You can get hydralic disc brakes on a CX bike, though that may be a tad expensive for your budget. I started commuting on my hardtail with slicks then moven onto a Specialised Tricross, great versatile bike, and been touring all over on it. Takes rack and mudguards, I have two sets of wheels, 1 for road work and other with 35mm for offroad and canal tracks and so on, brilliant fun. I then converted and old road bike to single speed and it was superb for the commute, really helps with fitness too.
Road cycling is superb fun, but it all depends where you do it. Country roads with big hedges dont do it for me, but an open scottish road with superb sea views and mountain scenery is simply stunning.
wallace1492Free Member10 Mgapixers on it….. how sharp is that? Saw some go up to 16MP, is it worth getting the higher rating?
wallace1492Free MemberToo many people are using “Jew” and “Israeli” interchangeably. They are not the same thing.
True, but for USA foriegn policy, they are extremely interchangable, hence their rather liberal support of the Israeli government. If any other country had behaved like that the great democracy of the world would be outraged, but the very large Jewish influential population dictates otherwise.
wallace1492Free MemberThought the title was Autoperve, put some sort of robotic devience device thoughts in my head. 😯
wallace1492Free MemberA few years ago I would see Murray fall apart right now and lose 3-1, but he is sterner stuff now, and is actually coming back just when you think he is on way down.
Fingers crossed……….
wallace1492Free MemberBllx – funny how Castle is not even attempting to be neutral, especially on that volley at 5:5:!!!
British commentator on a British channel commentating on a British player….. hmmm not expecting it to be neutral!
wallace1492Free MemberJeez….. so close, good comeback, but Fed closed it out well
wallace1492Free MemberOK, OK spolier added….. didn’t realise people may want to watch later not knowing score!
On other news….. Armstrong (may contain spolier) – Man lands on the moon.
wallace1492Free MemberMy favourite Burns:
When first my brave Johnie lad came to this town,
He had a blue bonnet that wanted the crown;
But now he has gotten a hat and a feather,
Hey, brave Johnie lad, cock up your beaver!Cock up your beaver, and cock it fu’ sprush,
We’ll over the border, and gie them a brush;
There’s somebody there we’ll teach better behaviour,
Hey, brave Johnie lad, cock up your beaver!wallace1492Free MemberSo….. not delayed, couple of dog walkers get across, and you have a rant on here! Some people need a real life…..
It is a shame that we need crossing attendents, as plenty of drivers would not stop to let someone cross (perhaps you?) even though as shown it would not delay you in the slightest.
Be considerate on the road, let people cross, do a good deed.
wallace1492Free MemberSo, if you do not admit liability why in the above cases have the insurance companies paid out thousands without any further input from the client? i.e. no liability admitted, then surely the full circunstances need to be determined and the party at fault determined, and informed/agree?
wallace1492Free MemberMarc Dutroux
I had to look him up…. Nice!!
How would you know of him?
From a lot of news reports, as you can imagine it was a rather big story at the time with all the police shortcomings and alleged cover up. Doesn’t cast Belgium in a good light….
wallace1492Free MemberWell b r, there is a number on the article you link to for reporting Insurance Fraud, take it you have done this?
My point above is that it appears that the insured party must have reported the incident to their insurers and admitted liability. The impression is that £8k was paid out just after swapping details.
All the above show’s that it may be a good idea not to admit liability at the time.
wallace1492Free MemberSounds to me that the letter is coming from a no win no fee solicitor? If the claim was coming from the claimants insurance company, surely they would just contact your mum’s insurer directly?
FWIW – she must get her insurance company to dispute this false claim. My wife had an accident on the M3, in the morning rush hour in September 2006. The traffic was more or less stationary and she lightly rolled into a Honda CRV in front but the cars no more than kissed each other! There was no damage to her car and “no visible damage” to the Honda. They exchanged details and went on their way. Months later my wife heard from her insurer that they had paid out over £8000. My wife didn’t ask what this related too, but at no point did her insurer contact her to confirm her side of events. Unfortunately that claim against her, has meant she has been paying stupid premiums ever since.
Can’t believe that an insurance company would pay out £8k with absolutely no input from the insured party. She must have reported it to them and also admitted liability at the same time, thus leaving herself open to any type of claim. Insurance companies do not just hand out cheques for no reason.
wallace1492Free MemberExcellent filming and brilliant series. The first one was stunning, all have been great. But agree that the sardine run was better, but I thought on Nature’s Great Events.
wallace1492Free MemberThe kid should be sacked by the club. Firstly for his twitter inferrence that he was going to wste time – if a footballer did that, the FA/Club would take action, secondly he was clearly doing what he said, and basically cheating on behalf of Swansea, call it “gamesmanship” if you want, but its giving Swansea an unfair advantage.
Hazard behaved incorrectly and deserves his punishment.
