I have had a lot of problems with tight calves and general aches and pains from running, two solutions (both involve more time that you might not have to invest but hey ho)

    – Yoga,I started doing Ashtanga yoga which is pretty hard work but great for introducing stretching but also helps all round strength a lot as well
    – Swimming, really helps to loosen off the muscles, before work is good if you can find the time

Both of the above I basically got to the point of having to do otherwise I’m sure I couldn’t run now/would be crippled later in life. Both I was rubbish at/found very hard work/boring and first but now I enjoy both, stick with it.

I used run 5 miles and be unable to do any more running at all for over a week due to tight calves. Did a 16miles trail run last weekend and had no stiffness in calves the day after – results dont lie!

Diane, any idea the best way about getting permission to do such a thing? Shopping centres sometimes stop people collecting for charity I think?

Alas unless you are still up at 1am which is a suggested finishing time I may not be able to join you for a beer! Although I’m sure the first beer after that lot will taste pretty sweet…

Great event, well organised, dibber system worked well, stage 2 guy was just telling everyone to dib in on the post I think, it was said before the event to everyone at registration that you either dib an the post or head to a guy who will dib you in, simples. Although its probably not the most accurate system, I really think the seconds difference between dibbing speed meant nowt to 99% of the riders, smiles all wrong from what I saw. And at the end of the day its the same system for everyone, I’d even argue its best to just have a post with the thing stuck to it alone, that way no complaints about speed of marshall dibbing?

    MORE PLEASE TWAS MINT!

Fair play to stick your neck out on the mega avalanche style format, pretty unique in the UK (apart from the glencoe thing?). I guess you must have a course route already laid out? Any map available?

    cheers

The macdonald hotel currently has some good discounts on rooms. Family room £78 bnb. Snapped that bad boy up, way too early in the year for camping!

Finally got round to sorting this out, went for the tape and valve option in the end with high roller 2.35 singleply kevlar tyre.

Too tall, basically it doesnt work well at all. Just unstoppable amount of bubbling from the rim even when soaped up and lots of sealant sloshing around. Perhaps it would work ok with a tubeless tyre. Will try will the rim strips next…

I recently went 1×10 speed with mostly slx and an xt shifter (32tooth up front), one thing I would say is that the slx cassette is very heavy, probably not that far off the 12-36 9 speed. Would recommend it though, all the gears you are likely to need for general riding

Toons, Yeh was me on flickr, lots of cool pics but saw the muddy bog on one of the pics and reminded me to send out the word (meant to send something round after last time I was up).

Quirrel, try rothbury, very good riding :)

Not sure on whats happening at Simonside, whoever it is would be best to engage with the FC early though to make sure its all by the book etc. Generally will probably do more trail centre stuff over winter, lakes/peaks rocky stuff is also a good start as doesnt get as boggy in those parts.

Nope not been up there, just went for a spin a couple of weeks ago and as soon as I realised I’d make things worse I packed it in. Spread the word if you know others that ride there and dont come on here etc.

I was in the overflow camping which was fine, pretty flat field and they provided water. I just went across to the kielder campsite for a shower.

I’m treating myself to the night before at the pheasant this year though as I’ll need the sleep with the challenge thats planned, kayaking the lake then running the kielder marathon straight after the K100!

as njee says, just to make things easier, I could just sell them and get the right one’s I suppose but was just trying to avoid the faff/save some money. Also there’s quite a few threads like this http://www.singletrackworld.com/forum/topic/why-wont-my-stans-valve-stems-seal-in-my-stans-rims that put me off just the tape as well

I run rim strips on my 355 wheels and they work really well so just think they are more reliable and easier to seal with strips, plus I’ve bought them now anyways…

Paul Clavely triathlon looks ridiculous but its over more than one day so doesnt count :?

Kicked off killer kielder training with a bang yesterday ran the lot without walking at any point which was horrible at times, managed to finish in 4.33 though :) but in work today :(

Been offered a last minute place to do the kielder marathon on sundayby the calvert trust, tempting but doing the bike place octoberfest at kielder tomorrow. Will have to make a last min decision but since the great north run last year I’ve only run a max of 5 miles! Will find out either way tommorrow!

Yes thats a risk I suppose, I have thought about that and would do the k100 with a mate who I’ve recruited who’s handy on the mechanical front.

Could possibly carry a few more spares than normal or arrange for them to be at strategic points maybe?

we're staying in prcanj just by kotor between 18th and 25th this month. Looks like you aren't that far away. I've emailed a couple of guiding places asking about options. I'd be wanting to do some technical singletrack riding but will only be able to do a day or two's riding so would probably want a guide to get the best out it.

Anybody used alligator pads, seem very great value at £5 a pair?
