thanks @ESME i signed up for the 4th sept, so I’m gonna ride the HB down passed todmorden to rochdale and upto Bacup section of the MT loop on saturday
and then back over to todmordon for a pint and my train home.I think it is marked with an Acorn logo, so will take care at Summit to go west, and avoid extra miles
whatyadoinsuckaFree MemberAs 4ags4 says, I had this issue when swapping a cassette on a mavic wheel, and didn’t spot it on the old casette for a good 30 mins, has it dropped off when you were working on it
Looks like this
http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/mavic-cassette-spacer/rp-prod25399whatyadoinsuckaFree MemberYes I think I do, it seems the media in their attempt to sell ad space, have to talk about the next big thing and variant of a mtb, boost + sized wheels , 1×12 all advancements, but the end of the day we could all still be riding bikes from last year or 10 years ago.
For me mtb’ing is about a ride out with mates or a ride out into the wilds and only say hello to a couple of people.
Can’t beat getting onto the Yorkshire moors or peaks and not seeing a building or person for miles.Inevitably I may have to ride a few roads, bridleway to get their. But it’s all fun
Trail centres have their place, and sometimes I wish I rode them more, far easier tracks and smooth riding, yes you can go big on the jumps, but at the same time you can roll the vast majority,
whatyadoinsuckaFree Memberi use garmin connect with my vivoactive watch to sync and then that syncs seemlessly (90% of the time) straight over to strava, far more effective.
in terms of getting a full ride, click on the leader boards and then name to see riders routes, and then piece them togeather from their
whatyadoinsuckaFree Memberi’ve received two canyons this year both arriving 2 working days ahead of their 10 day sla, both were in stock at the time.
whatyadoinsuckaFree Memberi’ve currently got a 32t on an 11 speed 10-42, and the lowest gear will get up nearly all my ascents, but i’m gonna go down to a 30t, so i can spin my wheels in a lower gear, rather than grind out the uphills, I had bought a 28t but decided that may be overkill (although in winter when its wet, muddy and lose rubble then i may try it), i’ve noticed my legs have been really aching alot recently i put that down to not having the granny gears. (doing circa 110km, 2000 metres ascent a week)
as always depends on terrain, fitness, and climb in metres etc
whatyadoinsuckaFree Membergarmin edge 20 for £80 would work, you would sync it to garmin via a laptop/pc,
whereas the newer edge 25 would bluetooth sync to a smartphone/ipad.second hand on ebay may be the way to go
whatyadoinsuckaFree Memberto me
29er Fast
27.5 more fun..i ride the same routes on both wheels sizes and the 29er always feels slower, but in fact is usually faster on strava.
whatyadoinsuckaFree Memberit made me chuckle the other day people recommending you the 150mm suspensions, imho the max you need is 120mm, i’ve ridden reds/blacks singletrack around hebden bridge / peak district etc on 100mm and been just fine, (no jumping),
i have various bikes i like them all (29er lefty, 120 fs trail, 150mm all mountain/enduro ?? (150mm pike), if i was to chose one i’d probably go full suspension, and 650b/27.5 wheels, with the 120mm-130mm travel the reason more fun, 29 wheels for me are faster but just dont feel as fast. and it goes uphill well as lighter.
your list is spot is now spot on, go and ride a few, you’ll soon know what you like and dislike. my mate swears by his whyte 905, i’ve ridden it, wasnt blown away.
try to get a bike with the revelation 130mm or yaris fork, for that price range.
whatyadoinsuckaFree Membertheirs plenty to chose rochdale, hebden, sowerby, mirfield,
a good intro ride could be this,
whatyadoinsuckaFree Memberits due rain from tomorrow.. was gonna do a dry ogden/oxenhope loop saturday too :0(
whatyadoinsuckaFree Memberi’m trying to decide whether to do this in a few weeks time, on the local mountain rescue challenge.
the dates are bad so i’d be on my own, has anyone done this event, the information seems limited can anyone confirm from past experience;
are their drink/food stops. is any additional signage up,48 mile and 2000metres seems the top end of my fitness so i’d prefer to stay on track. I’ve ridden sections of it around hebden/todmorden/rochdale before
I thought i’d ask on here before emailing them.
any other info greatly appreciatedwhatyadoinsuckaFree MemberThe canyon’s are a great price at the minute, you sound more geared to the Nerve 120mm, definately all round I got the basic one with reverb, monarch and Deore, then upgraded the drivetrain and brakes, , these suspensions pretty much lock out, unlike my spectral although I like it, it is definately enduro downhill orientated with thicker tyres and the 150-140 suspension.
