Looks like it will be an expensive trip to TF next week then. It feels the same to ride for now so I’m riding it this weekend.

    Lesson learned.

Well for a start mine didn’t come from TFtuned.

I was putting in the specfic CC tune for my bike (spitfire)

If I turned it all the way clockwise I did feel the resistance, so stopped. However turning the other way, counter-clockwise there was no resistance at all and eventually it just popped off!

There was no warning either, it just popped off. it was difficult in the beginning anyway as sometimes it would click and then it wouldn’t, so I was left wondering how many adjustments I had made, if that makes sense?

I can understand not going too far the other way as it just stops, which is fair enough.

yes they have mate, I’m just worried I’ve f****d the low speed rebound on mine, because it doesn’t click anymore.

Well just had the 2nd test ride and have ordered a Large raw spitfire frame!

Does anyone know if X fusion sweep will take 26″ wheels? Was recommended them as an alternative to pikes.

    Cheers.

Think I will either go for the alpinestars or bluegrass. Probably more of a case of which one fits better I think.

Ive pretty much convinced myself that if my 2nd demo of the bike goes well Im buying one, Im going to swapping everything I have now over so 26″ and 150mm revs. Im hoping this wont alter the geo? I would love pikes but I just cant afford them.

Just booked a demo for 18th Oct on the spitfire. Looking forward to it.

Mike, you might find the Rune a little short too. I was surprised. Maybe I miss read, but I thought the effective TT was a lot longer than my Heckler? It doesnt feel too much longer, just a little. I certainly dont have so much weight over the front though. Front wheel doesnt feel like it wants to wash out on corners. Also riding with seat up, I dont feel perched on top, like I did on the Heckler.- I was in Afan on Friday…if only you’d known!

Thought I recognized the blade trail sign in your pic!

I know what you mean with the heckler, even after slackening HA to 67ish, it still feels im on top of the bike.

Looking at the geo charts the rune is a tiny bit smaller than the spitfire by 5mm so not much.

I think the answer for me here is I have to try them both dont I? 🙂

Id be running it with 26inch wheels and forks if I got one to keep costs down.

The spitfire is probably the sensible choice. Im going to demo it again soon. I like my bike to feel quite poppy.

I like my hecker but its just too small even as a large.

If anyone is in south wales and wants to let me have a go on their rune… 😀

    Just to test ofcourse!

Can I ask why you decided on the rune? extra travel?

Think im going to test both. but as Ive got a DH bike for uplift days the spitfire would prob be the better choice, maybe! 😀

The rune looks amazing. I think I will try and demo them both before deciding.

    Thanks, will contact him.

I know they can take 26″ wheels, can they take 26″ forks? I would save a lot of money if I could transfer everything from my heckler if I did decide to buy one.

Also, can it take a 150mm fork?

I rode one of these at a demo day this weekend. I wasn’t even looking for a new bike. I couldn’t believe how well it climbed to be honest, was very nice going down also. I think I may get one.

One thing that really does put me off though is the pivot bearings and how there is no protection from the elements of UK riding for 6-8 months of the year. Any slop from the back wheel will go flying into pivots and surely destroy bearings pretty quickly. Coming from a heckler this is a concern.

    Thoughts?

Will do, just noticed theres oil coming up from the floodgate/lockout cap. Im guessing thats where the damper is located?

Superfli – Did the CD case not snap, it feels like it would? Assume we are taking about a standard case?

I’ve got a DHX5 coil on an Iron horse Sunday I’ve just got. there is a lot of tuning/set up to do on them!

    volatilemike

Yep mine is just lockout and rebound, nothing else. I’ve always left it open whether its fire-road climbs or whatever.

@superfli – what plastic did you use for the mod? Im going to try this first at the same as doing a service on it.

    @chakaping – yeah Heckler is 150 travel.

Had a look at the other CCDB coil and air but cant stretch to paying 500 odd quid for a shock.

maybe push tuning the Float RL is the cheapest and best way forward.

I’m sure I heard the inline wouldn’t be suitable for my weight as I’m 6ft, about 90kg kitted up probably.

My shock is very basic. Its either to stiff or blows through its travel to easily.

I dont know if its worth getting my current shock PUSH tuned?

    Its the rookie track ^^^

Y wall is still a great descent, so its worth doing.

I find Penhydd rubbish. Dont enjoy it all but thats just me, blade is very good if a decent amount of climbing!

revolution bike park is great, about 50 miles from where you would be though. 🙁

I’m going up to watch the bds, I’m in 2 minds about taking my bike though. Probably wont and just have some beers. There is no on site parking either so you need to take that into consideration.

Only sixtapod to willywaver and wibbly wobbly to rim dinger are open everything else is closed. So I probably wouldn’t want to pay for a pass and only be able to ride those trails, up to you though!

They are Burgtec Ti ones, not sure but I think 3mm offset? Im not sure though, Supposed to be 1 degree change. Having said that, looking at the shock length its definately shorter so I guess they have worked.

I know the phone apps aren’t exactly reliable?

Them seem fine. Thanks guys. I have to say visibly I cant tell a difference, and the head angle app on my phone hasn’t changed much, if at all. Guess the proof will be in the riding?

I cant get the old bushings out at the moment. is it ok I leave the old ones in while I take it for a test ride tonight? then change them over tomorrow or something?

    volatilemike

Ah, ive just realised the reason why the du bushes wont fit is because the old ones are still in the shock!

Anyway here is a pic of the items, as im still not sure where the o rings go.

    Thanks!

If you do Brechfa, don’t make the mistake of missing out on the final descent of the Blue (derwen) trail. Seriously fast fun.

Well I’m actually looking to buy this bike for Whistler next year 😀 as I need a DH bike for the bike park. I could always get one when I get over there but I would like to ride it for a while before I go over there and get used to a DH bike.

Still its an excuse to go there this year aswell as next year!

I used that site. got quoted 1300 quid, So it pretty much is not worth it conisidering the cost of the bike would be another £1000 on top. Probably cheaper to get a flight a bring it back myself! 😯

    Thanks for the replys!

I think my friends want to do the bike park mostly, so in that sense it would make more sense for them to bring their DH bikes.

Jonny – you are probably right price wise, its probably better to book with you guys even if we didnt do much of the XC stuff or guiding because when you factor in everything, its still a decent price.

The bike is the main thing, at the end of the day I need a bike that will be the most enjoyable for me. I dont want to be under biked for the bike park and then having to end up renting a bike for most days costing a bomb. Perhaps the idea of getting a used 2nd hand DH bike and bringing it over, then selling when I get back is the best idea?

    Travel lodge – city centre

Premier Inn – 1 in city centre, 1 near waterfront (SA1)about 5 mins walk from each other

The Village which is also on the waterfront, wont be cheap though.

The Dragon Hotel – city centre

    Hope this helps

    Mike
