to be able to commute to work on the bike, but there seems to be a lot more tails on here of meeting dodgy folk enroute & difficult road conditions

I left about 10 years ago, spent all my time on submarines, never went to many places but the work was quite taxing on the brain but enjoyable (communications) some jobs are better than others and require more between the ears, but those jobs have better pay. The guys I joined with, I still speak to and visit (was in Plymouth last weekend) they probably been in around 16/17 years now and are doing pretty well job and salary wise.
I would say the forces are great for single people but was you get paired up and kids come along, dealing with being away from home for long periods takes a very good relationship and lots of understanding.

Osborne also added front line forces to that 18k threshold, does that mean if your currently in Afghan/Iraq or elsewhere you will get a rise but if your a stores jockey at RAF somewhere-on-the-wold not really ever going to be in a warzone you won't?

Drove from Gateshead to Plymouth to help my mate move house, then drove all the way back to Gateshead next day with van full of house bits. result 870miles, to much motorway coffee, and a sore back.

No use to you whatsoever but when I was in the navy, my mate from Cairneyhill spent more time sleeping on in the copshop than owt else. Just thought I'd share that, it was back in the mid 90's and where he lived was a bit rough. Spent a couple of nights out in the town and boy was it rough.

    PS: I'm sure its changed

Bit of a hijack, but would you patch a small hole in a tyre?
I got 8 punctures at GT week or so back and had to walk back to lower car park from spooky wood. Found a small hole in between treads on tyre, was gonna keep the tyre for winter work, not sure if its worth stciking a patch on the inside and hoping it will hold.

Low Fell Cycles, Gateshead, great if you want to be told "you don't want to buy that", then get ripped off. Otherwise, not so great.

LOL, I live just a few hundred yard from this place, I find the guy is a pain in the arse. Agree with Davy.

I've only been into Bike Scene Guisborough a couple of times but they seem to be on the ball much more than most.
I here good things about Cestria in Chester le Street.

I have no idea how it happened it just did. I must have looked like a junky shooting up at the side of the trail, all these little bits of foil lying around from the back of patches.

I'll be having a good look at the tyres in the morning.

EDIT Road Bike! I wish I had been.

You won't need to be riding round Hamsterley anymore Mike, not with that on your (back) doorstep!

Mortgages are a funny business right now and I don't envy you with this. Some of the fees are huge and I would always recommend you trying to pay it off upfront rather than adding it to the mortgage otherwise you end up with no real benefit from taking the fix, your balance will be pretty much what you borrowed after the fix is up.

    Good luck.

First offer is always low, I was told to hold out for 2nd and got £1600 about 4years ago. I think there has been quite a clamp down as there have been loads of dodgy scams going on. ( not suggesting anything ) I've heard of old bangers been driven in front of trucks on motorways and slamming on the brakes, happened to one of our delivery drivers, but as he went into the back of the car he can't argue according to our insurers

I have one in the back garden, and I've heard they grow to a max of 40ft. So I like to keep mine in check to around 15-18ft ( I don't have any higher ladders) We generally massacre most things in our garden around late Sept early Oct, but I'm not sure if thats the right time.

Check with that well known garden expert George Google or Google to his mates.