If you have a specialized dealer local, the camber 27.5 wheels version, is a good all rounder 120-130mm suspension, my mate got the carbon fibre for £2250 with 10% back in gear recently, cyclestore also do the aluminium version for £1500 incl 10% back in gear vouchers , lovely bikeI’ve found the 27.5 much fun’er to ride than a 29er, although the 29er is faster it doesn’t feel it
whatyadoinsuckaFree MemberMaybe to safeguard the track if someone falls off,
Hoy says weight on inside turn as always going left, (anti clockwise
whatyadoinsuckaFree Membera hardtail makes you pick your line better, its good to ride one from time to time to up your game, but my mate must have balls of steel the speed he goes down some singletrack our way.
whatyadoinsuckaFree Member{}
Why do you care?{}i dont particularly, its good to see anyone out on the bike getting some exercise, over the monotonous shoppingtrips many seem to do weekend in weekend out
just IMHO if you are gonna buy something, you may as well use it to its functionality, same with 4WDs i’d buy one if i felt the need to drive offroad :0)
whatyadoinsuckaFree MemberMay not be much of a help but
I got a nerve in a medium and a spectral in a large, I’m aprox 5,10, I think I submitted a height of 180cm, 31″ inside legThe nerve is slightly on the small side, but with a bit of tweaking to the handlebars and seat the medium nerve is now fine, although the saddle post is very high.
I decided to get a large spectral , the stand over height is so much higher than the nerve, the reverb post is at the lowest point in the frame, and when it’s at full height it is perfect, but if I was any smaller i,d be on my tiptoes
Again it rides well for mewhatyadoinsuckaFree MemberDifferent bikes for different occasions, the better the rider the less travel the rider needs, I’ve seen a guy on a 100mm hardtail lefty leave for dust a 150-160mm enduro bike on the Cutgate descent.
The bike mags main aim is to sell bikes, to me overbiked is a bike that the rider doesn’t/can’t get the most out off.
For the majority of uk riding a 100mm hardtail is plenty adequate although everyone likes the better things in life, a bigger suspension offers the opportunity for the less skilled to make the wrong line and come of unscarred..I’m always embarrassed for the fat lads at trail centres who are sat on £3-4K bikes that have to get off and push up the slightest inclines
whatyadoinsuckaFree MemberThe new bobafett and storm trooper bell full face helmets look pretty good
whatyadoinsuckaFree MemberOne day I’m gonna go in the cancel too, I ride prime target areas for the Yorkshire dipper , that and the towpath under bridges is far too narrow for two bikes,
whatyadoinsuckaFree MemberAs others have said
UPS, DPD, & TNT are the best ,For Hermes and Royal Mail it depends on the local delivery man courier and luckily both mine are spot on, plus my neighbours very hospitable too
whatyadoinsuckaFree Memberseems every norcosight is getting wrapped around a tree this weekend
check out gdschmidt crash at parklands mtb park on instagramwhatyadoinsuckaFree MemberDefinately grey for me looks superb, was only saying the other day to the missus I wonder if the big expensive brands will ever get on the GPS wagon, I love my garmin as so much more than just a watch
whatyadoinsuckaFree MemberOh dear, wasn’t their a death of a toddler sat out in a hot car outside church in Texas last week , whilst his parents prayed inside,
Was it God or the parents will ?Religion a means of controlling the masses
whatyadoinsuckaFree MemberGearing ratios can be pretty simple , using teeth on Front ring divided by rear cog
So you are currently running 28t/36t = 0.7778
If you want same with a 42t cog you.ll need a 32t (0.7629)I’ve just got a new bike that has a 32t and 42t cassette 0.762, I’m used to 24t/36t (0.66666) granny gear, and this week after 3 rides totalling 114km and 1633m climbing, my legs are really aching, far more than the previous few weeks with the same distance. For that reason I’m gonna drop to a 30t (0.714) , (I bought a 28t but I now think I can cope with a 30t front chainring) the trails are dry, so whether that works in winter I’m yet to find out boggy rubble trails, mud and woodland will all likely mean wheel spinning..
My style for uphill is to spin at a high cadence, rather than grind out slower on a higher gear. Hence I like a granny gearIdeally you need to add gear inch into your calculations, as they will impact to the ratio, as larger wheel/tyre circumference will make a difference too, namely you need a low number on a 29er as a 26″
Ps, if you use a 11-36 Xt casette consider taking out the 16t or is it 19t and put a 40 or 42t expander ring on, lots of companies make them, may be a cheaper option
It’s all personal preference, fitness, usage, where you live, what you ride on, distance ridden, if you like to climb or get off and push etc etc
whatyadoinsuckaFree MemberAs the blurb says its discretionary, I’ve caught the train from my local stop to hebden bridge and mytholmroyd (northern rail) a few times recently, the guards have been pretty good, even friendly and asking me about the riding,
But not Having an issue with the muddy state of my bikeBottom line is its discretionary over 2 bikes, if it’s a busy train then they may enforce the 2 bike rule, if this is the case with a busy platform split up, and look like you are seperate travellers. I’m not sure they would object to a couple and a single bike. Cross your fingers you don’t get an anal guard
some of the trains have specific bike racks storage other trains just have bigger spaces for storage, look for the green bike logos above the doors, as the conductors/guards will advice which doors /carriages to enter the train
From memory I saw a couple of kids with BMXs and then a child/parent carrying bikes and they all got on, smaller bikes mind
whatyadoinsuckaFree Memberdefinately a flasher, got a lezyne femto £7-8 and they are brilliant, wasted my money on many styles before that, the zecto drive may be better if commuting (usb and brighter).
had a play with the moon ring in evans, thats a nice one too
whatyadoinsuckaFree Memberaha,

whatyadoinsuckaFree MemberI feel your pain, got the same issue with rolling Ralph pacestar and hope enduro wheels,
Even the airshot hasn’t worked..
