it was definitely too big on the reba….but then I was trying to basically AM+ a XC bike 🙂

I personally love the Ardents, a love it or hate it tyre for sure. The 2.4 is miles better than the 2.25 as its side knobs are much more aggressive.
Its still a Jesus tyre though….as in you have to lean it so far over to grip that you are praying to jesus the damn thing grabs or else you will be eating dirt.
It slides beautifully so two wheel drifts are everywhere and it rolls fast. Its not a tyre if you like to mince around and not fully committing into corners and getting the tyre onto its edge. There isnt much nobbling going on between edge and centre knobs so tends to feel vague unless fully leaned.

I loved it but many hate it. Its fast and sketchy….just how I like it 🙂

I have a set of Eason havens in carbon here which I’ve been thinking of letting go as i don’t really have room for the second bike as doing more DH now. Absolutely perfect, in boxes etc and would be in your budget. You can’t do better IMHO.

Stop worrying and just ride it. Mine’s been through all sorts of crap in the last 12months and been absolutely fine. RS know a thing or two about seals and are capable of keeping the crud out. Do you run bits of inner tube over your fork stanchions, I guess not? 😉

:roll-eyes: Its worth checking in here to read the Dilbert-esque posts. Singletrack, more like Stupidtrack.

I recall gifts are capped at £36 as well or subject to usual charges as above. The price to ship a frame was high, actually cheaper to fly and collect!

CRC have advised I cancel my order and replace it to guarantee rapid delivery….although that would mean I would loose my xmas50 discount voucher! Why cant they just go and pick up the bloody stuff beats me.

One Oder two weeks plus old and still processing
Another order placed Sunday night shipped immediately.

Chased multiple times and would cancel but I want my Xmas50 code so have to wait.

18 bikes sorted me out for a trip last year. Good guys who delivered and collected with no fuss.

Welcome to the pain of Specialized! I get mine form the USA and take cheap breaks out there….SEMA in Vegas coincides with new year models as it happens. Just picked up my 2012 SXT 🙂

Our riding styles sound similar,I’m 220lbs and have had good luck with Easton havocs. No hub issue and the rims are stronger than havens (I broke a carbon rim). Crossmax sx are strong too but if they don’t work I guess you are right that what you want doesn’t exist and you need to go to a heavier DH rim like a Deemax Ultimate.

CCDB – transformed the bike. Depends on your style of riding if its a benefit or just a chunk of extra weight and cost.

assuming you mean the top of the steerer is 6mm below the top of the stem then I wouldnt risk it.
It really needs to be clearly above the top of the top bolt hence the 3mm recommendation.
The risk if this critical part fails is pretty nasty….not worth it IMHO.

2012 models comes with an external collar that limits travel. Should be possible to fit to a older model.

Absolutely love this shock…..two years on it fettling and testing on two different bikes has helped me learn a lot about bike suspension dynamics and how to set suspension up. I’d ride it standard for a good few miles before you tinker, get to know how it’s base settings ride…….and understand the low and high speed circuits aren’t completely and wholy truly independent, there is a balance that needs to be understood to optimise the settings. The thing is a piece of engineering beauty IMHO. it just keeps getting better and better with age 🙂
None of it is magic, as some guys said above, when you feel ready start to experiment one dial at a time in small increments and write everything down so you can get back to the last known good position.

Get a new hose kit for £15, google will find it in stock somewhere. I just changed mine out. 30 minute job.

One thing I find is that the fork really blows me away once I really start pinning it downhill. Has an almost magic carpet feel to it where it’s floating but yet providing way more grip than any other fork I’ve ridden on. It’s kind of a surreal feeling actually and I’m sure any rider would notice it to when they hit that magic velocity. Below this magic speed I think it’s less differentiating from it’s competitors. I’ve done a bit of rallying and hill climbing in my past and this feeling ive also found with really good car setups too. It’s the first time I experienced it on a bike is with a Bos fork.

It’s not a fork I’d go out ofmy way to run on a huck machine hitting 12ft drops, I’m sure it can take them given an appropriate level of rider skill but there are better tools for that job IMHO (although I’d be keen to try an idyll vs a boxxer/40 now too!)

As much as I lve superstar components generally, the brake hose kits are pretty poor compared to offiicial formula kits.
You loose the easy bleed screws, hose feels way cheaper (well, it is!)…..just not worth it IMHO.

I’ve owned both and prefer the enduro, it’s a more playful bike IMHO.
Easier to haul round tight switchbacks and easier to flick about in the air. The spicy is more stable feeling though.
Next years spicy will move more towards the enduro in handling due to lower bb and shorter chainstays.

Lapiere bug me as they won’t sell a frame set but only full builds which I didn’t want.

Both great bikes though and you can’t go wrong with either but they do different things, ultimately depends what and how you ride. Should be possible to get test rides easy enough.

just to be clear- that was fit, not supply at £4750. It was close to £9k with supply of Howdens units.

Im running my Enduro in its more DH orientated spec with 170mm Devilles up front and a tuned CCDB out rear (again, thanks to Dave at TFTuned who has been helping with this small (ahem!) engineering exercise)

Got a Bos Vip’r in the works to run for the less DH riding with a lighter wheelset. The Devilles are the best forks out there by a significant margin in my experience.

Should have been at the Mega this weekend but work has got in the way – gutted.

    im looking for same 🙂

    Im arriving 3rd July @ 10am-ish, leaving 10th @ 9pm-ish

Haven > sx IMHO andive had both. The carbon are stiffer than the ally but aren’t unbreakable 🙂
I rate the havocs very highly too….1mm wider, bigger bearings and ony 100g over havens.

Cant go wrong with any of them TBH

The carbon wheels are amazing, I had been running a pair for 6 months before moving to the Easton havocs which are equally awesome…..and stronger at a few hundred gramme penalty.

My place has just hired in some MBA’s who don’t know their AFTE. Loads of acronymz…..even referred to their past employer by their stock ID……I think it’s to cover up they know SFA 🙂

AFTE – arse from their elbow

Don’t logs just cause the majority of riders to round round them causing further trail erosion?

I learned from zero…..took a while to get it dialled. Best advice is take your time and don’t be afraid to experiment.
Start at stock settings and adjust as per manual making notes along the way.
I thought I had mine dialled and after 6 months went back to standard to check and was surprised I preferred it back at stock. I tweaked from there again and ended up somewhere much different but ultimately better.

On a four bar frame ran ran just enough lsc to prevent peddle strikes and enough LSr to prevent it bobbing. 8/12 clicks respectfully rings a bell.
Hsc I ran as open as I could, think it was about 3/4 of turn from full open and hsr about 1.5 turns.
    Preload minimum.

Awesome shock and even better when you get to know it.

Miss it badly now I’m back on air.

I moved from lyric coil DH forks to devilles @ 160mm and they are better in every way, immediately noticeable and get better with more speed – having said that my 2010 ones will be for sale very soon as I changed frame and need a longer steerer now so have ordered a new pair as cant be fussed replacing steerer on my existing ones.

having done this last year (36×11-34) -> (36×11-36) I dont think it was worth the cost. If your gear is worn out and you need to replace then do it, 10sp hasnt been any less reliable and the extra cassette range is nice, but not worth junking a perfectly good 9sp setup for IMO.

I believe so….12mm axle conversion with a 12mm axle which steps to a 10mm bolt section at each end.

No one I could find when I went to Germany.
It was easier to drive back for a weekend rather than go about getting full time insurance in Germany (France will probably be tough too I imagine)
