I fear the Lakes won’t be warm enough also they state water resistent as opposed to waterproof.

Saying that I’d prefer the boa closer on the lake.

    Nice boot though!

Yes seen them on Mantel – whilst £107 would be nice if they work well I’m happy to pay £178.

I’d rather wear just a thin pair of Merino sock as I imagine the liner will be very warm as it is.

Time to place an order I think!

    Thanks all

    ah many thanks flatfish.

I’ve always suffered with cold feet and these look perfect. I’m hopefully doing some fat biking in the alps for a few days and really worried cold feet will ruin it!

Beaver doesn’t look like it should work as well as it does!

Not quite the answer to your question but I recently stayed overnight in Abergavenny as the accom I could find close to BPW was awful unless you fancied Premier Inn. We paid £65 for 2 and a nice breakfast in the morning – pretty good value IMO and an easy 30 min drive to BPW.

Mid week there isn’t huge numbers there, uplift was fully booked and it wasn’t busy (Ive never been on a weekend) so I’d imagine his potential market is small.

BPW also supply a big list of places: http://www.bikeparkwales.com/accommodation-near-bikepark-wales

Good luck to him either way.

Stu_N – well I went across the Nant and then I guess I should have dropped into the meadow. Instead I went straight on and assumed with the bad weather some land slippage had removed the obvious path, a bit of hike a bike and then I realised I stuffed up! There were no visible trails towards the meadow and it was getting a bit late so I turned around, I was gutted after getting up there. Next time I’m back I’ll be heading for the meadow – thank you 🙂

I was in Samoëns last week and the riding was great. Only managed two XC rides but rode to the top of the Joux Plane and took the trails back down. Sixt up to Les Praz de Commune was rather steep but stunning up there, unfortunately I couldn’t find the path to continue the route.

http://www.utagawavtt.com/ should be useful if you have time for various rides.

Also you can ride up the Joux Plane and drop into Les Gets, do what you like there and ride / lift back up and drop back to Samoëns. On the way down follow the trails to Verchaix to add a bit extra.

    Have fun

    Anyone tried the raceface Indy’s?

, my launch pros are getting very tired

Got these as my first knee pads and really impressed with them, saved my knees a few times already, although weirdly before I hardly ever fell off 😉

nickc – yes i might try a renter, I can manage a little bit of “fat” but the rest of it I’m too old mature for, a certainly can’t say knarly and get away with it!

Sir HC – yes makes sense

oliverracing – Tomac inspired – nice!

Stoner – excactly that was my first thought, saying that the red I didn’t didn’t really differ to the blues!

sambob – yes it was the braking bumps that were the worst bit

wallop – braking bumos were the main thing, the rest of what I did was OK, loose stuff I’m sure is loose on any bike, I don’t really jump or do massive drop offs, but I did start to and felt fine on the bike.

P-Jay – Well I bought the 5010 as a do it all bike, I’m extremely happy with it and im sure 98% of my riding is covered. I think renting a DH bike is the solution to see what its like.

Oh I get tempted easily. I have been considering some DH racing next year, but as I’ve just got the 5010 not sure if my wife will understand another bike so soon!

Thanks for the replies. Yes my bike was amazing when not at the bike park, and even there it was fun just really wondered what the bigger bikes would be like.

I suppose the truth is I won’t spend weeks at a bike park it would mainly be XC stuff / exploring.

Maybe I’ll just up my pike to 150mm for the Alps and save the £££ for more trips!

Slightly off topic whilst the scenery in the Alps is amazing it does show what a great job Bike Park Wales has done with their trails.

In excess of 1500km on mine then got 2 chain drops in 3 rides.

However I was an idiot chain massively worn, so replaced the whole lot inc cassette that was a fair bit older.

I now have a chain wear tool and will be more diligent.

Its been through, sand, gritty mud, pretty much everything so well over a years abuse (I did lube the chain at least) I don’t think thats too bad.

Looked after I’m sure the life can easily double. In the end a £20 chain every few months would make everything last so much longer.

