Disagree re freewheel. Simon and Will for example are top blokes. Always friendly and happy to help.

Viking Challenge is quite amusing. When it’s wet is a veritable mudfest. I think I did it dry in about 2 and a bit hours, and wet in about 4!

I was thinking about combining one with the 1200 Beetle engine in the garage….then someone pointed out that it did say SPEEDboat in the description… :)

How about some sort of system of weights that get added or removed to you by a helper as you go along?

    Maybe not! :)

davidtaylforth – where do you live that the hills are too steep to SS!? If they’re that steep couldn’t you just change your SS ratios?

The bottom of Blackley Hey is like an ice rink too…

Some of the stuff that you might have avoided due to boggines may well now be rideable though!

Sadly there appears to be hundreds of very stupid dog owners out there who let their dogs runs off lead in situations where the dog could cause problems for other dogs and people.

This was a strange OP though. Yes, kicking a dog doesn’t ‘help’, but I’d have to say if a dog is attacking you or your kids, then it’s understandable really. I’d find it hard to understand other circumstances in which you’d kick a random dog though??

Unless you can help me out there?

Oh – we have three big dogs btw. :)

Having met you in the flesh, the image of you jumping up and down clapping your hands in glee like a 9 year old is a worrying one.

The kits you’ve picked out are ok. One trouble can be if the spacers don’t let you get the right chainline (there’s only two options with two spacers)

Chain tension can be a problem (slipping etc) if you can’t get the tension right – sometimes you need to get a half link.

You may struggle to keep your chain on a normal front ring, as I think they’re designed to allow for shifting.

torq ones are lovely but a little pricey. High5 ones are nice and cheap as well..
