No ones asked what you intend to ride it on, a ride around the block, trail centres, moorland, woodland, singletrack, etc etc

I’ve found my mates who have bought bikes without Deore (the minimum shimano gear set for real offroad) bikes have really struggled,
acera, alivio and Altus although fine for roads and smooth offroad canal towpaths, but give them a few rocky stretches and the limitations are clear..

Spend a little bit more and you will enjoy biking more. As others have said if you can get a airshock and a Deore drivetrain then those gear changes and bumps will be no problem

Have a read of this http://www.bikeradar.com/gear/article/buyers-guide-to-mountain-bike-groupsets-42578/
It may give you a little knowledge before buying the first bike you see

Slx m675 have stood me well. Just got a new bike and put xt m8000 on them, felt inline with the slx, then I got them properly bled, liquid pushed from calipers to lever reservoir and back again and they are quality, so sharp..

My mate swears by his hopes, but they are double the price of the m8000

Every weather in one day, every day this week in Yorkshire
Rain, sleet, hail, sun, windy, snow, doing my head in, don’t mind cold and wet, but prefer not to have to change every twenty mins

Lots of ideas on here, thanks for the name, not heard of that before today and I’ve now read it twice,
I’ve done two sections of this both quality and it sounds a superb route

During happy hour, beer prices are no more expensive than the uk, download the app
Appy our Reykjavik and it lists every bar and prices and happy hours

We found to eat out the Thai and curry house, as with all Scandinavian countries ethnic food tends to be well priced compared to steaks etc..

We had a great craic a few years ago on a stag, we took rum and whiskey for flasks on a few trips,
Remember at the blue lagoon their is a limit of 3 beers per person

i got the rab one its excellent, although i’m pretty warm bodied, so can only wear a tshirt under it on all but the coldest days..

my wife got one from decathlon £45 great quality,
under a hundred i tried on the jack wolfskin zenon down to £78 now by the looks of things, i liked it, but prefered the cut/shape of the rab

and i usually find if i buy cheaper i buy multiple times,
so ‘pay more once’ and it’ll end up cheaper

4000 houses seems overkill at present, plenty of houses for sale at all values. Although many have been on for ever as they are overpriced.
If the government really wanted to solve the issue, they need to put punitive tax on buy to let mortgages and rental income and stop the current trend of investing in property. Houses should be a home not a quick profit

Maybe of use to people who aren’t sure if they are depressed or not

I know I suffer from sleep issues (waking up ridiculous o’clock), over eating at times, lack of motivation and my concentration is poor, but on a scale only 7/27, although score has been far higher in the last few years

I use the lifeline co2 screw on adaptor £3.50 and enough 2 pack 16g co2 bottles to get free postage on wiggle, I carry a lezyne alloy drive as well but not really required

@sandwicheater @RobinL its a big area, its got to be a few hundred metres alongside the railway track to hit the bridge and then another few hundred metres to the road corner just up from the ravesnthorpe train station. and then all up that hillside including the woods with the jumps and bridleway upto a farm and up and over to briestfield..

4,000 houses up their, not sure where the excess traffic, kids and such like will use the roads, schools, doctors surgeries hospitals and lack of A&E..

if they are building around sands lane, (ie the road between the fishing ponds behind the ship in upto the golf club, then i wouldnt want to live their, its always wet and boggy, so damp and flodding could be a real issue,

its a quality ride in summer, but last weekend i kept getting bogged down half way upto my front hub, horse hoof prints and deep mud are a challenge

thanks for the advise guys, I’ll try my endura shorts next time, and i agree, i wish i’d been on my mtb down ingleborough its a long walk that would be far more fun on a mtb

    i’ll check 5.11 too

thanks for the input guys, its a tricky one, i wasnt going overly fast, its nice and open (strava lot go twice the speed),

    just found this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RNM-55BaBgE
clip which at 2mins 4-6 seconds

i would have appeared as the golfer had swung, he was aproximately 10-15m from the bridleway edge 30-35 metres ahead of me on the left.

his argument was i should have stopped. but the abuse he was hurling my direction was overkill, he had hit it before i became visible to him, i could see the ball up high overhead. so i felt no need to stop and as it was inline with the golfer i peddled on to avoid the line of flight.

bad timing, my fault, a golfer ****, to be honest the regular tee off is much further down, the majority of golders if they looked to be ready to swing i’ll stop, or they’ll wave me through, just one bad attitude,

i’m not having an old man stamping up and down shouting abuse, but same time he looked that angry i wasnt stopping for a chat

I got shouted at by a golfer as I rode down through a golf course on a bridleway last weekend, I appeared as he had swung the club and I could see the golf ball going up and over directly inline with me, but I was doing about 18-20mph so carried on, (it’s wide and open apart from the foliage/woodland that had obscured my view as I went round a long wide bend in the 2-3 metre wide path

This golfer starts shouting and swearing at me, that I should have stopped.. But I wasn’t braking hard to stop for the chance of a gold ball to then hit me..

