Doubt there are many people at the BBC standing up for keeping a car show hosted by three native white men running really.

The accounting dept probably are! It’s a big earner…

Jar of curry heated in a saucepan for 3-4 minutes bag of micro rice in micro for 2 minutes and cooked prawns in sauce at the same time. prawn curry in 6 minutes with no prep and one pot to wash.

That counts as proper cooking for me, and about the max amount of effort I’d ever be prepared to spend on cooking

The most likely reason you might get an alert is in connection with something important which might affect you, such as an out of control fire near you which is releasing toxic fumes, for example.

Or more likely, a missing person alert. And, yes, I’ve had multiple alerts of this type…

What advantages do you feel that you are giving yourself by switching off the alerts……. saving the massive inconvenience to your life of very occasionally, perhaps never, recieving a 10 second alert on your phone?

    A good night’s sleep?

Having been woken up in the middle of the night by completely irrelevant, screeching alert messages related to “events” (or, more accurately, non-events) many 100km away on more than one occasion, the authorities here can f++k right off as they can’t be trusted to understand what a “proportionate” response is…

This thread is a timely reminder to switch ALL “emergency” alerts off on my newish phone. Thanks

You must be very sensitive to this!

FWIW, I’ve been riding for over 30 years and can’t say I’ve ever detected variations in Q factor in any of the bikes I’ve ridden…

(Mark Webber is still as thick as the back of an axe tho 😂)

Would that be the same Mark Webber who got Oscar Pistorius into this year’s McLaren rather than staying at Alpine? Haha 😂😂😂

    Seems like a (pre-2023!) Alonso-level career move…

Got some flights to Toulouse booked for early June. Plan is to head over to the Med for some beach time then down to Girona for a few days then into the Central Pyrenees & Luchon then back to Toulouse.

I’m dithering about whether to take the gravel bike or road bike…

Anyone here use F1TV to watch races? I know you can’t stream live but was wondering how quickly they’re available to view afterwards?

I did towards the end of the 2021 season but not last year. Can’t remember what the lag was BUT you might be able to use a VPN to pretend your in a country which allows streaming…

Yeah, Horner is a complete and utter cock

He and Alonso seem to be vying for the role of pantomime villain. I can’t figure out whether Horner has thrown out all semblance of dignity to ham it up for Netflix or he really is a complete tosser.
Thing is, take Horner and Verstappen out of the equation and you have to admire Red Bull as a team as their implementation is superb and their in race strategy is usually audacious and invariably successful

Probably don’t need to tell anyone that the new Drive to Survive is on NF now.

Still the top-tier sports docudrama, though I reckon that Gunther bloke is lining up a post-F1 career in panto.

Just binge watched it over last two evenings. Definitely straying further into “reality TV” realm. They must have got some very powerful mics to pick up on some of the supposedly private/candid conversations, unless the production company just dubbed the content for entertainment purposes…

I’ve done this on R7000 105 and it worked fine. SS to GS cage.

    Interesting…

Did you put a wider range cassette on, or change chainrings (or both)?

The parallelogram is the same as it moves across the same space/cogs

The mechanic was saying that the arc that some derailleurs moves through is/can be different if the derailleur is intended to be used with a close ratio cassette vs a wide ratio cassette, which sounds plausible but maybe he’s thinking “marginal losses”!

Anyway, he said not all derailleurs are optimized like this…so I have no idea whether it’s a problem for my derailleur or how to confirm one way or another, and I have no idea whether I’d even notice…

(For the record, I’m not a racer nor a particularly clumsy rider so not likely to make hurried gear changes under my full, awesome power 😄)

Came here thinking that a doctor had a good news public service announcement!

Anyway, I’ve been getting an annual prostrate exam and MY doctor didn’t mention anything about not cycling beforehand BUT I’m guessing that that’s not a PSA test…

What does a PSA test involve? Is it ‘just’ a blood test??

Alonso may, for once, have moved to a better team.

Which suggests Alpine are probably trying a little bit harder than everyone else to get a good time…😆😆

Nice day out, good scenery and he didn’t use a car. All sounds good to me

No doubt, but is it newsworthy? Or even worthy of posting on STW? Or worthy of me being arsed to open a thread about it and even write this reply?!?

Our mutt is insured with Pet Plan. We’ve had him for 4 years and monthly premiums are now 2.5 times the first year. However, he’s got a couple of allergies plus a heart murmur so is on permanent medication and 3 echo cardiograms per year.

All told, if we’d self-insured, we’d probably be a few hundred a year better off paying for his existing treatment so the way I look at is, those few hundred a year is pretty damn cheap insurance should any major surgery be needed or new illnesses occur…

I let my missus worry about this sort of shit. She knows there’s no hope in hell of me ever attending a christening so I leave the option of her going solo, or concocting an appropriate excuse/lie for me/both of us not attending.

The one time I made an exception was for a really good friend but I stood outside the church for the actual ceremony (I wasn’t the only one! IIRC, even my mates father was outside the church having a crafty fag during the ceremony…)

My take on this is I am openly anti-religious (of ANY flavour) and I’m not a hypocrite so if anyone gets offended by my “non-appearance”, then it’s them being insensitive about my feelings so not my problem 😄😄

    https://bike.shimano.com/en-EU/product/component/ultegra-r8050-di2/RD-R8050-SS.html

There’s a part list with an exploded diagram but I’m not entirely certain that the cage is interchangeable, so a trip to my LBS may be needed…though I guess, it might be less expensive (or at least easier) to just replace both chain rings as I won’t need to change the cassette

    vlad_the_invader

What’s going on at the other end? Are you at max capacity of your rear mech for your cassette already?

Theoretically, yes, I’m at max capacity already (11-30 11 speed). I *think* I’ve got a R8050-SS rear derailleur though I can’t see any markings on it to confirm it is short cage rather than medium cage (R8050-GS).

The cage seems to be around ~73mm between pulley wheel axles. No idea how to confirm whether that is short or medium cage…

Just thinking aloud, is it possible to change the inner and outer cages to switch it to medium cage, giving me more capacity?

    vlad_the_invader

If you leave it in the same place to cover the big ring, then my suspicion is that the chain will drag on the mech (the horizontal plate at the rear ofbthe mech) when in certain gears when using the small front ring.

Yeah, good point. I’m guessing this isn’t a viable permanent solution though I’m intending this to be a temporary solution for a holiday in the mountains where I’m likely to also be using the biggest cog of the cassette so maybe the chain won’t drag in the small ring/big cog combo…

I guess it’s a cheap option to try out (cheaper than a new cassette and obviously cheaper than replacing both chain rings)

It might be more prudent just to buy a compact chainset and sell the one you have

Unfortunately (?) no as it’s also got a dual sided crank arm power meter…

I suppose when it comes time to replace the outer chain ring, I’ll do both at the same time and put on a 50/34 combo.

I notice that there are several apps in the Google Play Store when searching for ChatGPT but I’m not seeing anything specifically by OpenAI.

So, can STW recommend a specific Android AI chat app or should I just use it via a browser?

There’s a related podcast on BBC sounds about one of the main villains which is worth listening to. Gangster.

    Yep, worth a listen.

Binged all six episodes. Certainly entertaining but almost certainly not realistic…and who gives a shit about the slightly wrong model year cars really?
