Lot of people in the area! I hadn’t realised. I was at Roman Lakes a few weeks back and got attacked by a goose which then chewed on my tyre while holding my bike hostage for 20 mins.

Sadly I will be working that weekend as it’s going to be a busy one for retail.

Basic web browsing should work with a basic data package. Certain apps and things like BBM and the instant email service won’t function without it.
A monthly plan would usually include it as an additional chargeable service and the sales person should make this clear for obvious reasons. No mobile phone sales person that knows their job would sell a Blackberry without the service, at least not unless they explicitly explained what it was and the customer was clear what they were and weren’t taking.
Most networks offer a PAYG booster if you are on a PAYG plan, usually £5 per month, some include reasonable amounts of data, some need additional data to be purchased as well.
T-Mobile for example charge £5 for a month on PAYG including 500mb of data (FUP with no run rates) or £20 for 6 months.
3 Charge £5 as well for a month and you get 1Gb of data AFAIK.

If they have connected it prior to it being processed through the tills then they will need to submit a cancellation request which is quite a formal process with P4U I believe, as most likely that store will end up having a couple of hundred pounds charged to its P&L because its a cancellation rather than you just deciding not to sign up.
It’s likely that it will take a couple of days.

As scummy as P4U generally are, in a situation like yours where their is no ambiguity they can’t do anything other than cancel it.
There is no your word against theirs situation. You didn’t sign, you didn’t take the product.

Don’t fret about it, but do follow up on Wednesday. You might also get a first bill which you can ignore as this will probably have already been printed and posted.

Haha! I used to work in Cheetham Hill, I was late once because I had to take a detour due to a shooting.
There is a nice kebab shop just on Cheetham Hill road but thats about it. Oh and some very ropey protistutes that I would most definately avoid.
The scenary is ok, you have the massive wall of HMP Strangeways, some markets, lesser striped and greater hooded kids. Just remember not to feed them.

I write to my Granny (she live in South Africa) and she writes back on those blue telegram things that you fold up. She always makes the most of the space available as though blue telegram things are being rationed.
Also she always does a little doodle next to the bit where you write the address.
I love seeing them on my doormat when I get home.

I used to have this problem with an early custom ROM on my Desire, the ROM I was using was updated and I never had the problem again, nor have I on any of the subsequent Android handsets I have used.
IIRC correctly it was something to do with WiFi sleep on the handset. It’s certainly not a common problem that I see with Android handsets where I work, and I don’t know an easy fix. Sorry.

With a larger hard drive you can install games meaning the DVD drive gets worked less and the console can be quite a bit quieter. Also if you want to download games from the market or additional content for games then you will want the larger hard drive. Its a shame Microsoft charge to much for hard drives.

Cool, cheers guys. I work shifts so tend to ride during the week as I normally end up working weekends. Will definitely see if I can hook up with local groups though 🙂

Glad I saw this thread, I have recently moved to Stockport from Cambridge and have pootled around the Marple area. Its nice to have some hills now 🙂 I’m going to pick up that peaks book and do some riding at the end of November when I have some time off work.

Your blackberry has no option to save numbers to the sim. Your network providers shop or an apple store will have a data transfer tool. Otherwise you will have to look at other sync options mentioned above.

No! Li-Ion batteries found in modern phones are best looked after by not completely discharging them.

I watched this and was thinking back to how teachers shape our lives.
I still every now and then when I am day dreaming think back to one teacher who actively went out of her way to make my life a misery. She was a vindictive **** and if I knew then what I know now I would have said something to someone.
On the flipside I also remember my form tutor who was always there for me and it brings a tear to my eye when I think of how commited to his students he was 🙂

Few restaurant related ones in this thread… I always order a drink when I am seated but ask for it to be brought with with my food. Most waiters forget, those that don’t get a larger tip.

Kiska (key-skah) its Russian for pussy cat, or something.
Ikati (ee-car-tee I believe) – Zulu for cat.
Neil (neh-koh) – Japanese for cat.
hmm bit of a theme, I just called my cats Nic and Tilly (their full names are somewhat longer)

Stargate Universe – not lame like the other stargate stuff is. Sadly was cancelled after two seasons but very enjoyable sci-fi.
Spartacus Blood and sand – lots of blood and nudity stuff.
The Unit – special forces shooty stuff.
The shield – corrupt cop gritty action stuff
The Chicago Code – slick cop show that isn’t really a procedural.
Dexter – serial killer blood and (occasional) nudity with lots of profanity stuff.