I politely called him a “bell end” and was on my way..
It annoyed me as I didn’t feel I had done anything wrong, maybe it’s an unwritten rule I stop and not give a distraction

I had it on my right shoulder arm, lasted a couple of weeks, felt like electric shocks, went to a good friends wedding and my arm was dancing before the disco at night..

Still got the scars, as above if near eyes go seek advice. My doctor said their was nothing he could do, and just rest and take painkillers, i was covering a maternity at work and she was handing over and started some nonsense that she shouldn’t be near her and even though I told the doctor and he said it was nothing to worry about she still went off on one, I think she just wanted some time off,

Hope it gets better soon, it will

Not read bad reviews for endura before now, my stuff has been quality,
Like all the above comments I prefer other sports wear

I have a few H&M base layers and hoodies that are a real bargain. As are the running tshirts that have great material cut and finish

Quick dry hoody is £14 http://www2.hm.com/en_gb/productpage.0179816038.html

Are you looking for bright colours that shout out then go for fox, Troy lee
If you want good quality well priced hard wearing I’d recommend the endura brand (scottish designed and tested)

The hummvee shorts are extremely hard wearing available in numerous colours and come in an inner padded short/liner approx £45, I prefer the singletrack shorts but no liner,

Altura also come well rated, but the products my mates have had say they are no way as hard wearing as endura.

Three maybe, it’d be a jam to then put bikes on are you planning to remove the pedals, in theory the frames can be moved forward or backwards to allow room for the handlebars at either end.

Great event, I felt it could do with a park and ride, by bus or bike, well at least that road had been surfaced, last year I went to a game at Wednesday and it was potholes galore

As above the lezyne alloy pump is quality and is by far the best mini pump I’ve ever used, and is secure under the water bottle, but bag it up otherwise gets wet and muddy fast

For summer I have a montane featherlite mountain Pertex jacket that comes in a small pocket the size of an inner tube/Apple, 150g max, stowed in my pack, had it on the other week in a howling Gail and light rain, heavy mud and with just that and a base layer I was snug, and wind proof .

makes me careful too as one crash and It’ll be knackered

Sold my hybrid , so A 26″ hardtail , a lefty 29er and a new 27.5″ full sus, didn’t realise how fast and agile my full sus would be, so the 29er hasn’t been ridden in a while although tubeless is still holding up , can’t see myself riding my 26″ hardtail so going to do a short term swap for a road bike with our kid

Always have a couple of bikes to guarantee rides out otherwise issues and maintenance can get in the way

Mainly solo, I have a good group of riding friends but commitments Wags, kids, other priorities get in the way, and I’ve stopped asking if anyone wants a ride out, it’s far easier to say I.m going for a ride at X time and X place , as otherwise one mate will say can we do the afternoon, another the morning and the third will turn up an hour late and then decide to change his pedals or tyres to suit the conditions so a 2-3 hour planned ride turns into a full day of 2 hours riding..

If I set up from home my bike will be ready, fill up my water and off I go, the last time I went to my mates on my bike 10 min ride down, it took an hour 45 to set off.. A ride I can do in just over 2-2 1/2 hours turns into 6 hour waste of a day, and a disgruntled wife when I get home so late

Haha my stans tape was sticking up once I’d cut it and overlapped a bit full circle, I used some sealant but it kept popping back up so after some thought I superglued the end down, worked a treat..

Thanks BillOddie I had a feeling their would be a negative to gorilla tape and wondered about residue once changing, the stans yellow tape seemed to split at the worst moment so I gave up on it, on the gorilla I used a width enough to cover the spoke holes so never had issues with tape on the inner rim edges

    whatyadoinsucka

watch the youtube videos i’ve recently done a few tyres (non tubeless no problem) , joe’s is an ok video as is stans. (main difference being inserting fluid through valve core or the bottom of the tyre before putting into the rim

dont bother with the yellow stans tape, i was chatting to a lbs guy and he swears by gorilla tape, £2.80 a roll, work out the width on inner rim and tear, or put a slight cut to start the tear, it will then tear around the roll pretty straight. once taped put in the valves put the tyre on and either seat the tyre and add fluid through the core or as stans, pour in just before the final bit of tyre,

i used a joe blow pump and it gave a reassuring bang and crack when the tyre seated.

hold the tyre two handed and shake whilst passing the tyre around, so the sealant fully covers the inner, then rest on a bucket each side for 10-15 mins.

    good to go

Philjunior don’t judge others by your own thoughts, if a user is naturally competitive then seeing a mtb beating them when they know they are on a 5kg road bike then I can’t imagine they like it,

I like strava for finding new off-road routes and rides, the Tarmac sections don’t really matter to me, I know from riding a commuter with skinny wheels that a mtb within a quarter to a third over a road bike time is generally good going, so my competitive streak doesn’t care

Depending where you are can fly direct to Salzburg, I find Munich has cheap airfares , and the train to munchen is really cheap, get a bayern pass that last a couple of days and covers 3-5 adults for the Bayern German region including the the trainline to/from Salzburg
