wallace1492Free Memberagree with ed, if you eat a healthy balanced diet, you do not need any extra vitamens. There was a test done where a sample took extra vitamens and others took a placebo, they had to stop the test as a higher number of the ones taking vitamens were having heart attacks and other issues.
Top athlete – probably required, regular biker – definately not.
wallace1492Free MemberThis one has been great for me. Stuck in a square tin for small brownie squares. Replaced the Pecans with Glace Cherries, and it was superb, rich indulgent and very yummy.

He may be working illegally, so would not want authorities to be involed.
Really???
And maybe the OP was part of a crack commando unit sent to prison by a military court for a crime he didn’t commit. He then promptly escaped from a maximum-security stockade to the Chorlton underground. Today, still wanted by the government, he survives as a soldier of fortune, terrorising painters and decorators. But there’s no evidence of that either
No, no evidence, no evidence he will pay up either. Heard and seen enough stories to bear it in mind though.
wallace1492Free MemberI don’t want to sound negative, but the cause of the incident is twofold – Firstly the driver opened the door without properly looking, secondly, the OP must have been in the door openning zone as he passed the vehicle.
After many years of commuting I have had a few close calls, but when passing any vehicles, make sure I give them a wide berth and keep well out of the door zone, it has saved me on a few occassions when doors have been opened without looking as i past, my shouting gave the drivers a fright, but I was outside the openning area.
The driver seems to have been quite decent, and you should get him to pay for any damage, do this quickly, so that if he suddenly gets difficult, you can then report. He may be working illegally, so would not want authorities to be involed.
Keep well away from parked cars……
wallace1492Free MemberLes Vignes on the Tarn, superb Gorge and all sorts of swimming and kayaking, also close to the Milleu Bridge which is just awesome, and within striking distance of the Med. Been there twice, simply stunnimg location.
wallace1492Free MemberArdgarten loop is pretty good, great views but bring your climbing legs as it over 3,500ft of ascent. Stick to the Dukes Path and do it clockwise. Mostly fire roads but some nice singletrack from the Lochan to Gairlochhead, but then the long slog back up the fire road till the descent back to the Forestry Comission car park – 1 mile beyond the campsite on the right. For a full day, combine this with the Glen Loin Loop, start at the main car park in Arrochar at the head of Loch Long and up the switchbacks and turn left at the mast.
Some great scenery and views.
Consider also the Three Lochs Way, not done that one, but it is on my radar.

wallace1492Free MemberTHM, can I make a suggestion? If you see religion or any sort of reference to it, simply jog on. Free speach and debate is a wonderful thing. I don’t see anything (in this thread) that warrents being banned (other than my bad grammer and spelling).
The topic had been debated for hundreds of years, with most not making much progress as not a lot has changed. But, I for one occassionally like to see other peoples opinions, although I may or may not agree with them.
So, I am happy if you avoid any sort of religious debate or discussion till after Lent. 🙂
wallace1492Free MemberJesus Dorset (pardon the term), but you don’t have to be religious to do good in the world.
A similar list could be drawn up of all the evil and downright discrimination and abuse that religion has caused throughout the ages, and continues to do.
My pesonal belief is that humans have become so intelligent that they cannot accept that there is nothing else, so cling on to religious “teachings” that there is a greater god and a heaven etc etc. That is why at times of crises people turn to whatever god they have, but alas he/she/it aint there.
There is no shred of scientific eveidence to support any religion whatsoever.
wallace1492Free MemberOK, stand corrected, the two OLDER Sigma lenses I have do not work with the body. PITA! Good to know as I like the Sigma, and will see if I can’t get a second hand one. Cheers
wallace1492Free MemberSigma does not work with a Canon DSLR. Something in the engineering of the lens is not compliant. Wish they did as I have 2 Sigma lenses that would have been perfect.
wallace1492Free MemberCheers for this! had forgotten to bleed my radiators! Done now. Also topped up the pressure in the system by adding water – remember to do this as removing the air decreases the pressure and you need more water to replace it.
wallace1492Free MemberOn reading the article, it appears that it was more than this one incident. It seems the whole way of treating disruptive pupils has been called into question.
Presumably the boy had the knife taken off him, and was then locked in a small cupboard. I would question if this was the correct course of action. Perhaps it went against the laid down guidelines. Therefore this ost is a vast over reaction.
The full details are not clear, so it is easy to jump to comclusions.

Brilliant write up, brave doing it with the river possibly up high! Did the same loop a while ago, starting from Kinlochleven, very do-able in a day too, well in summer.wallace1492Free Memberwallace1492 – Member
If I am on a hill/mountain I would take it back down. If I am a low level walk/cycle, I would chuck it somewhere well out of the way, under bushes/hedge. If nowhere out of the way enough, I would carry it till bin.How did you transport said banana to the trail?
If anyone thinks they have nowhere to put the skin I can suggest somewhere, wet lube will help.
Never said transporting it was a problem. It takes 3-4 weeks for a Banana skin to decompose (longer if on the top of a hill) so I never leave in higher areas that are subject to long frozen times.

