I stand corrected and feel slighty silly.

S’pose it makes sense if you actually consider how a headset works.

    😳

Once the stem is nipped up (the star nut) doesn’t do anything

Apart from load the bearings. 😎

“worked too well”… How does something do that then?

Won’t pretty much everything be suspension corrected? Why not get a rigid 29er – you’ll probably be more likely to find something that’s designed around a rigid fork from the likes of Niner etc.

What Lunge and others have said: Tom & Susan have proven business-ownership or successful products behind them, Helen’s a very good manager/ organiser and Jim’s a one trick salesman pony.

I think that tom lacks confidence when managing people, and Susan has no filter when it comes to what she says and her emotional involvement.

Tom’ll get it if Sugar is focusing on innovative products. Susan’ll get it if he wants someone who’s a proven businessperson. Helen’s the outside chance for me and Jim’s a no hoper.

I’m looking forward to seeing Big Daddy Claude get out the hurtin’ stick next episode.

I’ve recently done a bit of digging on the web for plans, expected costs etc after my wife casually mentioned she wanted a bread oven outdoors. Same principle except with a bread oven you scrape out the combustible material after a bit.

Pop me an email and I can send you all the links and things if you like.

Wrong thread, but for future reference, “of” and “have” don’t have the same meaning: “should’ve” not “should of”. Jesus, it’s simple English!

Did the place the incident happen have signs telling dog owners to keep their dogs on a lead? Actually, a pointless question as most dog owners ignore that anyway.

Have I been suckered in by Trailflow’s trolling?

How does one control a dog that’s not on a lead when it decides to do what it like TJ? They might be thick but they still have enough free will to be dangerous.

    Very nice that, Shep.

How much was the build please, if you don’t mind me asking?

This was only 20 posts long when I first read it a couple of days ago. Freakin love it!

Please can people remember that “of” and “have” are not interchangeable as they don’t have the same meaning. Also, it’s a “slanging” match if we’re doing the pedantic thing, which we usually always are on STW. 🙂

Where’s the “like” button? I like the amp bits. Now I want to get mine redone white with coloured bits.

Nice reply to Richpips, MrGibbons. Made me laugh. 🙂

Can you get me a job in quality management when you’ve been there for a few months please. 😀

Yeah, I meant HT vs fully rigid as most drop barred bikes seem to have rigid forks. There are some lovely bikes on this thread, and lots of good examples of the possibilities.

    I’ll have a look at Shiggy’s article.

Although the Singular Swift, Gryphon and Peregrine are all lovely (IMO, of course), that’s my favourite so far Epicyclo. What is it? Can I have a go please?!

To all – how are the cable discs?

And I still need to know how drops handle on a hardtail.

Yup, heater matrix. Mine’s doing the same and smells of fish to boot. Coolant vapour’s bad for you apparently…

Mine happens to be a dash-out job (Jeep Cherokee) but as a short term fix (or if you suffer from the menopause) you can just bypass the matrix by connecting the inlet and outlet hoses and not have a heater. Both are doable at home but the former takes a while, and you need to disconnect the battery and also possibly vent the aircon (then get it regassed).

    A job for the weekend.

    Glad I started this. 🙂

I love that people are looking at the pics despite hating the concept and still being disgusted!

I still want a bit of reassurance on the drops and suspension combo tho…

Mike, I just mean that the pics look a little squashed… 🙂

I thought the whole point of dirt drops was not to be any lower than a straight bar, but to have a more ergonomic position, hence the tall front end, so there shouldn’t be any extra weight over the front end over and above a “normal” setup.

    I do like that Peregrine… <counts spare kidneys>

Bazz, maybe, but what about having sus on it? That’d be my aim – more natural hand position but without sacrificing the comforts I’ve become used too…

Like the Inbred actually, and the Singular Peregrine (is that what that is?)

Looks like you compressed the pics on the Solitude Mike! Too short and tall for my taste.

Pics when you’re done Shep please.

It seems to me that the biggest hindrance (aside from making the bike look terrible, mostly) is that you can’t run hydraulic brakes without a stem-mounted adaptor. And they’re not widely available yet.

I like the idea of them as I like the hand position on my road bike because it feels more natural.

It’s all academic really as I can’t afford a complete new bike and don’t want to take a punt on swapping over on my MTB just yet.

Cheapest RM for 25kg is? Nothing. Parcelforce on their website is £36.

    Collectmyparcel seem to be competitive.

Just a one off parcel, but it’s 25kg of baby buggy, carseat and accessories.

    1.5″ Schwalbe Mud Sharks here…

I never put them on because I’m always too optimistic that the course will dry out for my next lap, but in reality as soon as it gets a bit wet the volume of traffic turns it into custardy hell.

Not packed yet, but I have a kit list split into bike, clothes, camping and food subsections. Yes, I’m that retentive.

I should’ve put a section on training but that seems to have passed me by. Again.

Nope, the sponsorship link. But I’d be up for a raffle. I like the deluded hope of winning when history has proven that I’m the unluckiest raffler that has ever lived.

Just read the Justgiving thread. I’m well impressed and will make a donation.

I may also offer you some black pudding off Perpetual Motion Squad’s BBQ at Mayhem. We’d be the ones in hideous orange t shirts if I’d bothered to order any.

Another +1 for Wild Country. I think ours is a Halo 104. It’s massive (4 bedrooms, a living area that I can’t touch the ceiling in, plus a proper stand up porch) and I can put it up on my own in a reasonable amount of time. Does weigh 40kg though. So I can recommend checking them out. It’s slight overkill for the size of our family but it was a good secondhand bargain and is a fantastic tent.

Ours’ll be at Mayhem if you want to have a nosey.

Probably something to do with riding left foot forward all the time when I’m not pedalling and tensing my right calf

I already wear high heels and both my arms are overdeveloped since I am ambidextrous. Maybe I should wear proper shoes on the bike.

My kettle already has a bell on it and I’m lactose intolerant. Will this be a problem?

I cannot walk in circles as my left leg cannot hold my bodyweight.

    Thanks for all the advice.

I’m a little wary of spending too much as his balance bike is scuffed to bits where he jumps off it or leans it against walls. His sister’s 2 years younger so I suppose we’ll have whatever I get him as her first bike as well though.

I’ll have a look at the suggestions, but I’d already assumed that the Islabikes option was going to be the most well thought of. 🙂

“Are we all rowing in the same direction?”

Just remembered that one from my previous boss.

I must block these things out because they cause me so much distress. I’d totally forgotten about pretty much everyone wanting to “eat elephant burgers”. Kn0bs.

@The Southern Yeti “Fill yourself full of win”

    That’s my favourite so far.

I tend to fill myself full of hatred and despair at this sort of stuff a lot of the time.

I particularly hate “mandrolic” at the moment, but that may be a fairly unusual word. It’s still meaninless and deeply irritating though.

If you want a proper list of bullsh*t, try Gus Hedges from DTDD – I’m sure I’ve heard some of it in real life…

Ha, Apple newton. Ace. And Mr Jobs has said no HWR on any Apple product now.

I can type too, but if I have a tablet in one hand then I’d prefer to write (I’m assuming you can do that molgrips ;-)) instead of using a keyboard layout that’s designed for 2 hands…

HTC Flyer does look good, yes but it doesn’t have HWR specifically. Never heard of the Q1.

Asus Memo looks pretty good, but tbh most tablets seem to be overpriced compared to the iPad at the moment.

Dunno about creams ad things really, so perhaps Sudocrem and some certrazine OTC antiistamines for the swelling/ itching.

Marmite or garlic tablets to stop them biting in the first place.

Taken by mouth, not rubbed on or bathed in…
