It’s held in a car park and there is a cafe upstairs in the Mud Dock. Spoilt for choice really.

Heading towards a medium then. Is this sizing similar across all santa cruz models?? (nice bike by the way! Deffo need to try and have a closer look at one)

    – carl – thanks for the info? I’m guessing your saying you need 200psi in the spv not me at 9 stone??

Also, another question. I’ve go a shock with the SPV valve on the same side as the main chamber valve but have seen another one exactly the same with the valve on the SPV chamber facing the opposite side of the shock??
Any idea which is correct, or why they are different?

Great thanks. I’ll give it a go.
What effect would running a higher pressure (i.e. 75% instead of 2/3rds) have? Would this give more or less bob?? If I can understand how it works it will help with the fiddling instead of just going one way and then the other.

Small really is small as well! I think up to about 5’4″ rider?

    I’m 5’7″ and ride a small Avalanche. I wouldn’t have chosen a bigger one.

I’m guessing you measure the stroke etc with the pressure all released?

Pressures are ok but there’s no damping at all. If you go over a bump it almost buckaroos you out of the saddle and keeps bouncing! I’m guessing it’s beyong the point of repair. This is with the damping set at the slowest as well.
I’ll try and measure to look for a replacement.

I’ve just been and sat on a 17.5″. It seems just a little too stretched out for my liking. Back to the drawing board. 😕

You could always pop over to the raven if you have a spare day. There’s planty more riding over there.

The skyline is boring as hell but long. The majority of it is on fire road including some decents which is really annoying!
The last decent of the skyline is good and I would do the route if you really want to get some miles in but exciting it is not. On a good day you get great views though!
If I was you I would do Cwmcarn on the 1st day, W2 at Afan on day 2 and FOD on the way back. All boxes ticked.

Yeah no warranty. Hmmmm. Maybe now looking at the Orange.
I’m liking the look of Santa Cruz’s as well.
I wish I was more decisive there’s too much choice out there.

    2011 orange 5 about £2k
    2011 EX9.9 – £2.4k for the one I’ve been offered.

    Thanks for all the comments.
I seem to have opened a can of worms here!
I love the orange but can’t get over the spec I can get in the form of a Trek fuel ex 9.9 for the same sort of cash.
    I’m 5’6, maybe 5’7 on a good day. Will I fit a 16.5 actual (17.5 virtual) Trek ex?
Don’t want to travel miles to get it if it’s definately going to be too big?

Also, I like the sound of a Santa Cruz, Lapierre Zesty / Spicy or Yeti but can’t seem to find anything quite as good as the Trek or Orange?
    Any other suggestions out there?

Thanks for the replys. I forgot to say that I will be buying 2nd hand so have the choice of a 16″ 2011 orange five pro (cost new £2900) or a 2011 17″ trek ex 9.9 carbon (cost new £6000!). It’s the spec and original cost of the Trek thats making me think about it.
I have considered others but haven’t found anything yet that looks as sweet as a Five. I don’t want anything too heavy as I want to be able to climb as well.
I’m currently running a Giant Reign so this is the only thing I can compare either bike to.
