20 mph is fast, i’d aim for 25kmph to start with. do it for the enjoyment / fitness benefit, then when you are back into riding and enjoying riding, start setting targets

final question, i promise, what downtube protector?,

i messaged rockguardz and they only do XL on the latest model V5 ? the one with the trap door frame,

anyone know if the down tube sizing is identical to the V4 2020 onwards, it certnainly looks the same.

thanks for tyre indo, is the rekon alright on a 29er 2.4, i’ve only ever used the 2.8s on 27.5 and remember hitting a corner and a friend saying hes going a bit fast for that..  no side grip whatsoever. skidded on sheep poo and bike went sideways

:0) LOL @ stevedoc, i have no warranty so a 150mm could work and my fox36 is 150mm and i think its the 2021+ model so thats the expensive airshaft :0( to make it 140-130.

i was thinking i might ride it at ardrock on friday if its up and running by then, over my slash

i had a quick blast on it last night, with the stock NX / pike 130 and shock/fork fully open it actually felt faster on road than my yeti arc (albight tyre choice and placebo may impact that assessment.

what tyres every one running, it came with a dissector (which intend to use for summer (any good for winter) and recon, i usually run an assegai (too burly i feel) or DHR front/back.

banks now have to inform hmrc of interest earned, didnt really matter till rates went up last year.

i noticed monzo asked me for my NI number last year, long after registering.

+1 for hmrc arent great.. messed up SIPP contributions and under repaid £600, no letter to say our mistake..

just about to pickup a SC tallboy, what fork is everyone running, i need to convert a fox36 to 130 or 140mm, probably go 140, looking for riding local woods / pennines moorland riding / cutgate/ladybower loop 4-6hours type rides..

demo’d one at stainburn last year, and it just felt like my old 5010. so couldnt pass up

do not buy orbea, they are not designed for uk weather, bearings too small and warranty/ after service is non existant.

fed up of the wobbly back end and constant need to replace bearings. on a top spec occam 21 model

orbea response “bearings wear”, what after 3 rides ?? poor design allround..

    **update**

sent a query letter last week to ensure HMRC had used gross contributions and not the Net contributions.

As thought, HMRC had used the Net contributions for the tax calcs and so had underpaid, they have recalculated using the Gross Contributions, and an additonal cheque is due out in the post..   ;0)

lesson learned: only submit gross contributions or it’ll confuse..

is it an ardrock epic Andy, ie full 45km, on the friday ?, can you check if its amendable to a regular pedal bike, I’d be interested if so..

ps. is it the same as the last few years, ie same as enduro 45km and 7 stages,

can you pass on some element to a partner assuming they are a basic rate taxpayer..

and remember  Interest on joint accounts
If you have a joint account, interest will be split equally between the account holders. Contact the savings helpline if you think it should be split differently.

    @poolman possibly

    and thanks @slackboy

(she only sent them net amount, it wouldn’t surprise me if they just read it as gross, hence calcs are wrong)

guess it needs an excel setup to crunch the numbers , she’s asked if I can work out how much she can put in for future years to eliminate her high rate tax ;0(

    (face plant)

@slackboy, not sure what she earns and pays into workplace pension.

I get that it will only lower tax on the element of high rate tax, so if she is only just over the threshold then tax relief is lower, but what if she paid on say £5k high rate tax, then would the £1k contribution be refunded 20% of net ie £200 or 20% of Gross (£1250) ie £250

    whatyadoinsucka
    Free Member

so £200 from hmrc is correct?

    in this scenario contributed £1k less £200 = £800 for a £1250 investment, hence 800/1250 = 0.36

    whereas if hmrc had refunded £250, then £750 / £1250 = 0.60 ie 40% tax relief £500 on £1250

rimpact, there is definately a technique, do it on a hot sunny day and leave the tyres to warm up first, i stuck on a DHR with rimpact pro in under 5 mins, a few weeks back i was amazed, two friends have got it to a tee, the trick is to get one side seated, stick in the foam then roll your knuckles over and over the tyre with fingers pushing the bead into the centre of the rim, you can then easily pop over the second bead, i didnt even require levers..

ones before that gave up after broken levers, fingers and sweating for an hour..

word of mouth, the two plumbers i know have always stuck to vailliant / worcester bosch / ideal .

yearly service and they run well,

he’s given up with cheaper brands, as long term they end up costing more when fixing with expensive replacement parts, the better brands have far cheaper parts.

worst, most european ones which have crap snack options.

second worst,  flew from puerto montt to puerto natales (chile) and it was like a bus landing and taking off at least 3 or 4 times on the flight (it had started in santiago), i lost count maybe 5 or 6, but at one landing, their was a pretty fresh looking burnt out plane at the side of the runway..

has dubai airport sorted itself out, i remember the toilet situation was horrible. massive queues and then footprints on toilet seat and used paper in the cubicle corners.. (circa 2008/2010/2012 last time i flew through there

those passport machines are a waste of space, common name, join the queue to see the human,

i still find the odd bellend who refuses to allow you to bypass the machines and then look like they are surprised it doesnt work for you.. still many humans who are happy to joke and smile..

any thoughts on why an investment Trust BRWM is now higher in share price than its NAV, it usually lags behind by 5%-10%

purely expectations that mining is going up, AngloAmerican takeover and some good earning reports ?

did the push up from braithwaite on the hottest day of 2022, horrendous, soul destroying. the descent to whiteless pike was good, for what i could ride, walked down a little cliff i didnt fancy..

riggbeck was good, but a dog to get to the start of the uphill singletrack, flow was good, then an icecream and cold drink from the braithwaite village store,

followed by a warm bath in windermere at ambleside YHA and 8 bottles of magners :0)

go big, is the company planning to float or, is it non tradedable stock options,

do you have access to the balance sheet, presumably its on company house, how many shares currently exist,  likely to exist in the future

“Also be aware that if you list with BIN on the 80% off fees offer and then change the BIN price it cancels the offer. Just had this but got onto them on chat and they refunded the difference” is this a new thing, never noticed that before, but not been on much in the last few years

    clearly competing against vinted,

how much dividend do they pay if its well under £500 (HMRC tax threshold) then transfer them to HL they have a standard  HL fund and share account that has no monthly fees. (dealing fees are £12.95, but regular monthly saver is zero fees if you intend to buy more shares)

remember capital gains is now only £3k in tax year 2024/5, so good to consider tax implications if you have made large increases or expect to in the future.

ps. you generally cant transfer shares into an isa, hence you would sell and buy back which may likely trigger capital gain, HL Stocks and Shares ISA. There’s no charge for holding cash, yearly charge for holding investments is a maximum of 0.45%.
