Luckily I have a relative that works in the mapping section for the water company and they are looking into it.

House has been there about 6 years, before that it was farmland and before that there was a coal mine very close.

Not going back in as it’s too risky lifting the cover on my own, particularly getting it back on. It almost fell down the hole a couple of times getting it lined back up.

These is a sewage/stormwater overflow outlet about 200M away. Maybe it goes there. Could always throw a rubber duck down then see if it pops out!

Dropped a rock down and it sounded concrete at the bottom too.

There were some mines in the area a long time ago, maybe a vent?

Those manhole covers are heavy! It nearly fell down the hole taking me with it. I’m never lifting it again!!

The engine to charge the battery idea is not efficient as it sounds.

I know for sure that a mid size family hatchback running as a series hybrid needs the same size engine as combustion engine only.

Ok the engine runs at peak efficiency but by the time you add up the extra manufacturing cost there’s not much point.

It makes more and more sense as the car gets smaller so maybe just superminis etc will use this.

Reminds me of a friend of mine.

Several years ago on holiday in Florida he found a ladies gold Rolex on the beach. Handed it in to the local sheriff leaving his name and address, forgot all about it. Few months later he receives a parcel and sure enough there is the watch together with a letter from the sheriff praising his honesty and informing him the watch is now his as nobody claimed it within the required period. His wife still wears it.

I would hand it in, could be very valuable to someone and maybe if the UK is the same and no one claims you get to keep it guilt free. Win Win.

I’ve just been in the same position.

In the end I just stuck it all in premium bonds. I put the maximum in (50K) and over the 3 draws I was eligible for I won £150.

Easy to put it in and get it out. Very safe.

Perhaps someone who knows can calculate the equivalent interest rate for this return?

As mentioned earlier you need to look at the approved plans on your local councils planning website.

We were just about to buy a phase 1 house with a lovely landscaped green in front, seller assured us that this was green space that can’t be touched. Sure enough when we checked the approved plans phase 3 included a block of apartments and a house on this green space.

Father in law does groundworks for major builders and its a common ploy. Build all the biggest most expensive houses in phase 1 with lots of green space. Once phase 1 is sold return to dig up the green space and build more houses. He says he often landscapes an area knowing he will be back in 12 months to dig it up again.

Not too difficult but has a couple of ‘high risk’ operations where you have to peel parts away from the case that are glued in. Would be very easy to damage things and if you damage the touch ID sensor you are in big trouble. Took me around an hour using a guide from ifixit.

I used to be an electronics technician so am comfortable doing this kind of work.

I wouldn’t do it again, I would just pay someone.

Im 6 foot and on an XL. In my opinion you are definitely a size large. On an XL you may not get the seatpost low enough and might struggle with standover.

Can highly recommend Raceface Flank core

    https://www.raceface.com/products/details/flank-core-guards

Have had one of these for about 4 years now, fits super snug and low profile. Once the D3O inserts warm up it moulds to your body and is very comfy. The shoulder pads and spine pad are removable you you can choose where to protect. Just pop the pads out and throw it in the washer when it gets smelly. Been used regularly and showing no signs of wear.

Love this bike, use it for everything from railway lines to downhill tracks. Looking forward to it showing a little bit of rust through the green.

Weird, two simultaneous sizing questions about the two exact bikes I own (YT Capra thread)

I’m 6’1″ and on a MK1 18″ frame with 50mm stem and it feels a touch short, been toying with a 70mm stem but didn’t want to screw the handling.

I know they now come in two different reaches for each frame size and comparing the geometry charts it looks like my 1st gen 18″ slots in between the short/long 2nd gen 18″.

Based on this I would recommend you get a 18″ long reach. It’s what I would get if buying again.

    Just to add some confusion…..

I’m 6’1″, 33″ inside leg and on an XL – fits me perfectly.

I have had to raise the seatpost maybe 1 or 2″ to get correct seat height. However I’m using a reverb and they now come with an E-13 so not sure if that would affect things.

