For example, tonight the conversation with my boyfriend goes like this,

Him- I’m not going to drink much tonight

Me- sure but you know you are cause you are going out with the boys

Fast forward a few hours and I’ve just had an interesting conversation with a very drunk boyfriend, who isn’t going to be home for at least another hour!

If you had asked me this a year and a half ago, I would have said no, I had a rubbish job, my marriage was at its end and I was at a very low point in my life, but now I’m with an amazing new man, living in Australia and I’m happier than I’ve ever been, so seeing as my only real plan in life was to try and be happy I would say yes so far this year it’s spanned out just great! 😀

Hi, that would be excellent if you have time at some point, I’m probably a little rusty on the bike I haven’t ridden for about 5 weeks, though I can’t wait to go for a ride and its always better to get a local to show you round! I have one of my bikes here just forgot my camel bak, some how I managed to pack just the reservoir! I will send you a mail and maybe we could arrange something?!

Thanks mikey, if Canada is where you want to be just go for it I say, or you will just spend the rest of your life wondering what could have been!

Or maybe like me go for a holiday see what it’s like first if you can, it might just be the best thing you ever do!

Look up Benar cottages on google, stayed there a couple of years ago was great and they take pets! The cottages are in Penmachno, had parking, and bike storage.

I’m an antique restorer/cabinet maker/upholsterer, so far just a work holiday visa but it’s a start and gives me a chance to see how things go a bit more long term out there.

I don’t know what it’s like for other jobs out there but, unlike here people seem to want to pay to have their furniture fixed! Also I’m not sure if this is just an Adelaide thing, though if you get the chance go there it’s beautiful, so green and full of wildlife even in the city, and it has a lovey laid back vibe, went to an aussie rules football game people and their kids having a great time, everyone getting on even though they were supporting opposite teams, not the Australia i was expecting!

Ok so a few of the blokes were piss takers but thats normal where ever you go 🙂

Thanks Scott, I did think of not taking the dog as you are right its f***ing expensive, but I don’t have that option, and honestly i couldn’t leave her i would miss her to much.
I’m so happy to hear the positive experiences people are having, i know it’s going to be a long possibly hard/complicated process but hopefully it will be worth it!

I am actually anticipating that the fact i’m a slim, young, blonde, woman to cause me a few problems, as in trying to convince some australian men that i do know how to use tools and i can lift something heavier that a teacup! Though even here i sometimes have a hard time convincing certain people!

Oh and on your other point, it’s harder than you think to use a chisel, saw etc, and end up with something that looks good and actually works! 😉

Ha Ha, yeh zokes, i think you are right they do just seem to say what they are thinking! Most of the time it’s pretty funny!

As for the racism, guess i will find out for myself when i get there, tho needless to say if anyone starts any, well i prob won’t be hanging around with them for long! And like you say unfortunately it’s something that is everywhere in different amounts, i have come across plenty in this country from people who seemed like nice normal humans till they started spouting crap about people of certain races!
One day we might all just get along.

    Thanks everyone some good stuff!

So the reason I want to go is because that is where the man i have a real shot at happiness is. After splitting from my husband last year (were together 10 years) i am really liking the idea of a proper fresh start and going on a big adventure and taking some risks in life! Somthing i have never really done, or ever had the chance to.

I’m not so silly as to think life will ever be a bed of roses, but from what i have been told/read i could have a lot better life there from a purely practical work/money point of view.

Here i work as an antique restorer and earn around 16k per year, not much for a skilled trade. I am a qualified cabinet maker/upholsterer too. Two trades that are on the gov list in oz.

The man in australia i want to be with works in the antiques trade and things are good and my skills would be in demand there and i could earn a lot more than i do here.

The bad parts, I hate spiders!!! It’s a long way from home, and nothing in life is for certain or for ever! I’m going out for two weeks very soon (would stay longer but i’m self employed so can’t afford it) want to check some stuff out talk to people there see whats what. If all goes well come back sort the dog and get myself a working holiday visa i’m under 30 so still qualify for that, go and see what happens if i like it great if i don’t i will come home, but it would give me a year to give it all a proper chance.

Thanks mikewsmith and tarquin for the offers of further advice i may well take you up on that at some point! I’m not expecting anything to be easy, and i realise that jobs and making friends is going to take time and effort and i’m looking forward to having to get out there and do that.

And yep the big money is in the mines out there, 60k a year to drive a truck! According to my freinds when people in Adelaide start running out of cash they just dig another hole and sell the crap that comes out of it!

Have also been warned about the racists, and i am very aware of how backward some of the poeple are there, my man also works part time for the red cross so he’s dealing with the nutters every day!

I guess i’m just looking for lots of different and real points of view and you guys are giving me that so thanks again!

Looked into doing this myself, if you want to do it properly look up SMBLA, there is a lot more involved than you may think and it takes quite a while to do!

So far I just haven’t had the time or money to actually get on and do the courses and assesments.

Having said that if it is something you really want to do then I’m sure you will find a way!

Because every once in a while when the planets align and you hit a bit of trail just right and you think “Wow I’m good at this!” Then seconds later you screw up and realise you are just human, or for the moments when you are riding alone and you feel like the whole world is yours!

Oh believe me I couldn’t be further from a, as you say “trail god”. You may have noticed my skills course thread. I just ride to have fun and sometimes that means I may go a bit faster than others but trust me my husband would be the one that overtakes first!

Well make sure you give it a go, I’m sure the fact its a blue graded trail will put some people off, but its great fun and not very long, though you do have to watch out for families and walkers!

Have you ridden the new blue Minotaur run yet? Its great fun the berms at the end are mad!! Makes you just want to pedal like an idiot, and you can get a nice jump out of the paved ford crossing bit!

Dealer retained margins can vary from 30-60% depending on the product, and most importantly, the size (buying power) of the shop.

WE NOW HAVE HEATING AND HOT WATER AGAIN!!!!!!!

Thanks everyone and extra thanks to flatfish, gave Neil a call this morning and he was here at 1, took him about 5 mins to fix it and cost me £40 well worth the money!

Apparently all it was, was that the reset switch would only run the pump for about 30 seconds, which was not long enough for the oil to reach the pump, all he did was attach his own reset switch that would run for longer! Easy when you know how hey!

So for anyone in the Bristol area if you have any oil boiler problems give Neil a call.

BTW Flatfish I think you know my husband Nick, hes a biking friend of Larry’s.

Thank you all for the help/advice. It’s a worcester 12/14 boiler but I have no idea what kind that is, or what a tiger loop is.

The level outside on the tank is reading higher than where the pipe enters the house it does seem that it should be fairly simple to sort! I did see the plumber removing a small screw on the front of the filter would this be a bleeding point? He didn’t seem to use anything other than an allen key and a subway napkin, so I think you are all probably right, he was shit!

Something else that has just come to mind is that if when you run out of oil the system needs bleeding, why these boilers are not fitted with something for simple folk like me to just press or pump to do this! oh well. 😐

I’m not sure I can lift 500L of oil! I will try though!

The oil tank is on the opposite side of our drive to our house so a fairly long pipe I guess, the plumber said that the oil is getting to the house and then up to about floor level but there is not enough pressure from the tank to push the oil up the last foot of pipe into the top of the burner. Did this bloke just not know what he was doing? If not I’m annoyed that I wasted good coffee on him!
