daveb – what about secondhand? Could sell you some s/h carbon (superstar) forks that I used fairly infrequently on my ss. Uncut steerer, no marks or cracks etc. They’ve been sat in the garage for ages!

Drop me a mail at rtedgeAThotmail.com if interested.

Before anyone says not to buy s/h carbon, I do work in composites for a living ;)

Thanks mokl – that’s what I was actually looking at. Cheers!

I slept in mine each night after a stage on Trans Wales. Must either be a pro or whatever xterramac’s bigoted description was.

I always maintain I’d keep training on the turbo if I hurt an arm, but I’m not sure in reality how long I could stand that!

Riding at the moment with a cracked rib, but nothing like what you’re going through!

    Get well soon! :)

I’ll email you in a minute with the name of a company to try. I used to work there. I haven’t a clue if they need anyone, but your skillset above would fit in very well…

fashion driven pony trekking by bike

Chubby baggy suited clowns, porting huge camelbaks around, filled with sports drinks, first aid kits, energy bars, wearing the latest colours, sporting this seasons helmet du jour, with gps tracking in case we get lost, out for 5 hours, actually riding for 2, as we stop every 10minutes because Jason and Amanda are new to this…
It’s not a sport, its a jeffing mobile dinner party.

Best rant within someone else’s thread I have ever seen. Insightful, to the point, and oh so right.

    Good work that man.

Same story here as others. Lost the use of granny ring for most of the race. No back brake for last 50 miles, both brakes totally went at about mile 97 and had to walk last 3 miles, including what looked like the best of the trails! Freezing for whole race despite wearing gilet and jacket.

Well done to the chap who rode a pedal axle – that’s determination! :)

Exposure is a great event. Really enjoyed this year, even with rain etc. Also amusing to be able to tell work colleagues that you are competing in the European Championships! :)

    Sorry, I don’t know.

XT throughout. Harder wearing than XTR

Hmmm. Based upon scientific tests of the hardness and durability of the materials involved I presume?

Erm, what about weight? I know if you’re plodding round trail centres you could argue that it makes no difference, but I’m sure someone racing XC (or even 24s) would rather their bikes weighs the least it can. Thus an XTR groupset would be preferable to a Deore one. Yes, lots of people should lose the gut first etc, but after that?

I’m not sure whether MBUK and MBR are actually awful, or whether I’m not their target audience. :-) I strongly suspect the former.

Useful test of whether it’s just a paint chip or something serious is to do a tap test on the area. If the sound changes around the affected area, it’s probably delaminated.

Failing that, send it to me and I’ll get it NDT/x ray inspected for you, although it might cost more than a new frame ;)

Email the organisers, but I doubt you’ll get them now. Some of the route is not public access, and given the fact they’re not running it again in this format, it’s sort of invalid anyway…

I walk Jim for 45 mins early morning, 30 mins at tea time and 20 before bed. Then he does this for the rest of the day/night

Love how Jim looks like a giant dog in that pic because of the perspective on the books :)

Some good advice on this thread…greyhounds totally unsuitable for proper long walks or bike related activities. Lurchers more suitable dependant upon what the cross is.

Two random pics of our greyhounds (we have 3)

This has to be the most useful and interesting thread I’ve ever read on STW. Only partly as I didn’t know Rickie Cotter was a painter and decorator! :-)

Having said that, I doubt I have used it at all in the last 10 years, and really wouldn’t know where to go to buy film or get procesing done any more

Poundland do 24exp 35mm film for a quid a roll. ASDA will process it and scan it to disc for you for £2.97

    :)

I love old film cameras, even relatively ‘worthless’ SLRs partly just from a design and functionality perspective. I dabbled with digital snaps, but getting a couple of old 35mms has really pushed me on in terms of photography in general. Russian ones are my favourite – Zenits and Feds.

Please don’t throw working bodies away folks…chuck em my way!

MSP – if you’re asking about the gold package tents, then from memory they appear to be very small popups. Not worth the money really. I mean, how long does it take to pitch a pop up tent!? :)

I’m in for the third time :)

Some good advice on this thread. My couple of inputs would be:

    a) Take a good lock. Someone tried to steal my bike in Brecon last year, even though it was locked to a gate. Always lock your bike to something at night.
    b) Sleep / Massage. Recovery after each day is key. Sleep/snooze as much as you can, and if you can afford it, get a massage every day.

Happy to answer any questions via email as well. rtedge@hotmailDOTcom.

I also wrote an article for XXCmag about last year’s event – let me know if you want a copy etc….

Hello there OP / who. You appear to be the reason I had to go out and do another lap at the end, just so I could hold on to ninth place! :)

Mos tof my laps look ok time wise – first one was very long but I started waaaay back.

Loved the random soft toys dotted about the course, wonder who stole the gel from the squirrel!

I can at least claim to be the man that left the gel with the Squirrel. For some reason I found it amusing at the time, but even funnier two laps later when someone had eaten the gel and left the wrapper with the squirrel to look after.

The marshalls playing metal were brilliant. Came through on one lap to the start of Sweat Leaf by Sabbath! (although there was a Dire Straits moment too)

Course was hard work – lot tougher than Exposure in the rain, and I though that was hard!

Cademan woods and grace dieu area near Coalville, can link bits together with short quiet roads

+1 for this. If you’re willing to be a bit cheeky you can put a superb ride together round here. Can extend off towards Shepshed too…

Is this the latest effort to try and make Sherwood Pines a worthwhile ride? Simply by adding big cats? :)

I totally believe you though OP. Fairly sure I’ve seen a black one myself a few years back, and a mate’s brother swears blind he saw one in the car headlights with a fox in its mouth!

Wow. Seriously well done sir!! I’ve done a three day bikepacking trip on PB and Mary Townley so I know the route isn’t easy spinning by any means!

    Impressed.

Need to make sure it’s got semi horizontal dropouts.

I bought a Falcon road bike off here for £18, and a fixed wheelset off ebay for £10.

Chain and cog from the parts bin, junked all the cables and levers, bought a lockring for £3, and now have a £32 fixed for going to the shop :)
