Locals probably got out the bunting when it stopped flying, shame though, an awesome spectacle…

nah mate – it was the highlight of the day that thing coming overhead. Everyone just stopped and watched it in awe. On the other hand the tedious drone of run of the mill jets really hacked me off personally.
Watching that thing come in to land over the M25 one day with its stick like landing gear was superb.
Reminds me of thunderbirds for some reason.

Having had a 160mm spicy and money no object carbon everything s-works enduro, IMHO, yes they are too much for local XC trails, even built light the geometry and suspension just makes for something far less optimal than a XC bike.
Building them up with stronger components and pretending they are DH bikes doesn’t cut it either. yes you can ride down Cwmcarn on one, but try riding down Cwmcarn FAST on one and you’ll find their limits way before you would on a bigger bike.
The one place they aren’t a compromise is places like the Alps for tracks like the Megavalanche.
Yes you can compromise on to riding one bike everywhere, but it ill be exactly that, a compromise.

I bought a new air to go with my pro recently, loved 802.11ac networking and the added battery life meant I treated it like a big ipad rather than a laptop. New hd4000 is 2x hd3000 from the pro and processor was ok too.
I’m looking forward to the new pro though.

wife uses one – seems happy enough watching videos on line, writing docs & email.
Bombproof quality and easy to replace anything that goes wrong – unlike macbooks!

not easily. I modded a coil DB to fit but it was a PITA adapting the standard clevises. If I did it again from scratch I’d get a set of evo links and adapt them as they provide a better mounting interface. You’d be better off just springing for a ’13 Enduro with CCDBa as standard.

agreed, you dont need >140m to have a hardcore hardtail. Its all about the geometry and suspension taking the edge off the bigger hits not doing the work for you.

PS4 better but some key differences not mentioned in this announcement could affect broad consumer opinion. Be an interesting E3 this year for sure.

Ive used the carbon havens for a couple years now and the havocs on my mini-dh bike for a year+ too. Never had any grief with them and much better than my previous crossmax’s and Stans Flow’s (in summary, I dont trust Stans tubeless, had tyres blow off in berms and landings, I do trust UST and its been bombproof for me)

Letters of intent aren’t contracts, they are letters of intent and I’m sure Gwins intent was to sign before Spec offered him tons’o’cash. Regardless of the politics, 2013 should be a great year for DH racing.

im not 100% sure but I recall reading they are custom sized so not sure easy to get hold of. Never tried though so hopefully someone else will be along with better info.

its a bit of a nightmare actually, especially with Specialized as no dealers will ship out of country for fear of specialized’s policies. Shipping is bloody expensive too so even if you can get one you have to get it back to the UK. I travel to the US fairly often so pick up in person and bring back in person, throw in a bit of US based riding as well and its a used bike. Or you can save yourself a lot of hassle and go buy one in Germany, there and back in a day and its a cheap trip too.

can be a hassle to get the spacing right to prevent chain rub. If its the first time Id be surprised if it was less than a couple of hours.

also watch out for issues with hibernate mode which can take an age to restore from if thats important for you.

It looks like the keyboard is going to feel as ‘dead’ as the iPad one albeit on a separate cover. Not sure touch typing will be possible still due to flat sheet nature of the keys, does it have haptic feedback of any sort….obviously no clicky down keys. I’m underwhelmed I think. Typical Microsoft lacking innovation still.
And as for flash, who cares really. It’s dead and it going away. If that’s Microsoft USP its weak IMHO.

I had this happen before on flow rims. Never had ad issue with UTS rims and maxxis tyres.
Crossmax sx and Easton haven/havocs been bullet proof. They hold up to jumping and dh fine.

Crossmax SX solid wheels. Very happy with my set and much better IME than Stans Flow rims when run tubeless. The newer hubs are fine too. Also look at Easton havens which I rate too – or havocs if you prefer more meat on your rim.

I was sceptical about carbon too Hora so decided to put it to the test about 18 months ago. I built a carbon Enduro with as much carbon as you could throw at it and spent the last 18 months trying to break it. Spec include havoc carbon bars, sixc carbon crank, easton carbon wheels…..only thing I managed to break was the front haven when I took it for a blast down Aston hill. Other than that its been perfect and hasnt skipped a beat. Compared to the Aluminium Enduro I had previous to that for a short while, the carbon is a stiffer frame which I find helps hold lines when on the ragged edge. The fact is a few hundred grammes lighter wasnt much of an issue TBH. Certainly no trouble trusting carbon in my mind now.

Here’s the wheel which failed safely and continued to hold air (tubeless)

and the bike…looking a bit tatty now but still in one piece (this is with the havoc wheels I used whils the havens were away being replaced under warranty)

It’s pretty obvious when TRC is on as the fork ramps massively, if you can’t detect the difference then you must be insensitive to fork settings and I would recommend you stick to default settings which are close to spot on in my experience. My manual has it the wrong way round too but its obvious when you ride them.
I do find that they are a harder than other forks and really perform there best when being ridden hard. For pootling around they aren’t ultra plush coping with bumps but nail them fast over roots and what not and they are awesome. I tired dropping air pressure to make hem softer but they just loose their composure and become prone to dive.
After a couple of years on them I’m now back to running standard pressure, a couple of clicks more LSC and a click or two less HSC. TRC was never turned on and I found pretty useless as most of my riding is downwards.
Edit: looks like mrplow and I run similar compression settings but I run less sag at 20%.

Hey Dean, it was me you were riding with yesterday when you crashed. Not surprised to hear you are feeling a bit rough this morning, it was a pretty quick smash, I would guess a bit quicker than 20mph though.
Don’t let the crash affect your confidence, your basic technique was fine but next time wait until the bike lands before you try to turn the corner! if you had hit it with less speed you would have landed in time to settle the bike and get round the bend for the next jump. Drop me a Pm when you are heading over next time and I’ll show you some smaller stuff to build some confidence on.

Get some updated pics up too so we can see the bruising!

Can someone pass a message to SteveJ @ Dirt that his STW account has been hacked, the message posted under his account on page 2 of this thread was understandable!

I’m a fan of his crazed ramblings….more challenging than that Soduku nonsense and some worth when you decode the original message.

I also think he’s wrong on the 50mm stems, I wouldn’t be seen dead on a 50mm ‘XC’ stem and refuse to run anything longer than 35mm now.

Just hope to get job done and get the hell out of here before it drops further.
