usually is a wedge shape ring that sits between the steerer tube and the bearing, although they may well make headsets without?
check the bearing rings are up the right way?

yeah definately trying to remove the other end and cant see any circlips etc, just ball bearings within 6 'arms'. guy who i ordered parts from said that if it was a circlip type one of the arms would have a machined circe in it with thread which i cant see/isnt there…?

i am trying to remove the wheel end cv joint not the transmission end? i cant see any circlips and have just ordered a knock-off/snap-on cv over a circlipped one, am i an idiot?

    Have an update!
decided to attempt the cv joint replacement myself:
got the calliper construct off the ball joint to give enough room to push cv splines out of wheel hub, pulled out other end of driveshaft from the (engine).
Ok so a fair amount of transmission fluid escaped and ordering a new joint was an issue due to differences of 'knock-off' and circlip type joins?
Anyways have order the right part (i hope)
I now have a driveshaft in my vice and need to remove the CV joint, how do i do this? i have hammered it a bit but to no avail, please help!
Also how would i get the new joint on as getting it off was such a struggle?
    cheers, need a beer now!

I'm hi-jacking here slightly (sorry) but i want some elbow pads which are rigid not like the evo ones, its between these so far:
    661 race elbow guards
    Brand X DH elbow
    Brand X standard elbow
    Raceface Rally Fr Arm
Anyone used/own any of the above, have an opinion or can recommend me something else?
    cheers

Also do i need to replace the actual joint or just the boot?

Have educated myself to what a CV joint is it definately sounds like my problem but apparently not an mot failure.
You can pick up a replacement for ~£40, is it a hard job to replace?

Checked the service history that name keeps coming up.
Is it a major issue and is it expensive to repair?

Check you have enough pad left, clean the pads with a cloth, clean the rotor with a brake disc specific cleaner…
one of the above usually sorts it with my hayes 8)

    😆
thanks people truely brilliant suggestions…still laughing at some of them. Currently just a guy in a garage but have a steady flow of customers so hoping it continues.
Still at uni so can’t do it full time (plus i still have lots to learn about bikes) so names that don’t pin down location too much are good.
Currently under Chudleigh Cycle Reapir and Servicing but wanted something more light hearted and shorter… the short list so far is….

    Bike A&E
    The Cycle Shamen
    The Cyc-ologist
    Tea, Lube and Cake (TLC)
    Re-cycle
    Spannered
    The Bike Pit
    Wobbly Sprocket
    The Sultans of spin
    The Fettling Room
    The greasy pump

Feel free to post more will take me a while to decide i think 😀

    cheers!
