Store the blood in non plastic containers. No Platicisation.
wallace1492Free MemberIt was an amazing achievement for its day. Show’s what can be achieved with large scale teamwork and sheer determination.
just a pity that sort of willingness and effort has to be channeled into something that was the product of the Cold War. Yes, plenty good came out of it, but it was as a result of militaising space.
What I can’t understand is that after millenium of so called modern society, we still have such tribal conflicts, petty national bickering, and such self interested posturing from virtually everyone. It is a real shame that it will take a long time yet before we can become a united world.
wallace1492Free MemberI too lost a Hand Grenade on the way to work, though not today. Replace it with another the same, but better secured.
They are a good light!

From what I can gather Cancer makes people think about living not about cheating.
Can tou explain what that means, because it makes no sense to me
Plenty of doc’s that would surely spill the beans on supplying for a decent payday.
The doctors are more than well paid. Plus if they ‘spill the beans’ they get bans too, why would they do that?
For cash my dear boy, for cash… Might be well paid, but I am sure there would be one willing to “bust the myth” that is LA.
wallace1492Free MemberThe difference is with Marion Jones, she was deeply entrenched in the BALCO affair.
I think that if LA had been naughty that it would have come out. Plenty of doc’s that would surely spill the beans on supplying for a decent payday.
Plus, he has rather a long way to fall should it be true. Is it really worth trying to live the lie rather than tell the truth.

No luxuries at all allowed if you are unemployed – bare basics for survival only despite the fact we do not have work for millions of people
So are fags on booze esentials? These peope, seem to do OK out of our benefits system.
wallace1492Free MemberHow much does 200 ciggies cost ? (no idea here, never touched one) £70-£75 quid, £18-20 for case of lager, £8 for pouch of baccy.
So, about half of the “grocery shopping” is going on tobacco and booze.
wallace1492Free MemberI am surprised at their energy bill. All those people rammed into a tiny house I’m surprised it needs any heating at all!
Plus burning that amount of fags/baccy must cause some heat too!
Shopping at Tesco/Morrison’s too, they aint cheap.
wallace1492Free MemberJesus wept. My tax pays for his booze, fags, Sky package and pouch of tobacco! I cannot even afford top Sky package…

I cant see the need for a CX bike if its just tarmac, but regarding tourers I appreciate the rolling of a 700c wheelset, so are Audax bikes like a 700c tourer ?My Tricross is perfect for commuting, touring and long days in the saddle. Very versatile, really, do consider a CX, you will not regret it.

