Has it got any sort of number on it? Sometimes helps to find an aftermarket version…

I used to have two of those Whippets – great bikes!

I follow someone on Twitter through cycling that is an antivax type. I continue to follow her to get an insight into what the conspiracy theorists are currently saying about stuff.

It would seem that the real (!) reason for this reduction in supply is one of:

    1) It’s a cover-up for safety concerns (let’s just ‘slow it down’ for a bit until we know better)
    2) There’s not a shortage – the illusion of scarcity will drive uptake of the vaccine amongst fence sitters.
    3) It’s an excuse to extend totalitarian lockdown measures.

Just like to say that I DON’T subscribe to any of the above opinions, but it’s interesting to see how way-out some people are!

Some good advice above. I often take a bike as well ;)

On a couple of occasions I’ve made decent money through buying job lots of bike stuff on eBay, sorting through for the good stuff and selling it on. Especially retro stuff.

A couple of years back I scored a small van load of bits (pick up only) for £30. First parts out the box were some NOS Modolo road brake levers that I immediately sold for £30. There was a load of campag bits in there too. Must of made £400, but you still have to know your market, and actually do the selling.

Car boot sales are another option (when they’re open) – people sometimes don’t know what bike stuff is worth.

Some form of meditation would be a good start. ‘Headspace’ app is pretty good.

Why not pick one that sponsors a bike team? ;)

being pedantic a deerhound / greyhound cross isn’t a lurcher. A lurcher is, classically speaking, a sight hound of any breed crossed with a non-sight hound of any breed.

Both greyhounds and deerhound are sight breeds so fall at the first hurdle

Technically a lurcher is a sighthound crossed with a working dog, not just any dog….to be fair it’s a pretty broad term these days…

I talked to a girl with a lurcher the other day.

Me: “What is it, greyhound cross deerhound”

    Her: “No, its a Lurcher”

She was really surprised when I explained what a Lurcher is….

To be fair, I’m not sure it was actually her dog

I bought one abut a year ago, and then realised the issue with permissions on private land, so have only used it a couple of times.

Used to work with a guy who used to go out at night to avoid those issues – he’d take a four pack of special brew and have a bit of a party with himself as he detected! He’d do his homework though – looking at old roads across fields etc, with the theory being that these were good places to find discarded stuff etc.

If he did find anything (coins etc), he’d never do the proper thing and register them – he’d just sell them on eBay!

They’ve started to become quite popular as apres-Cyclocross garments. To be fair it’s a pretty good idea if you’ve done a wet mid-winter CX race and you haven’t got a van to warm up in.

I’ve actually got one of those exact camo ones, but not sure I could wear it outside of a carpark in a muddy field….

    1) Be disciplined
    2) Get a coach

    2) is your answer, but won’t work without 1)

I think someone was running Baby Limus. Not sure you’d want full Limus on that course. Looked like Brand was running small birds?

Wow – comments ranging from the mildly lecherous to the downright offensive.

Retarded crap like this is part of why women’s cycling struggles for the space, funding and airtime that it needs.

Next we’ll be back to ‘why doesn’t Sanne Cant smile?’

The issue with UK Marathon races like this is that they’re very rarely ever a proper race due to our bridleway laws etc…

See if you can find a coach who’ll do you a ‘consultation’ rather than lock you into a plan for ever more ;)

Drop me a mail/pm if you want more details.

Get a copy of Joe Friel’s Cycling Bible if you want to start understanding an element of self coaching. Depends how deep you want to go into the whole training thing.

Without wanting to place too much of a stealth advert(!), find a coach who would do you a ‘consultation’ call and explain some of the fundamentals to you and help you build a short term plan? ;)

It’s already been suggested, but you need to stop mixing your ‘currencies’. Measure what you can actually measure (which is HR), and use that to train to. Stop trying to convert to power etc.

Start the process with a 20 min FTP-type test, and then use the average HR from that to determine your HR zones for training.

Playing ‘Multi User Dungeon’ text-based adventure games at Uni in 91. Found it mind blowing to be playing a computer adventure game with other people playing at the same time. I was quite stoned most of the time which probably added to the sense of wonder.
