yes could be to do with the L lower limit screw especially if you are putting a lot of force on the lever with no result, try unscrewing the L stop a bit and see if it helps.

    if not start again:
    undo the cable
set the H limit screw so that the derailleur runs perfectly inline with the highest gear (without the cable attached)
attach the cable and pull finger tight, screw up the cable holder.
run down through the gears and set the L lower limit screw so that it allows the chain onto the lowest gear but not over into the spokes.
if the gears are sluggish going down the gears-add tension to the cable
if the gears are sluggish going up the gears-let off some tension

can’t recommend a jetoil enough, the flame is incredibly strong and also the base of the ‘cup’ has a network of links which transmit the heat more efficiently.
sure a bit of bodging could come up with a windsheild if you were bothered but honestly don’t think you will need it.

the bigger brother to the jet boil (not sure name) comes with a windsheild

they are brilliant, super light…and…esecially on hardtail position the clamp towards the front end of the saddle to give a nice bit of flex to take the edge off rough stuff.

before anyone jumps in i am very heavy and have never snapped mine.

thought you would have learnt about buying tat from here mike!

from putting in Trek remedy 8, 2009 model, steerer tube 1 an 1/8th (so top of the tube is the same size as on your other bike??)

and if it is fatter at the bottom (crown) it is probably 1.5″

    which gives you:

    TOP) SHIS:ZS44 – 1-1/8″ ZeroStack (ZS) Threadless

    Bottom Headset) SHIS:ZS56/40 – 1.5″ ZeroStack (ZS)

    So not much use
    have a look here too?

If not (i hate saying this!) but take it to a shop! only way i got mine was by taking it to Evans…could always buy hope tapered headset… 😀

    Wheels:
this looks like a good place to start?

    If its straight- No
If its been straightened properly- No

If its been straightened and you can see stress lines (like metal wrinkles) then Yes.
If its bent, like really bent then Yes probably as it will snap/stress when bent back.

    What bike is it?

From experience it is rarely a fault with the mech itself, usually the hanger or incorrect setup mech/cable.

Its usually pretty clear if the mech is shot, ie big scuffs, dents, bends etc

try adding some tension to the cable–>
look at the barrel adjuster and undo it (lefty-loosey), keep your finger on the cable so you can feel if its tightens or slackens.

deore is fine with deore shifters.

Difference between deore shadow and slx is nothing really, a couple holes drilled saves about 10g! but otheriwse identical.

The shadow deore is just the newer version of deore, looks different and is slightly better tucked away to avoid collision with things.

She may be right though, if you lean your bike up on its rear mech with no wheel in you may bend the hanger which in turn means that mech allignment will be off- usually characterised by it shifting fine in the middle but having issues at either end of the cassette (in some cases shifting off the cassette entirely, so make sure it cant do this)

Also it may be worth checking the higher (“H”) limit screw, to ensure that when the cable is not attached the cogs on the mech line up with the smallest ring on the cassette. If this is correct to begin with it makes setting up gears a whole lot easier.

does it skip across/between gears or slip over the top?

Does is skip more in low, mid or high gears?

Does it shift faster up than down/vice versa?

Does the leve/trigger feel sticky or stiff?

    walla24

I-beam post/saddles are not stiff what so ever, i had a bel air railed version and found that too stiff on hardtail so swapped out for matching i-beam set.
With the clamp towards the front of the saddle there is a noticeable flex which is ideal for hardtail xc’ing.
I’m 15 stone and havent broken it yet!
