IMO the car plug style noodle things are far inferior to the dynaplug setup which although expensive work. Particularly in high pressure tyres I have found the noodle ones don’t stay in very well.
If you want cheap dynaplug refills you could always re-use old ones like this guy, though not sure anyone could be arsed with that!
wenanwhereFree MemberI just lost my dynaplug racer but have plugs left. I thought about slotting them in to some other inserting device. It seems like they will fit in an old tubeless valve ok. Should give enough purchase to push through. I guess someone could measure the dimensions of the metal inserting tube and just find something same size and like stick a cork on the end or something. Not as neat but equally not £30?
wenanwhereFree MemberKnocked out the bearings from the sleeve easy enough actually not visible sleeve damage. One side is a standard Gxp sized bearing that I actually had a load of anyway but the other is a an odd size 37x24x8 which is confirmed when you looked at pf92 bearing sizes but can’t seem to find anywhere to buy that particular sized bearing. 37x24x7 are easy to get hold of but can I just use a 1mm spacer or something or will it not make any difference?
wenanwhereFree Memberthanks all, will buy a new whole sleeve from hope I think so I can replace the bearings, I’ll wear through quite a lot so will be worth it in long run
wenanwhereFree MemberGood stuff: event setup, atmosphere on course, marshalls, beer shortcut (so long as you aren’t a keen racer who sees it as a chance to tap half a sip and use it as a shortcut!)
For next year: no foam please, less grassy lumpy fields (that would turn to a horror show if it rained), live timing, some commentary in the pits during the race, bigger jumps, run the event on a Saturday and people more likely to stick around after for prizes/food/beer etc
I saw sold out during the week, was it actually sold out or the entries were just closed out of interest?
Thanks to singletrack for putting this on and nice to meet fellow Bury bred Ross over a beer whilst I avoided a final lap in the paddock of waiting shame!
wenanwhereFree MemberHello folks. I’ll have one in the Bristol Bath area I’ll be hiring out in the next couple of weeks drop me an email if you’re interested.
wenanwhereFree MemberThe waypoints dont show on the overall map but I’m sure in the past I’ve been able to see a list on one of the screens with the various distances to waypoints on the route listed
wenanwhereFree MemberWent for the first time last night, amazing trails, chapeau to the builders!
wenanwhereFree MemberBump! Also looking for some routes, anyone got a gpx they can email me of something around 20miles?
wenanwhereFree MemberYes most of the time will just run off the car but at races its often handy to have the option of self power. Plus I want to use it in my shed as well so dual purpose.
wenanwhereFree MemberThis kind of thing? http://www.halfords.com/workshop-tools/garage-equipment/jump-leads/phaze-4-in-1-jump-starter?cm_mmc=Google+PLA-_-Garage+Equipment-_-Jump+Leads-_-594335&_$ja=tsid:60494%7Ccgn:GoogleShopping%7Ckw:594335&istCompanyId=b8708c57-7a02-4cf6-b2c0-dc36b54a327e&istItemId=xlqiatqlx&istBid=tzti&_$ja=tsid:35522|cid:344535484|agid:25437357364|tid:aud-80976661309:pla-211143731764|crid:89797547524|nw:g|rnd:4906992892645071288|dvc:c|adp:1o3&gclid=Cj0KEQjwzZe8BRDguN3cmOr4_dgBEiQAijjVFmtoSUjJBqIenoviqGPv2vaXx5F5UutAQNPGiNNVGecaAkS28P8HAQ
wenanwhereFree MemberPuddings, excellent idea! Which pack did you use? Does it give the washer enough beans to work same as off a car?
wenanwhereFree MemberCurrently pishing down but been nice all afternoon here. Ground WAS dry…
wenanwhereFree MemberFirst bit of advice I would offer is to try out what works for you as everyone is different. You’ve got a bit of time for some big rides before the event. I wrote a few things here from my experiences http://e3coach.com/blog/107-going-long take everything you read from others with a pinch of salt (pah) but don’t do anything crazily different if you can help it before or during a big race.
wenanwhereFree MemberYes it doesn’t slide through the cable guide and has become a bit bent as a result
wenanwhereFree MemberI wouldn’t describe the rocket rons as having a strong sidewall even in the snakeskin variety
wenanwhereFree MemberYes this:

CurtiswenanwhereFree MemberAll the info about the setup at Thrunton has been on the trailbuilders website for years along with contact details to find out more if anyone was in doubt. Also amazing how many rumours and mis-quotes float around e.g. ‘they are ripping out Pink Panther’ which is not the case. You will find the trail builders a cracking bunch, happy to show anyone around and a group that have put in a lot of time and effort behind the scenes building and maintaining a strong relationship with the FC and Landowner. They have also worked hard to engage with other local riding groups and it looks like there has been some great input recently from CHR and others as a result, happy days.
