Behind The Scenes: Getting The Shot

All sports have a big carbon footprint. F1 just seems to get more stick because the cars are, well cars. Admittedly there is a lot that they could do regarding race scheduling and the amount of freight thats carried to races.
Sports like football have big carbon footprints but its mostly not visible. Things like fan attendance (driving to races) watching tv’s, powering and heating stadiums over the scale of the number of football matches and their frequency creates a large carbon footprint.
I don’t have facts or figures to hand, but I read a paper on the subject a while back (honest). Makes this post a bit pointless, but hey. I have to attempt to defend the sport I love :p
weirdnumberFree MemberRent and Bills excluding food and travel to work is between 60-70% of my take home pay 🙁 I don’t have a very highly paid job and I can’t even get full time hours at the moment.
Still I’m reasonable happy which everyone tells me is what matters. Right?
Still, I’m not entirely convinced, I’m pretty sure more money would make me a little happier.weirdnumberFree MemberI saw it at the cinema and was thoroughly engrossed and saddend. I hadn’t really followed F1 when he was driving (I was 9 when he died) but I still remember the news reports.

Also I was using the site last night around midnight and although being a little slow it was working fine.*EDIT* the number would be helpful right? (0) 20 8501 2582 open at 10am
weirdnumberFree MemberI would be happy to donate but just like I can’t give blood I don’t think I can donate organs either as I had cancer in my teens.
weirdnumberFree MemberRepliGo Reader is the best PDF reader in my opinion. IIRC its not free though.
weirdnumberFree MemberDesire S is essentially the same as the Desire but with more application storage capacity. Current top smart phones are HTC Sensation and Samsung Galaxy S II.
The £10 Sim Only as mentioned above on T-Mobile is great. Its a 12 month commitment but you can upgrade within the 12 months to a longer contract including a handset if you need to. The internet booster is 500Mb but its a fair usage limit not a cap so there are no run on rates.
Orange will do something similar especially if you say you are looking at a deal like that.
As for Orange and T-Mobile network sharing, its 2G only at the moment and not seamless but 3G sharing is rolling out this month.Oh and stay away from Windows Phone 7. Its still poor in comparison to IOS and Android.
weirdnumberFree MemberYeah sorry flyingmonkeycorps you are right, I got my names mixed up. Shouldn’t post before I have finished breakfast.
I thought both Kirkman and Darabont had left the show? I haven’t checked news on the show in a good few months, I guess I should have a quick double check.weirdnumberFree MemberI have overpaid the last two years running and had a cheque from HMRC. Only £120 mind, but still nice. Even if its money I have already paid them.
weirdnumberFree MemberIm a fan of the graphic novel series and I enjoyed the first series of The Walking Dead and didnt mind that it strayed from the graphic novel (tv shows have to really).
As for the second series, Im looking forward to it but also a bit aprehensive since pretty much all the writers from the first series including Frank Darabont (who writes the graphic novels) were fired by AMC.
Fingers crossed it will still be good though.weirdnumberFree MemberLots of good books suggested, not sure how they would play with a 16 year old girl.
The Master and Margarita for example is a wonderful book, but slightly dense for a 16 year old in my opinion.
I would second A Madness of Angels, its excellent and would be very enjoyable for a teenage girl I would have thought.
Winters Bone is excellent if perhaps a little short. I gather it was recently made into a film as well.
If she is interested in Sci-Fi then the Culture series by Iain M Banks is excellent with the standouts being Excession, The Player of Games and Use of Weapons. The latter two having quite dark moments.
Another Sci-Fi great is The Forever War. Very dark and also very funny, its very much a war story first and Sci-fi second.weirdnumberFree MemberMy Dad uses an Oregon Scientific weather station which wirelessly logs rain, wind, pressure, temp, humidity etc. it has its own interface and also logs the data onto his computer.
He seems pretty happy with it, and built his own Stevenson screen as well as spending ages getting it running on a Linux box. He has had it ages now so I imagine software support is much improved now.weirdnumberFree MemberI wear a pair of thin running gloves which I use as inner for my cheap soft shell jobbies. They work well enough. Not water proof though, and keeping track of two pairs of gloves and trying not to leave them on a bus is a pita 😐
weirdnumberFree MemberPlaying around with google maps I can see that you can convert a .gpx file to a .kml using http://www.gpsvisualizer.com/convert_input and then import that into My Maps on Google Maps. Navigating using Google Maps kind of sucks though.
weirdnumberFree MemberHmm interesting, does it not have options for update interval or update distance? Perhaps it is sleeping the GPS for some reason.
A lot of sites say its great, I have never used it though. Like you I am after something I can plot routes on before hand as well as track stuff.weirdnumberFree MemberWell winter in Manchester is the same as summer, except sometimes the rain is frozen so nothing really.
weirdnumberFree MemberGoogle MyTracks (its free) will record routes and allow you to export them as well. You can’t preplan routes from what I can see.
As for losing GPS signal, that’s more down to the nature of GPS rather than the app, GPS works poorly in very steep valleys or heavily wooded areas since it needs line of sight. Most modern GPS devices use flashy prediction and calculation methods in cities to deal with the city canyon effect. Unfortunately road snapping and prediction doesn’t apply where there are no roads so there can be minor inaccuracies when in the wilds.weirdnumberFree MemberGillette Mach 3 or Wilkinson Sword quattro. I got fed up buying the wrong blades because I couldn’t remember which razor I had I just bought the one I didn’t have.
To be kind to my skin I found shaving in the shower and using Bulldog shave gel the best solution for me, king of shaves gel (blue one) is OK as well.
If you are cutting yourself try to not to worry about cutting yourself and hold your face in a way that the skin you are shaving is taught.weirdnumberFree MemberLauncherPro to replace HTC Sense, Samsung Touchwiz, Moto Blur, standard android launcher etc.
ReadItLater for saving stuff to read when I have more time.
Twicca – best twitter app in my opinion.
Work Out Trainer to instill a little discipline to my mornings.
Pulse for my RSS feeds.
Giving OS Atlas a test as well but it is a little frustrating with not much screen real estate.A few snazzy widgets to get my homescreen looking nice and a bunch (100+) of games.
weirdnumberFree MemberThe skeptics guide to the universe is enjoyable if you like science and skepticism. The last few eps were live shows so the audio quality was a bit poor though.
Kermode and Mayo’s film review podcast, not sure if that was the one you mean in your post.
If you like computer games then check out the Giant Bombcast.
Also the Guardian science podcast, but specifically the one about the sounds of the shuttle launch from 12th July. The rest are hit and miss and I find one of the presenters extremely annoying
