i feel 25mm is a thing of the past, (ignoring pro’s which isnt real world) 28mm/30mm for 2.4-2.55 tyres

strength is more to do with the materials and construction, my old hope enduro wheels dented on second ride, sure they were 25mm internals..

24mm internals on gravel bike for win..

usually plan a route on os map and download hardcopy, which work without a signal, i hate it when my friends use garmin, as we are forever taking the wrong track

wasn’t the response i got from a calderdale bike shop a few weeks ago, it was,

“no, but i can sell you a new caliper and brake, it’ll work out cheaper”

(sic. magura brake failed and needed a bleed mid ride)

the tallboy is up and running, fox36 140mm front end, pedals lovely uphill , ridiculously fast on tarmac to/from wood,

fast acceleration in woods, feels just like my old v2 5010,

downhill , i’m yet to change my tyres and darent push it too hard, too much coming up

anyone wanting to buy a yeti arc :0)

trying to devise a way to make a day trip to oswestry and rockguardz

ardrock on friday, which i’m sure it would handle well, but thats what the bigger enduro bike is for, think the tallboy will be used on the easier events

hare hills has always been rough, i had a friend live there, my brother parked outside the front door (circa 2000), friend came down and asked where he’d parked, straight outside was the wrong answer. it was half way round the corner with teens attempting to hotwire it..

wouldnt be much difference, is the giant a keeper long term,  i’ve been aiming  to get a lightweight full sus, 140/130front_120 rear and an enduro bike 170mm/160mm

you thought about a gravel bike :0) with front suspension, its always my go to over a hardtail short travel MTB.

was round hebden saturday and wharnie yesterday all i saw was 40% eMTB/40% gravel and the odd mtb

torching a £300k-350k bus for no reason, seems fair game for a custodial sentence, community orders, bound over to keep the peace for the rest

so a few kids taken into care, and an angry mob smash up and roll over a police car and then torch a double decker bus on fire..  good job people are thick, their faces are clear as day on the pictures circulating on social media..

hopefully cps will prosecute and hand down adequate custodial sentences

i’m too late to the party, i got a RockShox Pike Base, 130mm 29er 44mm Boost fork soon to be for sale, off a SC tallboy ridden under 20 miles (west yorks)

    no idea the internals

Thanks @intheborders unfortunately the force axs models are out of my c2w budget , I have 3 hope calipers so will definitely change them. I tend to ride off-road throughout the year so I’ve found standard shimano pads can disintegrate in a ride , the hope brakes have ran on and on

    whatyadoinsucka

right, now the advantages of AXS :0) , both fit c2w budget

    Camino TI Rival1 AXS XPLR

    or

GRX with R/s Rudy / Ti Seatpost

I’ve had front suspension on a gravel before and loved it, so will likely upgrade down the line anyway/..

need more a comparison of which is better (excl. fork

Thanks all, I’ll message hope , and see if changing the seal kit to rubber that can handle dot fluid will work

i have hg and xd hubs so sunrace or sram would work

not sure the ‘surprising’ amount definition :0)

Capital gains is £3k each, is the inheritence in joint names, single name.

PS. if you are buying a new house to do up and then sell your old home, you may have tax implications when selling the old house.. again speak to  a tax accountant for eligible timeframes and rules..

I notice everyone is taking the cost of the vehicle as a sunk cost.

can definitely appreciate variable costs are lower, but how about fixed costs, what’s the breakeven on the difference in purchase price

i like my e4s, big improvement over the 3’s , 180 on rear just wasn’t enough, but felt great since going 200 both ends.

XTR vs SLX    feels better slides rather than tap tap

3 downshifts in one throw, 2 upshift in one throw [hyperglide]

some reviews say for ebikes best to stick to slx/deore

XTR shifter is cheap on merlin £60, feels so much better than deore/slx or XT

derailleur i’d go XT as the sweetspot.  XTR not worth the premium

old model trek slash 29er 170/160, pedals uphill and flat like a trail bike..

    Carbon XL for £2k https://www.tritoncycles.co.uk/mountain-bikes-c1/full-suspension-c16/slash-9-7-full-suspension-trail-mountain-bike-2022-p40338

just get the carbon 9.7 slash, its a great bike. mine is such an upgrade to my XTR/fox36 factory spec’d orbea 150/140.

it’d be another level again with a 38mm stanchion. zebs are cheap on merlin..

iniu or anker, as others have said turn of cell/data when riding if you do not need it, on the moors with no signal, your phone will constantly search for a network killing your battery.

can you go and demo one @Blackflag

santa cruz have a day coming up, ardrock, glentress, bpw and many local bike shops demo/hire bikes etc.

£50-90 for day is a massive saving if you buy the wrong bike, particularly the way the second hand market has gone.

some bikes just feel right, years a go i wanted a bronson, but on riding one i wasnt overly impressed prefered my shorter travel 5010 which was more far more fun to ride.

ps. only been to dyfi the one time and i’d say 3 out of 5 riders had downhill bikes

all that hard work and finished off with sram brakes for the bin..

    lovely looking angles and curves..

bigger bikes take bigger repeated hits, hence you will feel more confident and ride quicker downhill..

shorter travel you need to pick  a better line.

in terms of fork i doubt you have a 38mm stanchion fork on your current bike,  again they are designed to take bigger repeated hits. even my fox rhythm 36 170mm felt a little undergunned at dyfi. although perfectly good for my skillset/speed at enduro events.

choice is always good, just got a tallboy and fitting a 140mm fox36 to it, it’ll be adequate backup for ardrock if my slash fails in the weeks before

going from 150/140 to 170/160 has given me an extra 10-15% time saving at  ardrock / boltby / ardmoors ,

although other factors, weather fitness/ skills arent even

some good tips, PI just delays matters further, been waiting 4 years .

if the other parties insurer can deal direct that would be the ideal, as others have said the third party should have informed their own insurer