Ok, rode late at Thetford on Friday night. Brandon was perfect for parking and whilst the weather was hardly great but it was better than sitting in a pub getting smashed! Did that sat night instead 😉

Whilst it was hardly an amazing place to ride but we still enjoyed it, perfect for a blast or with less experienced riders.

    Anyway thanks for the replies.

Thanks for all the replies, not particularly fussed if it isn’t BPW, it’s a bike ride so anywhere is fine and better than nothing. We did BPW and it was ace though!

We will be riding at dusk / night so should make it slightly more fun.

I’ll take the HT should be good.

    Thanks again 😉

Northcountryboy: sure, is your email address on your profile your current one?

I can send you a pic of them just so you’re sure. £25 + postage but no profit on the postage I assure you.

I have no idea, I have caplipers, pads (not new), levers and hoses all as they came off the bike. I also have a brand new bleed kit that I never got around to using (I think £25 on CRC).

£50 + postage for it all?

    Just been serviced.

    Yes the original shock.

    verbboy
    Free Member

Ok there must be something wrong with my shock, on pro pedal it bobs quite alot, Ill have a look at the CCDB. Bearings are all OK and no cracks.

I often decent with the pro pedal on as the fully open mode feels like it wallows too much. Maybe I need to stick even more pressure in it.

A friend just got a Zesty 914 and his climbing compared to his HT has transformed, i.e quicker. I’m going to try that to see how that feels.

    Thanks for all the comments.

It looks like it could be a great bike, nearly ordered one but decided to see what the reviews say. Hardly a G’tee its any good but at least a guide. They did offer a demo ride in Andorra but can’t get there for a few weeks so probably isn’t going to happen this year.

Er 😳 it meant to say NOW for sale not not!

Stole XT off other bike and all fitted fairly easily. Pushed shimano mount for front and existing one on the back.

Can’t believe I’ve waited all these years to do this!

Well all sorted, wasn’t that tricky really.

Set of Elixir CR’s not for sale!

    Thanks

    verbboy
    Free Member

Not sure why it’s amusing, I don’t like the elixir CR compared to the xt on another bike that’s all.

Plenty of avid fans out there so they can’t be a bad brake.

My biggest beef with the exilir is inconsistent pad alignment, I’m sure it’s an error on my part but take a wheell out, put it back in and 50%+ of the time it rubs, I’ve never experienced that with My XT ones. I prefer a fuss free ride and setup.

I’d happily save the money on buying new brakes if someone can recommend how I fix the problem 😀

    verbboy
    Free Member

Thanks why could the mounts cause a problem? Because they aren’t shimano specific ones?

NorthCountryBoy: er no idea, they are a few years old, white lever bodies/calipers, pads worn but a bit of meat left, and a brand new bleed kit unused. Message me an offer I’m sure we can sort something.

Well thanks for all the replies, ended up going to LQ.

Pulling up at the car park we thought we’d made a really bad choice, not ridden since late Jan and as 154hopperavenue says the climb up was “character-building” especially on my 1 x 10 made it up OK though. Played around in the middle waiting for a mate who was late, quite frankly I thought the place was rubbish and boring. Once mate arrived we set off for Cragg and started to realise I had completely missed the point of LQ, all the little bits in the middle wasn’t the whole place!

Enjoyed the ride up to Cragg bloody cold and windy but still “fun”.

Loved Cragg a bit brutal in the weather but all things considered we were much happier by now, run back down to LQ was great, then a small play in LQ then and back to the car park.

All in all we were pretty happy, pleased I’ve at least been there, won’t be rushing back but I’d ride there again and maybe pay more attention to what can be found there!

    Many Thanks

thanks for the replies so far, we don’t have much time to explore other places, Cannock on the way up on friday, a blast at either Lee or Gisburn then a day and a bit at 3 sisters.

Auto generally far better and relaxing that manual especially in traffic, get a DSG box and have the best of both worlds.

Just beware some cars (audi / bwm spring to mind) low profile tyres and 2wd are rubbish in snow and even slightly wet fields.

I had read some good things on HR2s maybe I’ll try to get them

Well as its a family holiday I will be out early mornings or in the evenings so hopefully less walkers, I tend to respect walkers over here anyway.

Next trip will definitely be more bikey!!
