When I was a kid the old guy next door (everyone was old to a 5yr old) always used to tell me he was going to bible classes every sunday morning about 11.30 when I was out playing, never doubted him for a second. Until I was 16 and got a pt job collecting glasses in the local Working Mens Club and there he was the fly bugger sitting in the bar and his bible had a handle on it and was full of beer.

‘Bring your waterproofs as we have entered the rainy season’

This could be applicable at any time of the year!

Lived there for a while, out at Walney Island, whilst the boat was getting built. Bit grim, Cornwallis st has a few pubs on, take your own weapons though.

They used to do quite a few trips when the boat comes out of build or refit, I think there was a couple came to the states with us when we did spearfish and trident test firing for 4 months (that was a hard time  )
It was better than being in the Navy and spending 3 months away without sunshine 8O

His old mate Jimmy ‘fivebellies’ Gardner took a lot of stick over the years as an alleged hanger on, you should see the guy now, down to 14 stone and looking nowt like his old bloated self. Runs every day, fit as fiddle. Shame his pal hasn’t been able to turn it around as well.
I do pity him, I don’t think he’s a bad person, just very wayward and a bit lost. Shame.

Tugs always used to hang around. Staff wise it was Navy blokes going for a pint, but onboard during trials and work up you had dozens of engineers from equipment manufacturers doing testing and repairs to bits of kit that had wobbles now and again. I do recall a Mr Mystery from Marconi.

Carbon337, we used a rib that was onboard and send them off the side or use one of the RMAS tugs that was generally there as a support vessel. It would come alongside and swing a ladder over. It all depended on what tug was available.
Never got the chance myself, was either gunned-up as a trot sentry or on the bridge as signalman.

He did spend some time at a ‘facility’ near Teeside airport that specialises in dealing with drug/alcohol/mental health issues. People I know there said he did pretty well, that was last year and since then he’s turned all over the world solving major disasters with a fishing rod some chicken and a can of lager

Easy to criticise. Can you drive one of those?

Yes thanks, its been a few years but its just like riding a bike.

On ‘work up’ before being designated fit for operations you can spend weeks up around that area performing tight navigational manouevers and the like.

just like marcelino at the toon, wasn’t really there for a kickabout just the cash. Football is full of money grabbing shysters all built up by their agents and friendly journo’s (see Sky’s sunday supplement if proof is needed)some of the poor dears can barely change a light bulb without help from there agents or some other simpering sychophant (sp?). I think Rooneys issue is that he’s got caught with his pants down (again) and is fed up with the same media that built him up (and paid for his wedding) knocking him down. If he thinks going to Real or Barca is going to solve that issue then he can dream on. Nuggets, the bloody lot of em.

I was 8 in 79 and can remember as a kid watching the rubbish pile up and watching green goddess’s put out fires befor she came in to power. British Leyland and miner strikes dominating the news followed by months of the Falklands. Wasn’t much fun for me as my parents suffered greatly through continous bouts of unemployment, as I entered the workplace in 88 things had improved at home only slightly but not much for the people around me at work or neighbours.
If she goes, she goe,s won’t be missed by many people but there are plenty to replace her in terms of reprehensible politicians who can see no further than the end of there bank balances

the new European Resus councils guidelines on CPR will be announced on 18th Oct, this will result in changes no doubt to the current 30:2 compression/breath ratio for CPR. But don’t change your approach until your trainer tells you to at your next session of training.
I tend to recommend ambulance services above SJA/BRC training to most of my customers, the training is generally from people who got the t shirt.
Did my last course recently with the lead resus trainer at Manchester NHS and he was doing the DRABC thing, nice bloke.

On a serious note, its great the way things are turning out and the messages from the mine people and government types has been positive and fairly honest. No ridiculous predictions and stage managed BS ( yet! wait for them to get out ) I imagine Simon Cowell or somebody would be running the show if that happened here, people phoning in to vote on who gets out first.

A good news story, lets hope for a happy ending :D

Its good to have something interesting to watch on a sunday evening. Did anybody look at ITV on Saturday night? absolute crap.

Anyway, I like Louis and his ‘style’, weird weekends was great and his meetings with Terre Blanche a few years ago was interesting stuff.
Better him than Fearne Cotton interviewing Beth Ditto on itv2

always sent them my meter readings on time, paid by DD for 5 years, each year up went the DD’s from £70 – £126 so I decided to leave them and go elsewhere when they said they couldnt give me anything better.
I was sent 2 letters telling me I was a total of £99 in credit and I didnt have to do anything they would refund my money, now 3 months later I’m still waiting for the money. However they do ring me every month asking me to come back.

I thought that as well however I already have it on the pc, don’t know why I think the daughter put it on cos she thought she was getting an ipod last Christmas.
I tried loading albums that i have on my pc onto the ipod but it didn’t work, maybe thats where I’m going wrong and should be ‘buying’ them from itunes. I suppose it would be easier to get one of the daughters pals to come round and do it for me, however that could ruin my cred with ‘the kids’ havin said that it amounts to shit anyway, whats to loose.

I've been stuck working at home for the last week after an operation, and it amazes me that anybody actually does any work at all in the STW community. Everybody seems to be permanently logged on, that said all week I've had 2 laptops flashed up on the kitchen table, one for work one for play.
