Henry Rollins – Get in the Van. Less of a biography per se and more of a history of his time with Black Flag. Some insane stories of hard work, and long months. NOT a typical rock star book.

Think you need a V62 and about £25. Do the checking that Airvent mentioned first though

Starting with the terrain and making the training work to that is really the wrong way around.

You need to assess the demands of your event, explore how you build your fitness around those demands over time, in a progressive fashion.

When is your event? If it’s next year you need to be building the foundation of your periodised fitness now, not doing race-specific stuff.

If you want to do this properly, either get a Joe Friel book to understand training protocols and principles a bit more, or speak to a coach.

Sorry, that sounds grumpy – its not meant to ;)

Don’t buy the cheap eBay ones. They work, but the signal strength and sound quality is absolutely awful.

Second hand alloys with tyres off eBay? Cracked rear light – eBay.

They look like they’re fetching £1500 on eBay? I’d get the work done ;)

Presumably a decent FTP build plan will still have some elements of endurance work in there? I’d be looking at swapping your days around in the plan to compensate. Swap out your endurance day with a different day’s session.

This is always the issue with off-the-shelf plans really – they’re not very flexible!

Talk to a coach who’ll do you a ‘consultation’ and build you a bespoke plan?

Prepping gets a bad name mainly due to the fact that the extreme end of it gets the media coverage (right wing Americans with guns)

There are actually some more thoughtful peppers out there, even in the USA – check out https://theprepared.com for an example of a slightly more liberal approach.

A year ago no-one thought for a minute we’d be in the midst of a global pandemic now. If the world can change that much, that quickly, what else could change?

Prepping doesn’t have to mean getting ready for the end of the world, it can be as simple as warm clothes and a shovel in the car in winter. First aid training is ‘prepping’ if you think about it.

Anyway, back to digging my bunker ;)

Dale Farm in the Peak District. Nice site, superbly clean, on the door step of some nice gravel and MTB riding.

I saw Pitchshifter live in about 1993. One of the most intense gigs I’ve been too.

Saw Nirvana in 1991 and they were just dull (I liked Nirvana at the time too)

Having owned two T2s, and five T3s, I’d strongly suggest you consider a T3 over a T2. T2s are slow, often rotten, and small inside. You might not mind going slowly but think how long that journey to Wales / Cornwall will take at 55mph instead of 70-ish mph.

T3s are a bit less slow, probably a bit less rotten, and much more roomy :)

Always remember watching a Fleetwood Mac documentary thing where they told the story about Peter and the piece of cheese stuck in his hair. Something along the lines of him having a piece of cheese in his hair wasn’t unusual, but they knew he’d gone of the rails when it was there two weeks later!

Alpin – I was just about to post the same thing. I only ‘discovered’ those the other week via someone’s Instagram, then immediately found out you can’t bloody buy them :)

Think it depends on your local league as to whether the chance of CX this season is dead yet? Some leagues definitely out of the game already, some are hedging their bets and have some plans behind the scenes. Friday Night Summer Series (Midlands Grassroots MTB series) put something out the other night about getting something together in 2020. Don’t give up hope ;)

If you’re that worried, Club 10s are starting up in some places ;)

More stony than Pines, a few climbs (nothing like Welsh Trail Centres though), some Black trail elements. Worth a couple of hours of your time

You don’t really sound like you actually know why you want/need a Power Meter, so by that token I’d suggest you spend your money on something else.

As tonyf1 says above, unless you’re really pushing the boundaries of training with HR as part of a well planned out and pretty comprehensive training plan, then you might as well strap an alarm clock to your bike as a power meter.

If you want to invest in your riding to push yourself on, spend £10 on a Joe Friel book, or chuck a coach £50 for a consultation call ;)

Get a proper jersey and put stuff in your pockets? Never quite sure what people carry in their rucksacks etc. Two bottles on your frame, tube taped under the seat, gels and a foldaway jacket in the pockets. What else are you carrying?

I really liked Nant yr Arian – got a nice natural feel to it. Some of the Mach stuff is great too. Is it the Climachx with the bonkers rocky sections?

Have a look at the Peddars Way in Norfolk. 50 miles long. Ends at the sea (nice). Very gravel bike suitable. Not sure about campsites, we just wild camped in the dunes, but sure there will be options.

I assume no-ones cares how wrong MTB pedals look on a road bike? If it was dark it might be ok, but what if someone you knew saw you?

boblo – I only turn up to ‘diss’ on threads specifically about Hunt wheels. To be fair I have an irrational hatred of all the boutique wheel manufacturers that slap a sticker on and make a few hundred quid though, not just Hunt ;)

What mrb123 said. Why be a sucker and pay more just for a Hunt logo? At least when you buy Zipps you’re getting a proprietary resin system and a carbon weave they choose, not just off the shelf Far East stuff.
