yeah but don’t shout about it because they may try banning them too There will be a war on sport. And then driving. And then crossing the road. But not booze cos booze is good.

I’m sure if drugs (as defined in this context) were free and legal when I was a kid I would have tried them. As it was they were illegal and cost money so I steered clear. I bet there are 10’s of thousands people like me, many of which would end up just like the NHS statistics we have now

but what are the NHS/Police stats on drug casualties and the same for alcohol. In my personal experience (and I’m quite partial to both) I have been a stat because of alcohol more than once; one severe head injury, two random beatings by drunk teenagers, and another trip to casualty drunkenly trying to leap frog a traffic cone and smashing my face on the corner of a kerb. I have smoked alot and I have dabbled elsewhere and not once have I been to hospital.

    Alcohol funnily enough was legal.

I am currently trying to measure this for a local authority. It’s a tricky one, interesting too, highly subjective in my opinion also.

    I’ll email

bike in tatty condition does not mean stolen

very true, but then there is sentimental value too – I have a 1995 Explosif which I can’t bring myself to lock up in London cos it ‘might’ dissapear pretty quick.

Looking at that lock in the photo above that bike wouldn’t last 5 mins in London, or Bristol, or Taunton (what ever happened to the bloke caught with STWers help by the way) from what I have read here the last few weeks.

i can’t recommend anything because I never seem to remember a wine that I like – could be something to do with having an aversion to leaving a bottle with anything in it. I tend towards old world though – generally seems less alcoholic.

Anyway, other than the Oz Clark book mentioned above and going to a tasting (I was think of going to Vinopolis – or would it be better to go to Majestic/Oddbins) are there any other recommendations for getting to know wines – me and my girlfriend have just started buying quite randomly (i.e. without reading the label) and seeing if we can get any of the desciption. Although I think I need a notebook to remember it all – and the chances of leaving a wine for a year are pretty remote. Any tips?

    never

what i don’t unnderstand with all this political mess and the supposed gain the BNP and UKIP will get out of this is why parties like the Greens aren’t getting a look in. Are they really that bad the public knee-jerk reaction will be the far right? Weird.

used classifieds many times without issue, last few times was with Richpips which was a nice smooth transaction and got a cuppa out of it too. Then those just using the forum, a bit of emailing and the post were with (sorry, not sure of new login names) James Garbett which was a straight swap of rotors and Mark Charles who sold me a lovely load of XTR goodies.

Just wondering, if there is an ebay style rating system how do you control the sqabbles that occur when negative ratings appear (some will happen for honest reasons I am sure)

Having said that and followed the latest dramas I’ll keep looking at the STW classifieds

yoassarian – they released a second album sometime last year called ‘Directions to See a Ghost’…not as immediate as Passover but it’s a definite grower. Best loud.

    good to see Swervedriver above.

Anyway, my go and I think you should all listen to the Black Angels, especially the first album. Stomping dark psychedlic guitarry stuff. The band are great, they all swap instruments throughout a gig which is impressive. I like, I like alot.

that is no reason to push someone over with his hands in his pockets. The poluice are menat to set an example. ****, I walk to work everyday and there is always a slow peron in front of me, there are always inconsiderate people with pushchairs standing chatting and blocking the pavement….can I just go and batter them. In a way I wish I could sometimes but I know it is wrong. The police should be able to rise above a little taunting (if there was in fact any from the victim himself).

The focus of the investigation should be less about one officer doing what hundreds have done before him, and more about the whole tactics of teh operation

perhaps it should, perhaps it may make the police think a bit more before lashing out which as a result may influence a change overall…..

useful link that first one, ta dexbex. Regrading metal clips, I havent moved them since I’ve had them….where should they be?

just had an interesting chat with Hope who told me that unfortunately it could be one of those things. Assumming bearings are good (checking tonight) then it is just a compatability issue. Due to the floating spacer design, tolerances and the fact Maxles do not clamp the forks as a bolt thru or QR would then this small amount of play will happen. I wasn’t being fobbed off, the bloke was incredibly helpful and said if it was the bearings or a hub issue then they would replace no probs.

This will really bug me if it is ‘one of those things’. Bloody impulsiveness and STW articles scaring me about QRs 😉

but pads and caliper (Shimano by the way) issues wouldn’t account for sideways play without brakes on would it?

    whippersnapper

they are brand new Revelations with the new Maxle lite (luckily at old RS prices)

The QR is am doing as tight as I would a normal QR. To get it any tighter I’d have to start using something to get a good grip, do I need to do that?

just read this, sad, also scared the s**t out of me as I had a blood clot on the brain at 16 having had a slight biking accident. They thought I was whinging in the hospital when I said my head hurt alot. They next found me in a coma and rushed me into London to get it seen to. **** I’m lucky.

ok, checked the Maxle on it’s own without the wheel Rustydub, that has no play.

PP? What’s your theory…go on you can tell me 😉

Should it be a Maxle or bearing issue and given that everything is brand spanking new is it just something I have to take on the chin and cough up for or do you think contacting Hope/Rock Shox first is the way to go?

    check one headset
    check two front brake bolts

the play is felt when holding front brake and rocking gently, exactly the same as when I check my headset. If you do this and hold the front wheel too you can feel a gently knocking. Tip the bike upside down, foot on handlebar and gently move wheel from side to side i can feel very slight play.

Strangely before i put the tyre on everything seemed tight, it’s not the tyre though i’m fairly sure of that 😉

….hopefully not fingerbike, it’s a brand new Hope Pro2, admittedly the ends of the hub where you put the maxle through seem to have a lot of play but these are just guides rather than anything structural aren’t they?

    whippersnapper

sorry for slight hijack….but I am new to these maxle things. When I first got mine I don’t think I was screwing it quite as tight as it could go but there was no play from front wheel. Now I have put tyres on and screwed the maxle in as far as it can go I am sure I can feel ever such slight play from the front wheel. It’s not headset, caliper or rotor. As yet it’s not been ridden….anyone else had such problems?

just watched series 4 in a week and it was possibly the best yet.

Why is the Wire good? It’s just interesting, there is so much going on and at all levels of society and they keep all the characters watchable. There are no cleche lines like in 24, which are good now and again but can get tiring every episode. The action is good but it’s quite subtle, sometimes there a gun fight or whatever, sometimes its politicians waffling on but somehow they manage to keep it interesting all the time. And then the coolest characters, which there are a few but standout heads and shoulders is Omar, possibly the best character on tele in a while….

Stick with it, it’s worth it

my favourite area in herts which i’ve been riding around for 20 years has been totally destroyed in under a month…some arse managed to get their 4*4 in there. That upsets me. Got over the horse issue in hertfordhire years ago, still, they do get to me a times

havent been for a while but don’t go for the XC. If you’re up for a play and increasing a few technical skills (i.e watching da kidz show you how it’s done) then go along, it’s worth a day out. I only ever wore a helmet in terms of protection and was never frowned at, I’d probably have felt silly if I’d have ended up bloody though.

…..”its your fault didnt you see the sticker ? ”

hopefully that’s not the case, to be honest the driver probably won’t even know it is on the back of his van. How many vans/lorries have you seen being driven badly with “Is this vehicle being driven safely” telephone numbers on them, they don’t seem to worry the drivers.

all urban trained cylists know very well when its safe to undertake

I also think you are crediting many “urban trained” cyclists with more training (intelligence) than they have. I walk to work but I at least must see at least one cyclist a day attempting to be killed in various cringe-inducing manouvers.

Well we all do, dont we? (except approaching a junction)

that’s probably when the van will turn left
