folding camping bed like this from argos…

    BED

it looks like a pile of cr*p but its actually great, we’ve only done a few camping trips last year and just had blow up mattress and its amazing how much the cold comes through from the ground.

also a bag/thingymabob to carry dirty dishes cups to the sink in!

we were given 2 large polystyrene boxes with lids that we kept all food and drink in, the type of ones you see at fish markets. amazing how long stuff stayed cold with the aid of a few freezer blocks.

bag in the box red wine aswell, no faffing then for cold beers etc… (if you like red wine that is)

i thought it was just going to be another, go to x,y,z, do a,b,c etc but its is quite involving!

imo the only way to do it properly and to make it last longer is this..

I’ve built a fence using 4″ square posts and then nailed 3″ boards across them alternating each side of the post with a 3″ gap between boards on the same size.
You can tailor the gap if privacy is an issue. The gaps are the key bit as the wind can get through and its pretty easy to replace individual planks if necessary.
I did this at my mum’s 14 years ago and not a single problem since.
(Digging out the old posts was another matter however!)

but use concrete posts for even better longevity.

the last fancy dress party I went to years ago was also in a hotel but it ended up in a bit of a nasty night as the manager got a slightly bit irate at two guests when he found out what they had come as..

i know i’ll get hissed at by the hardcore bikers 😉

but this is my 5p worth… about 5 years ago i sold the car and got a motorbike for 18 months to save money before the little one came along.

(after talking to my brother who is a long term biker)

i did my CBT and bought a Honda Varadero 125, all the gear.

and if im being honest i hated every minute of it and will never forget the day i got shot of it!

i was totally invisible to 90% of other motorists, riding in the rain was a nightmare.

luckily i never had a crash but i came close on many occasions due to idiots on the road, oh and a wet man hole cover which was my fault.

the only advice i would give is dont rely on the CBT alone it’s b*lox, in my eyes it does not give you anywhere enough training to hit the road and i would suggest doing the full monty access course then decide as others have said.

i think i just wasnt cut out to be a biker as i think you do need a bigger set of b*lls which if im honest i didnt have!

i still cringe when im in the car and see a 125 with L plates on flying along..

best of luck whatever you decide!

mate has a mazda 5, its bland but the sliding doors are brilliant. (i think the NEW smax has sliding doors?)

but if it was me i’d get the s-max hands down, as internally i think its bigger and more kit especially if you get the titanium.

i read this with much interest…

we have decided NOT to have another, im 40 and wife is 41.

we simply couldnt afford too have another and it would be detriment to our 5 year old daughter.

some have said we are totally selfish, but i think we are just realistic.

no offence to anybody on here as i know this can be a cagey subject.

i see so many children at my daughters school who are in morning and aftenroon club. i just dont see the point as they cannot see their children much at all.

i am fortunate that im off some days in the week and take my daughter to school and pick her up alot.

(again not directed at anyone on here so please dont take offence)

but the amount of pressure and people saying “ooh you should have another!” – “when you having another etc”

i dont for one second think a single child turns out any different to one with siblings.

infact i think ‘within reason’ we can give/help our daughter out in the future with a car/house etc if needed, where as if we had another we wouldnt be able to help as much.

i know a friend of a friend who has 6 kids, they struggle all the time with money but he said he wouldnt change it for the world, so i guess it’s each to his/her own.

i must admit i do think, my god what if somehting happend to our daughter we would have no children but i guess you cant walk round thinking that every day.

i dont know what im trying to say really…..

Just had a quick check, no visible signs of a plastic bag or anything stuck anywhere. You can see the Cambelt from the front of the engine it is intact.

Turned ignition on normal lights appear started her up and it ticked over fine!?

Going to take it for a short spin first thing.

she said it cut out totally, she coasted into the close and just about pulled over.

she restarted it then it seemed fine and parked outside the house but as she knocked it out of gear it cut out again.

could be a belt i guess as none of them have been replaced and its done 75k!

Unless you had the lid off the air box and the filter out, I can’t see how it could get near the air intake and that’s before you figure out how it managed to get from the road surface to the top side of the engine

cheers, thats what i was kind of thinking.

    waihiboy

cheers for replies, as far as i can remember the air intake is right behind the grille and is quite small so id be shocked if a bag got up inside there?

bag wrapped around the fan? but it would just take ages to overheat then cut out?

    cheers all,

some good ideas, especially the box section across the inside of the garage door.

the garage does have a crap wooden door to the side which walks out onto the path where the new wooden fence is but its in hell of a state. again i know a chap who can get half decent secondhand upvc doors and windows but i know the door panels can be kicked in.

i guess in part it comes down to what we need the space for, i dont think im going to go full hog an insualte and have a mancave etc.

i do fettle with th ecars so it would be nice to drive in and do it in comfort and i do want to get a track day/fixer upper one day (not that the wife knows)

yeah ive seen a few people on here leave the garage door and brick up on the inside.

thats the thing, work out exactly what we want to do with it, limited funds to start off with. would be nice to have a man cave, pool table etc haha but would have to spend a fair bit on security.

for me there were certain milestones..

the jump from spectrum to amiga

the jump from amiga to ps1

to be honest were spoilt now and most games dont have the playability of the old days, yes i have rose tinted specs on but very few games of late have made we go WOW!!

    apart from

    The last GTA
    The uncharted series
    And assasins creed blackflag

In fairness i dont think ill upgrade the ps3 to a ps4

    omg..

Some great calls there. Cutting off heads in Barbarian had to be one of the most satisfying moves in gaming, the goblin booting the head off screen was just the cherry on top.

    totally forgot about that!!

    epic series!

i was sceptical but a friend kept on to me, it was great and there were hardly any ‘filler episodes’.

im defo in the camp of waiting until a series it out on boxset etc as it’s far easier to get into and enjoy.

after working in IT for 5 years i went travelling in new zealand.

when the cash was low i walked into the nearest job agency and got signed up for any manual labour work.

i ended up working for P&O Cold storage, basically i would put on a freezer suit walk into huge climate controlled room. a forklift would appear and dump a 20 or 40ft shipping container about an inch from my face.

i would then open it and walk to the end, then another forklift would turn up with a cradle full of 25kg boxes of frozen lamb.

i then had to manually stack them 7 high until the container was full.

i lasted 3 months to be fair and to be honest it was the hardest job mentally and physically ive ever done but i met some of the most mental people in my life.

i still cringe when i see a shipping container..

this christmas will be far quieter than last year…

last christmas one of my evil sister in laws slapped my wife on the doortsep so my wife floored her.

i missed it all but the MIL witnessed it, they havent spoken to the SIL since. she is a bitter twisted evil c*w!

the FIL is mental and i get on great with him he has a very dark sense of humour like me. i still laugh about the time i found a PDF on his laptop of how to make a homemade rocket launcher!!!???… i questioned it and he replied.. “you never know mate, you never know!!”

Thanks for posting this OP, the wife finally gave in and is allowing me to have a dog for my 40th next year…which will be a whippet!

    However….

I am in the get a rescue dog about a year old club.

I can see the appeal of a puppy but i dont really want to go through all the initial hassle (being 100% honest) and from a personal point of view love the idea of saving a dog and giving him/her a new home

BUT i know this can have problems aswell.

    Its a huge decision regardless.

    Best of luck

Ps most of the negative points about them is running off etc as already said, but im going to get a gps collar for when we go offroad. Has anyone used them or have i just been sucked in
