On the face of it, it does not seem to be offensive, however, you would need to be there to understand the context, and hear how it was said. Two sides to every story.

Yes, what it will take is a massive amount of pressure from a US president that wants to go down in history. It is unlikey, but the only way I can see it being resolved without a rather ugly war.

A mate of mine always wanted a state funeral, think the only way he could get it would be to bring peace to the Middle East and bring thousands of years of conflict to end.

So, come the summer, will the Wembley goalposts and crossbar be heading north? 😉

Depends on the kit……If it is just running spikes, then train. if you need poles, maybe a truck.

From Glasgow, so assuming you might be fencing?

I used to do 7.5 miles each way in Glasgow, started off on my MTB with slicks, that was fun, and gave me some MTB options on way home. Then i got a CX bike, and that was faster and opened up all sorts of different paths home. Some were north, south, east and west of correct route. Longest was 25 miles in and 48 on way home….. 😯

Then got old road bike (Raleigh Elan) single speeded, and it was great fun, though as no gears it curtailed my extra trips. However, was great for fitness.

Use what you have to begin with, plenty will depend on what roads/trails/paths you use and what facilities at work – I had underground car park and locker room/shower.

I loved it! Great way to start the day, but as you buy more gear, it is not as cheap as you think, though the fun and fitness, and just amazing smugness of cycling in every day makes it all worthwile. Enjoy!

Surely a cheaper way would be to cover the Moon in tin foil, dig a few tunnels to live in and mount a giant water pistol on it. Poundstrecher Death Star.

No problem Pig Hitter. Is her label showing?

I think we can reasonably assume that he will not be tortured.

Quite, well not by the state. But as said above, if Bubba who is serving 40 years for crack supplying feels like hitting a few balls with the esteemed Golf Captain in the 19th, he might wish his name was Abdul-Jabaar Siddiqui.

Just some stuff gets sort of Ice Burn from being in the freezer, especially opened bags of frozen veg. The sausages are in sealed bags.
Guess they are fine for a while then…. roll on BBQ time!

epicyclo, I believe that the USA do not “officially” torture. It is unlikely that the gentleman will be “rendered” to a Middle Eastern or African country for a little errr local hospitality. And I think we insist that anyone extradited will not face the death penalty.

What baffles me, is that why did we not prosecute him? Surely we too have an embargo on these sort of exports to Iran.

He is not denying selling the batteries, but claiming “entrapment”, well if you keep on the right side of the law, you cant be “entraped”.

Maybe he could say there were Magicshine batteries for the new fad of night MTBing in Iran.

UTTERLY absurd: that is the only way to describe the debate on bonuses. Here is why. Imagine a salesperson at a widget company so brilliant that she brings in £10m a year for her firm. She is the best widget salesperson in the UK and her firm’s biggest asset. Her company, unfortunately, is loss-making – but if it were to lose her to a rival, it would collapse. Yet according to the current received wisdom, she shouldn’t receive a bonus. Only profit-making firms should be allowed to pay bonuses, we are constantly told, regardless of individual effort and regardless of consequences. The fact that this means she will leave – widgets salespeople aren’t know for their loyalty – and her firm will go bust, with the loss of many jobs, is deemed irrelevant. It’s madness.

This is the BS that people getting bonus’s trot out. The fact is that not only is the person doing the brilliant job getting a bonus (quite rightly) but there are loads down the food chain still with their snouts in the trough. There are 10’s of thousands getting bonus’s, not just the top widget maker, and that is the problem.

Its often who you know and BS like that, that gets your bonus. Seen it far too often. So many far less capapabe people getting a leg up it really sickens, so glad I am out of all that.

    You looked inside frame?

Had one last year and could not trace it for ages. Turned out to be zip from saddlebag “tickling” the frame.

Publishing this is obviously high in his priorities

Yes, but perhaps staying alive is not as high a priority, still he will leave some good footage of a spectacular ending!

Done it in Gartmorn beside Alloa. Great 2 days learning. A lot of map skills, though reasonably basic. Try and realistically account for time/distance, as some were well of the mark. Also, mastering the skills course helps, I never practiced the pick up bottle with left/put it down with right thing, and got stuck badly on that!

Oh and when you get to lead, try and get the rest of the guys doing something interesting. I got everyone to manual in time, and the instructor was impressed! Also bring plenty of sweeties to hand out – everyone likes a bribe! 😉

I have just been made redundant after 25 3/4 years. Office moved and i didn’t want to. But the atmosphere had changed over last few years and I had lost the “good feeling” I had had for a long time.