Was able to get hold a pneumatic reservoir. Easy to adapt as it already has holes and threads for standard fittings plus its designed for just this purpose.

Same here, no longer any different from the others.

    Highly recommend Strider.

They come with two seats and you can get it super low. He got the bike for his 1st birthday and almost straight away was walking around while straddling it which is possible due to the very low standover.

It’s also extremely light which meant straight away he could pick it up and drag it around.

Nissan aren’t being paid to do something they already were doing. Those models could have gone to another plant in Europe.

They had to make a decision ASAP as to where it goes so they can get started to ensure its released into the market before the current models get so outdated they get overtaken by rivals and stop selling.

I would hope if any other major company had such a decision to make in such a timeframe then they could also approach the government and get a similar assurance.

3 stars: Average to good protection for the occupant but does not have crash avoidance technology.

    wayniac

Maybe an expert can confirm but my understanding is:

If a car is missing certain crash avoidance technology e.g. radar controlled emergency braking then no matter how good it’s crash performance is than it is limited to 3 stars

Also since the ratings get change over the years they get become harder to achieve so you can’t make a comparison between a car tested now and another tested umpteen years ago.

Also stayed at Dalbeattie without any problems with a van and small tent. Had a police car come into the car park in the evening do a loop and drive past me with a little wave then some people trail building walk past in the morning with a cheery hello.

In former job as a maintenance tech told the shift manager that a machine was not working as the flux capacitor was not getting the required 1.21 gigawatts and turning up the power fixed the fault. Made sure I pronounced it as jigawatts too.

    From Bikeradar site:

The legend that is Steve Peat is returning to World Cup racing for his final season after an injury-plagued 2015. He was unable to get the required 30 UCI points to race Lourdes in his team kit. Luckily, British Cycling can enter a number of riders from the UK so long as they wear a British Cycling jersey. Keep an eye out for Peaty on track.

    It was 850 pounds.

Not willing to take the risk. I’ve told him cash only and have not heard anything back.

    Thanks for the advice folks.

No bottle cage mounts on a Shan. Not the biggest of problems but may put some people off.

I have a Switchback and I love it although even the large could be a bit small for anyone over 6 foot.

I will talk to the agent on Monday and offer a nominal fee for introducing the buyer.

    wayniac
    Free Member

    Well well well……..

The buyer was real, gave them by mobile number and they have made an offer, negotiations ongoing!

Have not spoken to the estate agent at all.

The estate agent is not handling the sale of the potential buyers house.

The potential buyer had called in specifically asking for houses in my area and with nothing suitable being available the agent offered to contact me and arrange a viewing.

    Thanks for the advice everyone.

The price thats advertised now is from 14 months ago and since then a new estate has been built very close with equivalent houses in worse locations for a significantly higher price. In my opinion a 5K increase is easily justified.

I guess the house did not sell last time due to 2 other similar properties on the same estate also available at the time both of which were cheaper, one due to a couple splitting up and wanting a quick sale (local gossip). The other was only marginally cheaper but was in a bit of a state. Plus we found out we had a baby on the way and took it back down after only a few months.

We will see who turns up at 4pm?

Hope they are out quick though as the rugby is on!

Exact same story. Looking for some new brakes and saw the offer. Gave up after the age failed to load after 3 attempts. Looking elsewhere now.

    Surely this is killing them!

Woud it be that hard to just restore the old website.

    Can’t really agree with that.

I’ve just sold my sx trail which I used as a single ring trial bike and downhill bike. Just moved to a status and while the status blows the sx trail away downhill there is no way it’s almost as easy to pedal though.

However the mini dh bike thing is bollocks. The sx trail was good fun but the status is in a different league. If you are going to ride dh then just get a dh bike.

SX trail is the only one. The older design ones are better.

    A packet of biscuits?

Is handing over of specified amount of money for service/products not enough?

    Does anyone actually do this?