Swansea have said that they did not give instructions to waste time – yeah, right, but I am sure they dont tell ball boys to get the ball back to the opposition as quickly as possible.
wallace1492Free MemberThat is ridiculous. I would contact the company again regarding this as to why there is a whiplash claim as there was nobody in the vehicle. At same time request video footage (if they have the area covered)
wallace1492Free MemberLocking blade is not metioned specifically in the legislation. The main criteria is whether you have a legitimate reason for carrying it, and as part of a multi tool used for cycling purposes, (or other leisure pursuits) I see no bother in having it with you as part of your cycling kit. However, if you still had it in your pocket when going to pub without bike, then maybe a dimmer view would be taken.
If these blades were illegal per se, then they could not be sold in this country, the fact that they are for sale in many shops and high streets, as well as on the net, shows that they are in fact legal, but subject to the “legitimate reason” test.
wallace1492Free MemberI have Nikon Monarch 10×36, very light compact and superb quality (except for the bag!) Everyone that has looked through them comments on the quality and clarity. Brilliant for wildlife. Not cheap at about £200, but so glad I got them.
wallace1492Free MemberSuspension is a brilliant tool, have had two now (lost first one) very handy for all sorts of stuff, cable cutting, clipping tie wraps, extracting brake shoes. Take it on virtually all rides (unless I for get it!) Great value, and reasonably strong.
wallace1492Free MemberHad wisom teeth removed. Was slightly apprehensive going to the dental hospital, where “students” would be in attendence and “helping”, but dentist put me at ease and pulled out a smallish syringe and injected the back of my jaw. While I was still able to speak, I said “that ain’t too bad…” just in time for him to reply “No, no, that is to numb it so we can inject you with this…” and he pulls out what I can only describe as a Horse Syringe, and proceeded to inject what felt like molten metal into my jaw.
Anyway, 2 teeth out later, 1 of which consisted of the Dentist having his knee on my chest and a student pulling him back – it felt like the pliers were on my jaw bone, not a tooth. I felt like I had some sort of stroke on the way home, as the whole left side of my face was numb. Sitting on the train I wondered why I was getting funny looks then caught site of my reflection – a drizzle of blood was seeping from my mouth down my chin and I couldnt feel it at all.
Next morning my pillow was soaked in blood and it resembled the Horse in bed scene from the Godfather.
Anyway, hope it all goes OK! 😀
wallace1492Free MemberIt still beggars belief that most of our society is centred around teachings which have been proven wrong.
I wish that all the religions would say fair enough its all bollocks. We shall call our selves Nice Club from now on. They can still sing happy songs and help people.Obviously they will skip the hating certain people bits.
I’m all for sun worshipping. Its definitely there and it gives life to our planet.
Thank you Sun.So, next Ophera show is the Pope….
“So, Mr Pope, just answer ‘Yes’ or ‘No’…”
“You agree that the bible is a pile of bollox with no more relvence than Lord of the Rings?”….. “Yes”
…..wallace1492Free MemberDruidh, that is what is being said. More in jail, less cime.
wallace1492Free MemberHighlander….. Loved the plot of the original, but the film lacked bite and the effects were prety poor. It did however give superb scenery shots in Scotland. Queen soundtrack was great in places, but a litle OTT in other.
wallace1492Free MemberCalgary Bay on Mull, wild camping, but toilet beside it.
Also anywhere along Loch Na Keal on Mull, again wild, but with stunning scenery (no toilet)
Showers avaiable in Tobermory for £2 a pop.
Clachtoll (as above) is stunning, as is Durness and Gairloch.
Quite a few along from Arisaig with amazing sunsets over the small isles and Skye.wallace1492Free MemberHedgehopper – Member
Can you give an example of the British Army blowing members of the IRA up please Junkyard? Don’t seem to remember that
Gibralter? Bloody Sunday? Shot in cold blood. There were mistakes on both sides. There are many, many instances of this type of conflict thoughout the world and throughout time. It either ends in brutal represssion and overwhelming force (Sri Lanka) or the much better solution of a negotiated settlement, with concessions given on both sides. After that it takes time to heal the hurt, and to forgive and move on.
I wish both sides all the best and hope it never goes back to the way it was.

I’m camping in Ardnamurchan tomorrow. I’m giving Smidge a try.
I really hope it works as the little bastards absolutely love me and and the bites I get often come up in ugly yellow blisters.
I’ve got some Avon and some other repellants too just for back up!
richmtb, where were you camping? I was in Kilchoan, and did a nice wee route from Fascadale to the Sanna Sands road. Did you do any routes up there? Cheers.
wallace1492Free MemberI shared a cottage with 6 other randoms off the internet in Pitlochry 2 years ago…. Back there again this year for the third time. £5 a night but need to make your own breakfast!
wallace1492Free MemberLooking forward to it, a worthwhile cause and learn something too. See you Saturday.
wallace1492Free MemberApplecross Inn does superb fish and chips. And with the awesome views over to Skye, there is no downside….
wallace1492Free MemberCheers David. How long roughly does the cartridge last? I know it depends on what you are printing, but how mant sheets roughly from full cartridges?
wallace1492Free MemberGeneral use. Not needing photo standard, just quite clear, crisp print. For maybe flyers (small amounts) documents, CV, etc. Good standard, but does not need to be top quality.