Apart from having a stinking cold right now, I am so happy to be out there. I was paid very well, and dont think i will get the same again, but as TJ said, work to live.

I intend to do some volunteering or some bike work over next few months. Looking forward to spring and summer!

By the way, the taxman takes a fair chunk of your cheque!

    I know Stoner.

    Good article mashiehood.

Yes, you have to reward high performers, and keep them happy. But where has loyalty gone? The days of having loyalty to a particular employee seem to have long gone. I speak from one who spent 25 years at a firm, and was (IMHO) a pretty decent performer. Now I have no loyalty to them, and we have in fact parted ways.

It seems that banks can only keep the top performers by paying them top whack and Bonus, and in my experience they have become a lot poorer for that. The employee loyalty and feeling of belonging and being part of a “family” has gone.

Have used Endomondo, and like its layout and sharing ability. Tried Strava too, and it could be good, but most folk I know also use Endo, so stick to that.

Stoner, I know some are Contracted, but you only took part of my quote!! I said a lot of staff will not have a contracted bonus.

Anyways, I do know that the “expected” bonus in the non contracted staff still is there, and it is still being given out though at lower levels. It is now part of the culture, just pure greed in my view.

A lot of staff will not have a Bonus Contract, it will be part of their Total Reward, and always be discretionary. You can hit your targets, in fact surpass them and still not get a bonus. Basic salaries are pretty decent in the industry.

    Jaffa cakes I think……

And you are right Big_N_Daft, why supply aid to a country that spends a fortune on Space, or indeed Nukes, and massive amounts of weapons, while people in its streets have no water, no houses, no food.

Plenty people do not have any sort of self determination at all, its them my heart bleeds for.

I am all in favour of self determination, but do we not as the UK spend rather a lot of loot in keeping the Falkands supplied and defended? I think the inhabitants should negotiate with Argentina and open up cheaper supply routes.

Botswana is superb, spend some time in the Okavango Delta, completely amazing. Crossed the Kazungula Ferry over the Zambezi and that was an interesting experience. Lovely people, fantastic country.

    What a fun thread…..

Seems that Stoner is taking the kid to see a wonderful event. Kid is only 5 and will not suffer much loss of education, and in fact will get some pretty good life education, including French. I think Stoner said he would do it this year an maybe next, then would be more reluctant to do it, when the education becomes more intensive.

Don’t think Stoner mentioned he is doing it for convenience or cost, but to see the TdF. Seems like for a one of event to me.

One mans terrorist is anothers freedom fighter. There will always be injustice. Both sides will do nasty things that we don’t agree with, doesn’t make it right, you will not stop people fighting or all the injusticies around the world. What we can try and do is keep it to a minimum, and that may well be by means we do not agree with. Is it right to kill a terrorist, if he is a terrorist in our peception.

So basically its ok for us and our buddies, just not for those scary Arab types that don’t like us much?

As someone mentioned above, the US’ complicity in terrorism in S America massively dwarfs anything carried out by Al Quaeda or Hezbollah. That’s not a nutty conspiracy theory either, just a matter of historical record.

I dont belive I said it was OK. It is not a black and white situation. I simply posed the question. Please don’t put words in my mouth.

Iran having nukes would not prevent anyone attacking them,

    wallace1492

I am pretty sure that Isreal having them has avoided any major attacks on it.

sothey would not act as a deterrent for Iran but do for Israel?

Yes. No Arab country has attacked Isreal – IMHO they would use them if required. If Iran acquires them, they will be fledgling, and unable to be deployed a great distance, so would probably not stop the USA from attacking. Diffetent circumstances.

UN resolutions are just people voting for their own self interest, doesnt mean that they are right.

Iran having nukes would not prevent anyone attacking them, and I don’t think anyone should. However i would prefer that they did not have them

TJ, the lost in translation thing is pretty good, maybe he was misqouted and want to be pals with them really. I am sure that Iran would never assist any terrorist organisations.

Either all Nuclear weapons are illegal or none are. I fail to see where it is legal for one country to have them, and illegal for another.

I am pretty sure that Isreal having them has avoided any major attacks on it.

Isreal has been attacked by its Arab neighbors on many occassions, however less so in the time since it has had Neuclear weapons. Is that a co-incidence? Doubt it. They know who has the big stick, and would probably use it rather than be wiped off the face of the earth. A holocaust will make people quite determined to survive.

Remember as well, that Iran has vowed to wipe Isreal off the map, that is rather provocative, and would certainly get them twitchy.

I would certainly be quite uncomfortable with Iran having neuclear capabilities, as they could easily find their way to a terrorist group.
