Get a degree and teach at HE level. No need for teaching qualification and loads of holidays. ;)

If determined to teach younger people, get a BEd rather than a PGCE – to my mind it looks more like a career choice decision than a “what can I do after my pointless degree?” decision…

What do I know though? Did a BEd and then spent 9 years in the Aerospace industry!

Move out of Nottingham. There’s no hills. Makes downhilling difficult.

    :)

Sorry – not much help there.

Have a Spoon on the road bike, and ride quite a lot of miles on it without padding in the week with no trouble, even from new. Must be down to individual backside shapes I reckon!

What’s the deal with Hemlock – is that the Hemlock stone? (not lived in Notts for that long you see)

Dr Adams – mail me at rtedge at hotmail.com and I’ll share what little wisdom I have re south of the river riding…some good stuff ride-able from Wilford….

I live in Ruddington, just south of the city. Best riding is north of the city. Presume you already ride at Sherwood Pines? Some very nice stuff at Burntstump, Blidworth, Sansom woods and Gravelly Bottom as well. Bits of stuff south of city near me near Gotham.

As per druidh – the Superstar one’s are great. They seem really well built and good quality. Had some since the end of the summer and had no probs.

No worries – I recommend you include Jenkins Crag as a ‘back into Ambleside’ bit if you can.

    Great riding all round Ambleside…

Would you by and chance *cough* know anywhere I could get a copy of the Nobody Said it Was Easy? Been looking for ages since I snapped my cassette copy! The featured the ex-touring bass player from the Cult, who was also in Zodiac Mindwarp, from memory didn’t they?

I’m going too…strangely not that excited.

There’s no way that One is the best Metallica track ever, let alone the best metal song ever. (IMO)

Prefer the Cliff stuff than the badly produced nonsense on Justice ;)

You ought to check out the Aussie MT mags – really good quality. They even have a magazine called Enduro, strangely(!) all about Enduro riding

brant – sorry I wasn’t being specific about Ti 456s…just a general observation re bikes and marketing.

fair point funkynick, and I was probably being overly harsh. I just think some people too easily repeat what the marketing says.

Peaks is fine to ride on your own. As muffin man said, it’s busier than the local woods for sure.

Where you from? If you want a guide round the best bits one weekend let me know. I’m not local but ride there a lot.

    cyclelife. Nail, head.

What a load of utter boll@x.

I have a steel 456, which IMO is great bike, but FFS stop using these throwaway, nonsensical, marketing-driven superlatives to describe a bicycle.

Very slippy if wet, especially the rock slab bit near the bottom. It’s a cool descent – pretty hardcore, even in the dry.

6ft2 on a 20″ with standard stem. Sometimes feel it’s a bit short. Maybe I have monkey arms. Still bloody amazing bike. Makes me smile just to look at it.

Has anyone seen those new Crumpler ones yet? Saw them in the Crumpler shop in Melbourne last week. Not sure of their performance but they look cool as anything!

Can I hop in here and recommend an ex-racing greyhound. Lovely temprament, sleep most of the time, don’t need nearly as much exercise as people think, make you laugh and can run at 45mph when they can be arsed. Brilliant dogs. We’ve got 3!
