Thanks for the replies, with stem length factored in and seat angle the length difference feels minimal it is the lowness of the Nicolai….which I wanted to try as it may have helped in essence closer and lower.

So is it stack heights need to understand?

Decathlon m 500 jacket with pit zips…..it is the pit zips on any jacket that will help massively with breathability.

So I would add in, as the doctor has to have edge, Eccleston and tenner exuded the danger and sometimes cruelty of the doctor, so

Robert Lindsay….just a brilliant actor and slightly funny menacingly odd
Suzanne Jones….been in two doctor who, well Sarah jones chronicles and Dr who, again you can believe the dark side.

Wearing old stuff now but find that it is surprising old and generally not waterproof on the case of coats,so needs replacing hence recommendation.

Wearing jeans, well wet and cold and being miserable is something I am not fond of, being on a fell and Moor for a couple of hours a day is something more than a pootle round the park so white vest out for a month or two till weather gets better.

Overthinking… Possibly but this is stw and many bike items get overthink I would suggest😁

    Bike one
    Magic Mary front 29 X 2.6
    Hans dampf rear 29 X 2.4

    Bike 2
    Magic Mary front 29 X 2.6
    Spesh eliminator 27.5 X 2.6

    Bike 3
    Hillbilly 29 X 2.6
    Eliminator 29 X2.6

Close call between hillbilly and Magc Mary…. possibly Mary as all rounder
    Eliminator rear.

Two pairs of skychasers in the house, both ripped or delamination at the bunion joint, one pair done less than 100 miles other pair around 150, Adidas not great customer service, offered us a 20% discount but no refund or exchange as they were no longer stocked…meaning the colour scheme had changed.
Shame as good on rock and excellent in the mud. Cushioning good enough.

Neil, no worries and thanks for the reply.
Package arrived and on inspection really pleased with the quality of the headset, well machined and looks well sealed.
Bought a hub which looks brilliant and a chainring so all good.

    Hello,
as OP I posted a request for information and review on a product; was that based on and informed by
    a) past reviews and forum talk – yes
    b) personal experience – yes. As a family we bought things back in the day and they were not great, other like a handlebar was fantastic.
    c) I wanted other peoples experiences to make a informed and balanced decision. E.g the tolerance maybe tight so put it in the freezer – ok will do that good advice.

Risk – maybe I should have defined that but I would say I am not a serial parts buyer and I do consider buying parts that will not last ‘x’ period of time worthwhile if cost is ‘y’.
So I will not buy shimano brakes as in my experience they cannot be repaired and prefer Hope for that reason.
I have only a £100 order with superstar but to me that is a lot of cash, going on something that will be used and enjoyed by someone else, so I have a fiscal and emotional investment in the purchase. another element of risk.

I want to support local shops and businesses and on this build where ever possible I have tried to do that.

Neal@superstar I really appreciate you have answered and taken the time to be on here, it is something I value about the mountain bike world that you can speak to business CEO- so thanks for the update on my order,

Vondally your headset will no doubt be going out today. Any probs just email rather than start a decade long troll war please. I’m sure you will love it

I agree with Stumpy01 re how you may wished to have approached the reply Neal, as I have said above i value the buying local and supporting uk manufacturing where I can, I would like to have heard the positives, I get the frustration as Stumpy points out but in the reply you ask me to email ( which I will do ) but refrain from a troll war. My intention was never to start a troll war nor to create a future one however I will comment and post on my experience – hopefully good and wonderful- but I have that prerogative without it being seen as a troll war or comment.

I look forward to the order arriving.

    Cheers

Try Microshift cassette , 10 speed 11-48, the one that arrived at our house looks well made and a good price.
SRAM cassette above is fab though, on several bikes in the household, stood up well to things and a good spread of gears.

Mr potato head….lol..but there is a bit more…honest….

Older bikes have a shorter geometry and taller head tube, hopefully more sit up and beg…. Possibly..

Cost…I have a couple of good bikes Stooge and Nicolai but stooge is rigid and geomtron is long but reasonable upright due to seat position…I could skinny tire that but not really.

Jones bars ….tried some copies titec, did not get on with them…tried stooge Moto bars as well. Will revisit.

Re bars….not a fan of drops but was recommended to try as more hand positions….flat bars and bar ends possibly some stubbie ones in the middle may be a compromise.

Hoka wearer here and found them unsupportive and not great on anything, firetracks and rocks meh, mud lethal.

Inov8 tried and found them flat (heel drop) and poorly made.

Adidas skychaser brilliant ideas light, grippy sole with lugs and good on moor or fell BUT we have three pairs delaminate on the crease across your foot.

Salomon xa pro …ok done a few big days in them including dales three peaks but rings grip rubbish in mud.

I am not a big fan of heavy boots or shoes so do like the whole lightweight boot shoe, try Kong sports in keswick.

Tend not to post after the rugby thread and other thread descended into mudslinging and just not worth engagement or reading.

So I look at this area like a pub, just moved from the main bar where it is all kicking off the the taproom or snug for a quiet chat and let the landlord/lady how things are going, and I can wander back to main room if I want.

I quite like the idea of this forum.

Turners in this household from a v2 burner, xce, rfx( still my favourite),hl flux dw five dw flux, rfx andtwo Sultans. SO turner is still used and we bought it 1998.
The joy for me was having a bike that could climb and still descend, worked in the mud and were robust. Some of my fondest memories of riding a bike are related to Turners, especially with family.
Still a fan and still hope for a new fs from Mr Turner.
I wished I kept my rfx, fantastic bike and at the same time I owned a litespeed kitsuma- I count myself lucky.

Edit That is a great post from DT, agree with a lot re the connection of the trail and a short travel fs would be ideal.