From the website:
‘We have a signed agreement with the FC for building and maintaining the trails in Thrunton Woods, and develop them with the objective of keeping them as natural as possible.
We are totally self funded as a group, with some help from the Forestry Commission for materials and tools. The types of trails tend to be towards the technical cross country style.
The group is very low key, we keep bureaucracy to a minimum and build trails that we enjoy to ride.’
wenanwhereFree MemberJust to throw something else in the mix…the star rating system. I’d be interested to see the average star given out as everything seems to be about 4/5. When was the last time you saw 2 stars? Should it not be proportional to some extent because most mtb products these days tend to work so comparing x to y would be more helpful than the generic you’re safe to buy it ratings we tend to see imo? Seeing some products get crap reviews would give me more confidence in reviewers. Probably unlikely due to the difficult position of mags needing advertising revenue so probably not wanting to piss off potential advertisers. I suspect crap products just might not get reviewed as a result? Also did the reviewer get the product for free or is it obvious they did etc is something worth noting in the footnote? Agree on comments re demo days if you can get to one.
wenanwhereFree MemberSorry for slow reply.
Yes by tracking app mean someone can see where I am.
Reason to ask if it was possible to do with phone signal rather the gprs or 3g etc was in case of being in remote areas
wenanwhereFree MemberSorry should have titled this web hosting company. Yes was with 1&1 but that deal is only thus for the first two years.
wenanwhereFree MemberSo tested Palmers Butter for a few rides, seems pretty good. I added a few drops of tea tree oil to give it a bit of antiseptic benefits as well. I’d still used branded stuff for long races etc.
wenanwhereFree MemberYeh clearly it’s going to be mega tough but then other people would have completed it in winter otherwise…
wenanwhereFree MemberSorry should have said I wouldn’t want the misery of ‘alpine’ style unsupported so would have access to hot tea/from the support vehicle
wenanwhereFree MemberUdder cream, interesting, is that where udderly smooth started out?!
wenanwhereFree MemberRiding for around 15 hours per week then racing up to 24 hours. I would still use branded products that I am happy with like chapeau/assos for long races its just to keep my undercarriage in decent nick on the training rides.
I’ve heard of the merino option before but I know for a fact that I can be comfy down there and stay rot free using chamois cream so keen to stick to what I know. Just trying to keep the cost down throughout the year that’s all.
wenanwhereFree MemberThanks all, went to savers and got some palmers stuff thanks wilburt, got the branded stuff but there was also a bit tub going for £1 which is probably same stuff. Looks like quite a good consistency, that and sprinkled a few drops of tea tree oil in will see how I get on.
Travis, purely lots of miles ridden each week then doing super long races. Saddle/seat setup is perfectly comfortable but I can be prone to skin infections down there so not worth taking any risks. Plus is just more comfy for me with rather than without.
Not sure about keith’s recipe in that I don’t think vaseline washes out that well.
If this stuff doesn’t work might try some more sophisticated options. I will buy some proper stuff for long races as well.
wenanwhereFree MemberWanted something to include the antiseptic qualities of tea tree as helps avoid saddle rash infections
wenanwhereFree MemberWow thanks everyone for being awesome! Been in touch with tang and sorted a box out. Andy thanks for the kind offer but we leave 26th September so clashes I think so still could do with a wheels one ideally
wenanwhereFree MemberHave looked at the skateboard option but we’re limited on weight as using bike bags as our main luggage otherwise its £110 each to take them separately. Skateboards would add a few kg I reckon
wenanwhereFree Membercheers all, seems like a gap in the market for a uk producer? A lot of the ones on ebay say uk seller but they are china based, cheeky. Might try the rockbros ones
wenanwhereFree Membersuperhooper have you ordered any others instead? The one from america could be pricey with shipping I guess
wenanwhereFree MemberYes for a trek superfly. Looking in to it a bit more I assume its the GXP version not the bb30 I’d need for the trek?
wenanwhereFree MemberThis in itself would probably do the job so would have to ditch the quantocks idea though

Not sure if the chap actually rode it though or whether he just plotted it
