Point taken on the RL brake hose, not sure I can bring myself to have to bleed them up again though….

Not tried it yet, bottle only just turned up this morning. Will post my findings soon. I should be pretty well placed to give it a good test as nearly all my riding is on the Yorkshire moors which are famous for their sandy gritty mud stuff.

Finish line green was struggling to manage one ride.

Knew that would get spotted! Chains getting a proper clean before I use Squirt on them….ooer

I'm 5,9 (29" leg) and find my medium SJ FSR a perfect fit. Mines an 08 model which has the same frame design as 09.

They are based just down the road from me, I found them when I had a minor bump when we had the snow. I was looking for paintless dent repair.

If you are keen on starting up with a smart repair business it maybe worth looking at these guys? Seem pretty reasonable costs. Not used them myself but it's another option.

Fantastic first forum ride, cracking weather, route and company.

My brothers first job when we got back (after a beer) was ordering replacement wheels from Merlin. Rear hub had almost seized by the time we got back to the car park 8O

Can’t guarantee it but you should do, its a pretty quiet train at that time of night. Might be best to split? 2 bikes at one end/door, the other at the other end if that makes sense.

Should be there, will also try and get my brother to tag along. Look forward to meeting you guys (& girls)

It was me that started that thread. Received the RL 853 yesterday. Can’t wait to get it built up. Really nice finish on the frame and spot on 4 1/4 Lb which is pretty light for a steel frame.

Not riden it yet but think it should be pretty special.

Seth, Yeah got the frame faced. Merlin did it for free.

Its a pretty good colour tbh quite bright, not old man green but not too bright. On my laptop screen it’s almost the same colour as the Single track green headers to the right of this message “buy stuff” etc

Deft – Login to your account and look at “Transaction History” they charge you £69 then credit back £30. Unless you didn’t use the £30 off code.

Some people spout some crap, paclite is a current fabric/product. Proshell is much better but you find one for £40.

Jacket life is actually extended by cleaning with goretex, use of nikwax/grangers treatments are a must. Storing long term in the stuff sack is not advised.

Cheers for the input so far guys. FSA headset on the list.

Are FSA & Truvativ chainsets that much worse than Shimano they’re not worth considering? Seems little in weight difference.

I’m lucky enough to have access to the in-laws cottage about 10k from Domfront 8) very nice bit of France as mentioned some good biking. I bought the map pack from bagnoles de l’orne on my last visit. If you decide thats the area you’ll be visiting I’d be happy to scan you some of the route cards.

Flatback/Mark – Do you have any good routes in the area you can share with me? I’m heading back in 6 weeks and would like to go armed with some ideas. Also if you don’t have the route pack from bagnoles let me know and I can give you more details.

Feel free to email if you prefer. stuart_home AT hotmail DOT com

    Cheers Stuart