I reckon we should give the Falklands back to the Argentines just as soon as the Spanish give back Argentina to the Incas…The Inca’s? They were from the north and invaded the present day land of Argentina, but only a sidgen of it). Think you may mean the indigenous tribes of the region than the Inca’s. It’s like saying give Britain to the Vikings. History lesson over.
wallace1492Free Memberhels – Member
Perhaps instead of a referendum we could resettle the SNP to the Falklands. They can have their independence there, where it will be useful for somethingMaybe that would be the only way of the “Scotch” getting fair share of oil money. Plus could always pppppick up a ppppenguin!
wallace1492Free MemberThe answer – I am all electric! 😉
But seriously harrowing pictures. Hard to force change on this, as were were there once. Though maybe with pressure, help and encouragement we can get these countries past the sheer explotation of people. Then we can try and clean up our act before Mother Nature decides to clean us up.
wallace1492Free MemberCalm down guys, nothing is going to happen.
Quite rightly Argentina want a share of the oil on their doorstep.Plus of course they would not mind getting the islands under their control. Should they have them? Personally I would like to see it, its costing us a fortune to keep them.
wallace1492Free MemberSo why do the private sector need bonuses for motivation but the public sector do not?
does anyone actually have an answer to this?
They don’t. It is all on an individual basis. Some people work in the public sector because they are motivated to do that particular job/career/vocation regardless of the reward. Others will do is as it is a safe, lifelong job, with little danger of being sacked, hence you get poor performing staff that are very hard to get rid of.
In private sector, much the same. Plenty of bad staff there too, they are probably treated badly and get quite poor rewards. The there are some that are motivated by money in the same way that the public sector are motivated by doing a great job.
It takes all sorts and there is no “answer”
Personally I think the bonus culture in banking got well out of hand about 10 years ago. 25 years ago, a career in Banking was no more rewarding looking than any other job. Things have changed big time. The base pay is much better, but the Bonus culture is just so wrong now.
wallace1492Free Memberbajsyckel – I was just being a little pedantic!
If hiring a van, then a lot more possibilities. Fort William comes more into the equation. If you have not been to Scotland, then IMHO, for scenery, you cannot get much better than Glen Coe, and there is some superb riding round there. Devils Staircase, Ciarin Path, Loop round Ben Nevis, the trails at FW as well. Although FW is not that nice, it has the facilities. It also opens up access to Skye – you drive to Mallaig and get Ferry over. Again superb scenery on the way (take coastal road). Nice distillery on Skye – Talisker.
Best distilleries are on Islay, but not worth it if you have only 3 days and want to do some riding.
wallace1492Free Memberbajsyckel – has Fort William just moved north of Inverness? Or did I read wrong?
wallace1492Free MemberAviemore for definate. Decent riding and loads of distilleries not too far away.
Fort William a possibility. Great riding but only 1 distillery locally.
Folk that say Glentress/borders have not read your post correctly! No decent distilleries down there.
wallace1492Free MemberI tour on a CX bike (Tricross) wide range of gears, drop handlebars for comfort. Rach and panniers hold plenty, 2 man tent on top of rack, with bag and inflatable mat.
Take as little as you can get away with. e.g. if away for 2 days you will not need change of clothes, take minimal wash kit. For first time, try eating out (pub, cafes etc) saves weight and gives you an idea what its like. I carry a Pocket Rocket stove, and small pan though.
First time it takes a while to get used to the weight, and will be slow, so try a few trial runs loaded up.
Don’t try and go too far, ride within your comfort zone, but best of all have fun, its a superb way to travel, and having got somewhere by bike, it gives an imense sense of achievement.
Oh, and bring plenty spares/tools for the bike, far more than you would on a normal run. (the more you bring though the less likely it is you will need them!)
wallace1492Free MemberI am sure there will be unrealistic expectations on both sides. England will want the oil, Scotland will want the carriers….
wallace1492Free MemberThere maybe something nasty round the corner. Israel will not let them develop nuclear weapons, Iran will keep trying. Syria may join in to try and rally the people from infighting to a commom enemy.
There are accidents waiting to happen
wallace1492Free MemberBank shares…. seriously.
RBS – currently 28p. It will not fail. Potential that this could be worth a few quid in 10-15 years.
Premium bonds are safe, so invest most in their, but why not try 10-15% of the inheritance in something that could give a 10 fold increase.
(Remember stacks can go down as well as up, and there are other Banks!)
wallace1492Free MemberSo, you were happy to book and pay for it, without knowing about the offer.
Did you in fact have dinner in the restaurant 2 out of the 3 nights you were there? This is required in order to gain the discount. If you did then I would suggest a phone call to the Hotel. If not….. 😕
wallace1492Free Member2-3 months round Europe in my Bongo.
Will bring road bike and mountain bike. That is after several very long lazy weeks/weekends round Scotland.
Ah the joys of redundancy….. 8)
wallace1492Free Member😉 The Royal Yacht Concordia…… and Capt Francesco Schettino 😉
wallace1492Free MemberVoodoo and the Plantation are outside the Park, so are not being considered in the initial bout of maintenance. However as you say Mr Plow, there is the possibility of working with other landowners round and about if this is sucessful.
Also, I see nothing wrong in clearing fallen trees that are blocking paths, it probably helps the walkers and other users too.
Looking forward to the first real session!
wallace1492Free MemberThis should be a very interesting and worthwhile exercise.
The erosion on a lot of the trails has been bad in the last year, with horrendeous weather and quite heavy use. It will be good to put something back and try and protect as many trails as possible from getting any worse.
Over the last while we have been conciously avoiding a lot of the affected trails to try and help them recover – Riverside, Rocky Rooty, etc, and of course have been avoiding Pietche’s moor.
I do hope this is a sucess.
wallace1492Free MemberTesco do a cree torch for a £10er, have used it helmet mounted and it is fine. Not as bright as a magicshine, but a decent enough second light.
wallace1492Free MemberNight riding is great fun. Our group goes out most Monday nights from Milgavie Train Station. Usual fare is WHW, Carbeth, Carglas, Mugdock, and maybe some of Dougalston.
The path along the river is not the best from Maryhill to Milngavie, extremely muddy in parts, and there are a few fence crossings. Part of it is along a narrow path right on the bank of the Kelvin, not something for this time of year, with high, fast water.
Other route you might like is canal out to Bishopbriggs, take path through Cawdor Golf Club, out to Balmore, then up backroads to Baldernock and on to Mugdock.
wallace1492Free MemberSurely the evidence of any purchased tickets can be produced, either by the Student or Scotrail.
If ticket was bought and Scotrail issued incorrectly, there should be full apology. However, student could have bought correct ticket on the train and complained later.
If student bought incorrect ticket by accident then well, HE should have apologised to ticket inspector and bought correct one – they do sell them. He could have got refund on his incorrectly bough one later.
If student has not bought a ticket at all and chanced getting away with it, then he is a lying wee toe-rag.
In either scenario he should have been more polite to the Inspector, bought a correct ticket or got off the train. He acted incorrectly and I have absolutely no sympathy for him.
The Big Man took the law into his own hands without knowing if any law was broken or what the consequences would be. It should have been left for teh Police to get a full understaning and take appropriate action. There was no violence before (but maybe some abusive language) so there was absolutely no need for this downright assault.
2 days prison over Xmas for both of them will soon let them reflect on their behaviour.
wallace1492Free MemberI have a road SS and a CX, love then both. If had to be 1 it would be the CX by far. Versatile, adaptable and comfy. Tricross is the name, simply superb….. the new version with disk brakes looks stunning.
wallace1492Free MemberIf people think it is OK to RLJ on bikes when it is safe, then is it OK to do it in a car as long as you have looked and its safe. Both subject to the same rules of the road, so what is good for one……
However as TJ says there can be situations where RLJing actually does increase the safety for cyclists. There is one such junction on my commute where a pedestrian crossing is about 50 yards before a busy junction. I RLJ the ped xing to get ahead at the main junction to avoid the vehicles.
However, that is the only one I know of. Bet quite a few cyclist use the “safety” excuse when it is in fact nonsense.