wallace1492Free MemberDriving down the I101 towards San Francisco, seeing the Bay Bridge through the hills and being dissapointed, thinking it was the Golden Gate, then rounding a corner at Sausalito and being confronted with the real Golden Gate bridge right in front, and the compacted elegence of San Fran on the hills beyond. Took the breath away and left me floundering and trying to find the right lane as the guys were pointing out all the landmarks we had only ever seen in films.
Watching the Celtic v Boavista UEFA Cup semi final with a group of mates in my house, Celtic scored and got through to the final, and I stood up and announced I had 6 tickets for the final (bought before the quarter final on spec) There was mayhem!
The week after the Final, (Celtic lost :() Travelled to Durness in the north of Scotland to see an Annular Solar Eclipse ( the sun rose, not quite covered by the moon, a burning ring of fire) The clouds parted at 5.40am and we got a perfect view. The previous day was driving along the coast and had to pull over to let a large Range Rover pass, the driver and passenger both waved their thanks – Brian May driving and Patrick Moore in the passenger seat.
wallace1492Free MemberBut Portland Bill was outside the path of Totality!
The edge of the area of ‘totality’ is very hard to predict accurately and I can assure you that it was total there. We could see ships lights out to sea and the light house started up. The official prediction was that the area of totality should just brush the tip of Portland Bill. We got far more than that.
You were there, I wasn’t, according to the above link, the path was 1km off the Bill (closer than I had thought!) Therefore you would have had virtually all the effect, so alopogies.
However, the sheer majesty of the effects of a Total Solar are completely amazing, for me, probably the best natural event on the planet. I am hoping to go to Indonesia for the 2016 Eclipse.
wallace1492Free Member+1 for a solar eclipse. I went to Portland Bill in 99 for the UK one and we got lucky as a small chink opened up in the clouds just before totality. BIG CHEER.
But Portland Bill was outside the path of Totality! so, although you would have had a very good effect, you did not actually see a Total Solar Eclipse. I was at St Ives for it and though we were clouded out, it went dark. Very dark. Street lights came on, and we were in our own small world of darkness in the middle of the day. That made me want to see what was happening above the clouds and I have been to 3 more – Botswana, Ghana and Easter Island. Sorry for pedantary!
wallace1492Free MemberSeeing a Total Solar Eclipse, that most certainly is a WOW moment that makes you go WOW!
Been to 4 now, and by far the most spectacular one was on Easter Island 2010. Now Easter Island and the giant Moai is a place that will make you go WOW, but combining that with a Total Solar Eclipse…. WOW WOW!
wallace1492Free MemberIntersting about previous bonus’s being clawed back. When I was working, you were more than encouraged to take your bonus in shares. Therefore a Bonus of say. £5k that you had worked extremely hard for was invested in shares at say £6 each. As the financial crises hit, those shares ventually fell to about 25p. Therefore your bonus was now worth £208. This affected very many of the ordinary workers who had no part in the crises, but had worked hard for their bonus.
Ok, easy in hindsight to say ditch out at such and such a level, but there was no telling where the fall would end up.
So therefore clawing back previously awarded Bonus’s may not really be an option, unless they were cash.
wallace1492Free MemberTry Lennox Forest Outdoor Centre on Facebook, Scott that is involved is a DH fan and could point you in direction of some good stuff.
Try also posting on the Mountain Bike Glasgow Meet up Facebook page, a good few of the guys do DH and are always happy for new faces.
wallace1492Free MemberYes, most of what I referred to is for XC though a few decent descents among them. For real downhill you could try doing Ben Lomond, The Cobbler though one hell of a lot of push up! And maybe best waiting till slighly better weather.
Some of our guys go to Innerleithen which is more Downhill orientated, you would probably also like Glentress. Regular outings to there and car sharing is encouraged.
wallace1492Free MemberJust started running with the OH, it is less faff than getting bike out, less gear, less mucking about. Plus easier to do in bad weather and at night, just stick to pavements in light up area’s – but as someone says, easier on shins if you are on paths/off tarmac.
Going well so far, just started at 2-3 miles 3 times a week. Don’t see it replacing cycling, but as a slightly easier to get out option, and it certainly does help with fitness.
Listen to your body, take note of any grumbles, watch out for stitches, but it is a very good addition to fitness, and can easily be done anywhere if you have less than an hour to spare. Consider even a run at lunchtime from work (providing you have facilities)
wallace1492Free MemberMaking bad business decisions is not against the law, cheating on benefit is. And if you multiply it up, it costs us over £5 billion a year (although other estimates are aviailable)
wallace1492Free MemberManiplulating the LIBOR rate, while completely unacceptable probably has not cost the country Billions, it probably had very little effect on the rate set and only made the RBS position very slightly more favourable.
What cost the country billions was the wrong business decisions made by many of the Investment bankers and the lax regulation from central banks/governments. A lot of the people that made these decisions are still in positions of power and that is what is very wrong.
In general the vast majority of staff who worked for these Banking institutions worked very hard and long hours, I know I was one.
But saying that, if the institution has failed, then why should any staff get bonus’s? OK, when profits were made and times were good its justifiable, but not when they are still loosing billions.
wallace1492Free MemberMountain Bike Meet Up Group[/url]
Hi Type, try the Mountain Bike Meet Up Group, link above, also the GMBC. Both do rides round Glasgow area.Cathkin Brae’s aint to far away (I have not bwen there) Also good natural riding in the Kilpatricks, some good stuff at Mugdock/Carbeth along and off the West Highland Way. Also Carron Valley is not to far away. Then there is Arrochar/Ardgarten, Aberfoyle, Loch Ard Forest, and Lennox Forest.
Plenty more will be along soon with other recomendations.
wallace1492Free MemberSo, if it was really dangerous driving, the OP would have been straight into a Police station rather than e-mailing the company. I know I would.
As the reply states, its his word against yours, and unless you have witnesses or video of it, then the Manager guy would find it hard to take action based on what has been said. Most he could do is have a quiet word with the driver.
Having said that, his reply is extremely poor and has the effect of alienating cyclists and people in general, not at all the best result that could be achieved.
Did you consider reporting to Police? If they get several reports of bad driving for a certain vehicle/company, I am sure they would have a word.