I have the Mint Sauce strip where death is controlling him on a scalextric track through the forest on the back of my old bedroom door. When I stay at my parents and use the room, I see it and always smile thinking back to my teen years. 🙂

I read the book a few years back and some of the scenes are still very vivid in my mind. I get flashbacks randomly that take me back to my imagination when I was reading the book. Not sure I could face the film but I have heard it is excellent.

Li-Ion batteries should be prevented from fully discharging if possible. Always discharging fully is not good for battery care and is a common misconception.
The simple fact is that smartphones have poor battery life relative to older phones of a few years ago. Basically the same battery tech but with higher demands (large displays, powerful processors, 3G, wifi, GPS) and the wildfire has a rather small capacity battery at 1300 mAh.

If you want to care for your battery then turn your device off when charging to allow it to reach the correct voltage threshold, only partially charge before usage. The latter increases battery longevity but means usage time between charges is shorter so is of little help for most people.
Turning off unused radios is the easiest thing to do (wifi, Bluetooth, GPS) or disabling background data usage. Unfortunately to make the most of your phone you probably want background data on.
I imagine this post has done little to assist you in your quest for longer battery life 🙁

    Few music ones there.
The Bleep.com podcast is good for new electronic music.
Depends where your interests lie, Kermode and Mayo’s film review podcast is good if you are interested in film reviews.
If you like computer games then the Giant Bombcast is fantastic.
I enjoy the Skeptics Guide as well, and also listen to The Space Show. It can be dull if you aren’t interested in American space policy, although some episodes are more general about the feasibility of missions to mars and such.

Best free childcare you can get at a weekend

haha 🙂 my dad used to drop me off at rugby on a Sunday and would always be upwards of an hour late picking me up. I loved it and used the time to really become a great rugby player until a fairly distressing run of injuries.
bellowing dads were the norm and were dads business, on the pitch they were always out of mind.

I had lymphoma when I was 16 and had 18 months chemo and 6 months radiotherapy. It would do my head in when people would tell me to keep fighting. All I did was feel like crap and have needles stuck in me.
Towards the end I understood what they were saying if maybe they weren’t really sure what exactly they meant. It took some real willpower sometimes to attend 6th form and get out of bed when I was in massive pain, had no energy, couldn’t play all the sports I used to (rugby, squash, cricket) and just really wanted to walk in front of a bus to make life easy for me and (in my mind) others. To me that’s what it meant to keep fighting. Not fighting the disease, but fighting to desire to sack it all in.

I have never booked my bike on, just used politeness and a smile. I just ask a platform guard where I should put my bike, usually its a specific carriage that has a bike rack and sometimes its a whole carriage devoted to luggage. If the latter then make sure you are on the ball at your station so the train doesn’t leave before you have retrieved it.

I like my job because of the people I work with. The low pay, pressure to hit targets and the depressing working environment do their best to make me hate it.

In theory yes. Blowing removes the hot air around your food and replaces it with cooler air which allows heat to transfer away from your food. Its probably a tiny effect though.

Battery life a high priority on a smartphone 😐
I have a Galaxy S II and bought an Anker 1900 mah battery for it off amazon and although battery life is much improved its still no Nokia 1100…
Sensation or Galaxy S II and you are on to a winner, I prefer the GSII though (hence why I got one).

It is worth getting one of the dual core top end phones. The differences are noticeable in real world usage especially when it comes to flash video and web page rendering.
I owned a Desire (very similar spec to desire s) and moved to a Galaxy S II and was very impressed with how much better it ran.
The Motorola Droid Razr looks interesting but no doubt will have the rubbish Moto Blur running on top, and the Nexus Prime could be interesting but I have read rumours saying the spec will be incredible and some saying it will be nothing better than the GS II. Will have to wait and see I guess.

You can get a Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini-Pro for around about £15 on T-Mobile and other networks I would imagine. Its has a slide out keyboard with a capacitive touchscreen, is running Gingerbread which is the current release of Android (for handsets anyway) and has an up to date spec (1Ghz processor) if not top of the range. The SE UI is pretty snazzy as well.
It’s quite small though, which is good or bad depending on preference.
The new range of Sony Ericsson handsets are much better then they were even 18 months ago and they have come out of their period of poor quality and unreliability so are worth looking at again.

The cached maps in Google Maps are fine for cities, I used them in Amsterdam to avoid data charges since you can use the phone in ‘Airplane’ mode with GPS on.
For off road stuff they are a bit crap, Google Maps doesn’t show footpaths so you are better off with one of the OS Apps knocking about.

Physics is to blame. Its known as High Altitude Flatus Expulsion. The higher differential in pressure between your insides and the external pressure gives you the urge to expel the gas. Its often experienced by climbers as mentioned.
