Here’s my 2003 TinBred still going strong toured on it, towed a kiddy trailer with it, raced XC, 6 hr, 10hr and 24 hours Enduro on it. Currently in 2×9 guise but soon to go back to 3×9

Big bucket of soapy water, whisk it up and then using a brush lubricate the bead of the tyre with the suds then pump like crazy

On a road bike your generally more static and in one position than you are when your on a mountain bike. This means that if your postion is not spot on it can become very uncomfortable and cause various pains etc.

There are many things that can effect your position, stem length, saddle position, cleat postion the list goes on.

My advice would be get a bike fit or do you own, think Bike Radar did an online article about doing this a while back

    Not going this year 🙁

Think there is a charge for camping that has to be paid for through the website. But if your in a camper van it should be easy enough to find a spot either at the campsite in Glen Nevis or Loch Linnhe caravan park where I usually stay in a lodge.

    Good luck and enjoy

Going as part of a tour package with a group of mates for my birthday which was in January. I’m happy with the ‘version’ chosen.

This is the Official Rapha/ASO event. Closed roads, trench included and a lap of the velodrome. The one run in June is run every two years and is the full route the pros ride so will be so much better 😕

    To answer the specfic questions you asked;

    1. Can you convert a double to a triple (New cranks or new shifter/derailier/cranks)

    – you will need to buy a new chainset, shifter and front mech

    2. What is “compact”. I guess it’s just smaller chainrings, i.e. You can convert to/from compact by buying new chainrings

    – your right compact is a smallet of chainrings, you cannot convert a ‘normal’ chainset to a complact and visa versa. A compact chainset with two rings will give you enough gears to get up hills without using a triple

    3. Will a 500 quid Allez wheels be able to take my ‘bulk’

-Yes, depandant on how ‘big’ your are and how inclined on riding through and not round pot holes you are

    4. Is there anything as cheap that is super strong (not light)

-Most of the major manufacturers will do decent bikes for that money, Ribble training/winter bikes are generally good value and sturdy (not sure how much though), theres always second hand.

    5. Will this end up being a waste of cash?

    -Definatlety not,

Hoping someone’s thought that not everyone can be at a PC tomorrow lunch to enter on line and that there are still solo places for those posting a entry tomorrow.

Some interesting points made, just want to be clear I wasn’t suggesting my tinbred was retro although it is in my opinion a classic

Thanks for the feedback after looking over the previous post there doesn’t seem that much advantage so I’ll probably stick with my 26″ setup.

    What type you after?

There are DVD like the Chris Carmichael DVD’s good and effective workouts but boring to watch as it’s very much like a spin session but more structured towards cyclists.

There are also various other DVDs’ that are video’s of actual rides and you vary your work rates from on screen prompts relating to cadence and percieved effort.

There is also the Sufferfest downloads, very good workouts based on actual race video footage, on screen prompts tell you what to do and when and there’s a bit of humour thrown in to motivate you.

Personally, I use a combination of the Carmichael DVD’s and Sufferfest (as well as Real Life Video’s on my imagic, which is a different ball game)

Think SRAM cassettes work with Shimano set ups so seems likely that an SRAM mech will work with a Shimano cassette

Malucene is fantastic, happy happy memories. Camping Le Bosquet is great campsite and they have a few caravans for rent as well.

It s really sad that you feel the need to take time away or even leave the forum, surely sense would dictate that the offenders should be the ones being given the boot.
