A recent What Mountain Bike crankset shoot out reported them to be quite heavy and not that stiff.

Using the zipped 200gm base layer at the moment. Very, very good :)

Expensive yes but quality is superb and they are built to last :)

Buliding mine to in the living room (Ventana El Ciclon), though taking it really slooooooooowly. Chainstay protector fitted (used bike inner tube). Not rushing at it as remaining parts won’t be in my sweaty palms until after Xmas :)

More investment on the trails, certainly on the red and especially on the black would be more important to me rather than full rrp (and more) bike kit at the trail head and expensive coffee / tea and soggy, oily carrot cake IMHO.

Cool, still £300-£400 cheaper than the UK option :)

Got some of these (600 knee high) as they were suggested to me from one of my forestry contractors:

    http://www.woolpower.se/en/asp/produkter_3.asp

Super toasty and with the terry-knitted construction they feel very good. Wore them walking and biking and they have been great so far.

    Not cheap though :(

Can’t comment on Shimano XT, only ever used Raceface. The Enduro Bearing method with sticky Rock n’ Roll grease has worked wonders for me.

Enduro bearings and rubber / metal top cap.

Look at the Pace BB, they use the Enduro bearings etc.

Been using the Enduro bearings for the past 3 years in 2 bikes, replaced one set in the most used bike. Cant remember when I bought a set of cups, I just keep using the Raceface originals which must be 4 years + old.

£20 a pop for the bearings and top caps.

I bought the BETD removal and installation tool and it works a treat!!

Just don’t put your card details into the BETD site!! Ring them up and place order.

You can get The Ones or Oro Biancos here for silly money:

    http://store.formula-brake.com/items/brake-set-oro-bianco

I have the Oro Biancos and with 203 front / 183 rear I can’t see how you would need much else in terms of power / modulation.

Been running a set for 2 years now with no issues whatsoever. Just ordered another set for the new build too :)

Our little lad (3.5yrs) is not bad, 7pm to bed and up at 6am.

Be careful with taking the mid day nap away. Our little un’ will go for a nap if needs one during day(he decides). Don’t get me wrong, our lives aren’t dictated by it, but if we are at home and he can go to bed for an hour, he does (we won’t let him sleep longer than 1-1.5hrs). Having a nap during the day (IME) has no effect on the night sleep as they do get into a routine of night sleeping ie. 7pm-6am.

I think the big thing is routine and if you can get your kid to use the Gro-clock or stay in his / her room to play until a sensible time then that would be the best plan of attack.

As for our 1.5yr old girl, don’t even get me started…..;)

Was dithering between the Hustler and a Ventana El Ciclon. I decided on the El Ciclon. Waiting on this being shipped out, cant wait! Even with import duty blah, blah the Ventana will work out cheaper thatn a 2010 Hustler:

I have the MXZ 301 boot. Great for the winter, quality product too. The Boa system is great and they really do keep your feet toasty :)

Just bought a pair of the MX165’s too. Quality is right up there, leather uppers, vibram sole etc. A great trail / xc shoe.

I may be wrong but that looks like Tollymore / Donard. Am I right? I moved to the ‘mainland’ 5 years ago but as soon as I started watching that video I thought it looked familiar.

Nice video by the way, looks too dry for the Mournes though ;)

    Thanks StuE.

What about weight? 8 pound with the air shock I believe. Maybe too much for all day rides? What does your complete bike come in at on the scales?

No doubt knitted with dwarf atric sheep wool by a albino Inuit virgin whilst sitting on the lap of a homophobic gay polar bear.

same as much UK softwood is not high quality

    ??

Because it is very fast growing due to long daylight hours in summer it is less dense thant eh same tree grown where summer daylight is shorter

Fast growing = Sitka spruce which is originally from the West Coast of America / Canada, which likes moist climates. Sitka was chosen for it’s fast growth, cleanliness of timber and durability for sawmilling. Fibre length and colour was also good for pulpwood purposes.

The UK softwood market has never been so bouyant, whether that is construction grade timber (c16), palletwood, fencing, or small roundwood. Primarily due to current interest rates hence lack of imports (believe me quality is not the reason why there is so many imports, it simply comes down to price and the fact that the UK cannot grow enough timber to satisfy it’s own demand), and the general demand from the processors (sawmillers, panelboard producers and the ever emerging energywood sector) The United Kingdom can produce very, very good quality conifer crops not only for the return to client but for the processors also.

IMO the ever emerging demand from commercial energywood users and hence product deplacement in the market are by far a greater threat to the UK forests than the risk of a professional forest management company taking control of a state forest…..For which they will do a very fine job of btw ;)

The FC are disposing of bloacks of forest which are deemed to be not suitable for their core aims and objectives. In reality and to keep thisngs basic what this means is:

    1) Less accessible and / or remote blocks of predominantly commercial mixed conifer species (read NOT native broadleave areas / SSSI etc) which provide little social, amenity and / or environmental benefits will be sold off. These blocks will be still be managed by the private owner in accordance to FC guidelines, certainly in respect of felling and replanting…….Its the law!

    2) Revenue generated from these sales will be directed into land purchase for new planting in and around towns, or more favourable areas where the enviro / social / eco benefits will be higher.

Classic recent example: FC Dollar Block / Stobo block etc in the Tweed Valley, Scottish Borders. Which were sold last year to private investors. this year FC buy new ground which bolts onto Glentress to create a ‘model forest’.

I can only comment on the Border Terrier As I;ve had one for the past 5yrs (Kona…). He’s is my workmate, biking buddy, TV slouch buddy and general bendy-play thing for Rowan(3.5 yr old boy) and Chloe (1.5 yr old girl). Generally they have very good tempraments (as has Kona) although I’ve seen some real crouchy buggers (especially bitches…no pun intended). Btw they are terriers, so they will NOT listen to you and they WILL do what they want ;)
