So how come the ice caps are melting then? Ice is zero or below celcius, the ice caps I believe are fresh water, not salt. Salt water freezes at below zero degrees and doesn't water even out at four degrees celcius once the top is frozen and so fishes and penguins can carry on swimming.

As for water evaporating below 100 degrees celcius, wtf has that got to do with ice melting below freezing point?

I know jack sh1t about cause and effect of global warming, however, one thing that troubles me is how can the ice caps be melting when the temperature at said ice caps never gets above 0 celcius?

Why do we accept the current over inflated prices for said established mechs? £180 for X-0 rear mech, would like to see the justification on that.

Raw materials have increased but not that much, haven't seen the price of aluminium Jags and Audis increasing by 60% and it's the same raw materials.

I love the whole thing, time off with friends and family, always have family round on Christmas Day, kids are now 10 and 12 and as far as we can tell still believe in it all, can't wait for it, really hoping we can get some wintery weather for the day too, even if that is just a good frost to wake up to. As always I respect everyone's right to have an opinion, I just may not agree with yours, that's one of the things that makes life interesting.

Heart goes out to those above that have anniversaries around that time of year that need reflecting upon rather than celebrating.

Another bit of news for those with diabetes, can't find the link at the mo but on msn there is a story of a type of tattoo that changes colour dependant on your blood glucose level, they are hoping it will put a stop to the pin prick blood testing that we have to do, only requires a small area to be tattoo'd. Testing has been good on mice so far, not yet tried it on humans.

Dick – the 4.5 to 6.0 is the norm for people without diabetes. My target range is 5.0 to 7.8.

The 'I have diabetes' ' I am diabetic' thing is something that has cropped up in our house since my son was diagnosed, being referred to as a diabetic has not helped him adjust to coping with it, makes him feel like he is different, whereas, him having diabetes does not. We have had quite a problem with him suffering at school as he is the only child with diabetes and kids can be b4stards without realising it. He is currently on multi injections but has a saline trial with a pump later this month, hope he gets his pump approved as it would be a lot better for him. I have a pump and it is a doddle to do a bolus or a correction without any one batting an eyelid, much less conspicuous than having to inject in your stomach or thigh.

hit a tree not looking where I was going, messing with my rear light going down a lane, mayhem grassy right hand down hill bend, like many both wheels slipped from under me, landed on my right arm tucked in to my side, last one carrying lots of speed on a night ride along a flowy piece of singletrack (caravan in the wyre for those that know it) clipped a tree stump with my front wheel, wheel off ground still when I reached the next bend so hit another stump, bike flew away to my right I supermanned to the left and sixteen stone at 20+mph landed on my left side on tree roots about 200mm in diameter. easy to see how 1 and 3 could have been avoided, 2 I put down to just one of those things, think 3 would benefit from tuition by someone such as your self.

In a similar position myself, 2yrs ago hit a tree and still suffering with left shoulder issues, last year fell off on my first lap at mayhem and broke 2 ribs, op on shoulder in July, back on bike early september, bad stack start of october, 6 fractured ribs, torn intercostals, left lung swollen and full of fluid, 6 weeks on and I am about to venture back out on the bike tonight for a few flat gentle miles around the local lanes/towpath. Had a lot of time to think about this and have come to the conclusion I can generally hold my own on the flat and downs with those that I ride with but not on the ups, therefore to improve I need to shed some weight to go uphill quicker and also get some skills training so that I am more consistant with my riding. Always enjoy riding my bike so no worries there

So your doc didn't do a blood glucose reading there and then? When my son was diagnosed last year I did a BG at home (also type 1 diabetes sufferer for the last 33yrs) and it was 27.2 mmol/l, went to docs he did one that was 24.3 mmol/l and my son was admitted to hospital the following day to start treatment.

Both the above BG's are very high for those that are not familiar, 4.5 to 6.0 are the norm for none diabetes sufferers, have a bit of an issue with being referred to as diabetics, rather be referred to as someone with diabetes, much like many other people who have disabilities.

Button as No 2 to Hamilton? Wondered why Hamilton was having a pop at Jensen in the press at the w/e. Rosberg and Heidfeld at Mercedes, finally get to see if these guys can live up to their perceived abilities (assuming the Brawn, sorry Merc GP car is any good next year). Kimi off to WRC? Renault, will they pull out? Kubica and Barrichello, where for them now?

    Steve,

hopefully picking bike up from Mick this weekend, then will venture out along towpath next week to see how the lung/intercostals bear up to higher breath rate, not going to risk FOD next weekend as that will be too much, probably another 2 weeks before proper off road ride as long as I don't fall in the cut 8O

Budget may be flexible as he has his birthday and chrimbo in the same month, he has asked for money from everyone for both so he can buy one himself, budget based on rough guess of how much he will get from relatives. he wants one because they are cool and for riding round town with a bit of park/street riding.

am aware of such issues, his current BMX is one from Halfords and the brakes on it are desperate, luckily he weighs next to nothing so they stop him, when I rode it I went straight in to the garage door

We have never done the pocket money thing but to help teach our kids the value of money etc we are going to open accounts for them both where we will pay the child allowance (well some of it) in, then they can use it like pocket money but will have to save for bigger things etc, they can then buy their own clothes (we will get uniforms etc). Anyone else do this or similar?
