anyone mended yet? I’m worse today.

What are new years eve plans for the manflu club then? Looks like it’ll be a party cocktail of lemsip, benedryl and nurofen for me. Or maybe i could get in the spirit of things and have a hot toddy or four. Woo and indeed hoo.

And finally heights, even a man made path on Mam Tor causes problems when I’m on the bike as I tend to lean away from the drop which cause more balance problems.

I share most of the issues above, particularly with the drops. It’s my eyes I think, I have a lazy eye. With a drop on my left I am fine but with a drop on my right I can’t ride with any confidence.

Anyway, here’s to a new year with confidence and balance in all conditions.

Most belief in gods, sit outside of the physical world

    very true

the things is, for me anyway, is that a lot of work goes into trying to understand the Big Bang etc which follows a process which I tried to put in words yesterday (ahwiles did a better job). It’s not about saying ‘god does not exist’ but more about needing (in my case, not that I feel I need to find a God but always open to ideas) tangible evidence that helps understand either God’s existence or how a person can have a relationship with said God.

I know there is also a whole lot of work that goes into this too, probably more so over time than into any scientific endeavour. To me though, like philosophy, it is opinion. And like Clint Eastwood says, “opinions are like arseholes, everyone has one”. This to me causes problems, there is no consensus. Again to me, because the majority of progress (this word could probably be debated a lot too) has occurred through attempting to understand the physical world I feel I need this sort of thinking to even contemplate spirituality of any sense. Being told to open your mind is all very well, but practical ‘tips’ would be better.

the effect on the world is predictable and repeatable

it is the predictable and repeatable that begin to help people understand the mechanisms by which things happen. Using your own example (for a different point) above when you could begin to predict that people would say Diana is dead, you changed your thinking (does that work as a point?). Maybe the ‘answer’ to gravity has not yet been solved but we certainly know a lot more about it by repeating experiments and observing the effects. We begin to understand what can be considered within a theory of gravity and what should not be.

I am saying because we don’t understand physics, we have to believe Physics / Physicists

you don’t ‘have’ to believe them. If it is a well documented theory and there is a highly-regarded paper/s on that theory you should (given you have the money and equipment) be able to recreate the experiment and see for yourself. In theory.

Once boiled add a knob of butter, a sliced chili and squeeze some orange over, then in the oven for a bit. Tasty.

Bubble and squeak in the mornings too. Tastier.

I like Dirt. I find it much more inspirational than the other magazines…probably because my riding is what you find in the other magazines and I am not so good at what you find in Dirt. It also makes me lust after a big bike.

I’m a bit too partial to the funny smelling ones and the odd rolly. Like Elf above I have to say the best rollies are after I’ve been swimming.

another way in is if you can find a research assistant/associate type post. I have been doing this for some years now and once in the department there always seems to be opportunities. So, whilst I am not a full time lecturer I often am asked to give lectures because of my experience. However, I don’t have a PhD (yet) but it is something I am strongly encouraged to do. Finding the time though is difficult to research and earn money.

I was ‘lucky’ enough to be shown the downhills mentioned above. Excellent fun although if you are as inept at downhilling as me you’ll spend a lot of time at the top looking down thinking ‘***k me, that’s steep’. There was a bloke there on a rather big Yeti making it look oh so easy. Enjoy.

GM crops looks like the last thing we should be worrying about now (I’ll still sit on the fence with this one – I can see their potential but I am not a fan of messing with ‘nature’). The synthetic biology and geo-engineering bit at the end looked far bigger issues to worry about. One such example being setting off a Pinotubo sized volcano each year to keep the climate cool. Now that is proper mental, it’s difficult enough keeping control of a river once we have ‘played’ with it but a volcano.

Mestizo looks like it might be worth a journey to Hampstead though

it’s not in Hampstead, that’s just the name of the road. It’s between Euston and Mornington Crescent/Camden. Just for info like…

It was nice to see a bloke achieve his dream rather than some poncy architect producing his ‘masterpiece’ or some rich idiot throwing money at an ugly building

I completely agree. Last night’s house itself wasn’t to my taste but happy for the bloke. Although I did like the tipped up fire.

Grand Designs is still great. I was particularly inspired by the Puglia one and also the man who lived in the woods and used wood, clay etc from those woods to build himself a home.

I have stated my point and I fully accept some people cannot afford this and that and the other

not being rude like but what is the point in that point? Life isn’t like that as has been pointed out many many times above. I completely agree with your point, it’s just the world doesn’t work in an ideal way. So, accepting your point, what do we do with that information?
