Think you’ll find that it’s the ‘AM’ bike that’s wrong on a bottle cage. ;)

Interesting one to start with?! Train the same way you would for any endurance race, but get plenty of experience in training of doing back to back hard days. It it were me I’d enter something like Trailmasters trans wales repalcement or Black Mountains 3 day to get a feel for back to back racing.

Presumably you’ve got altitude issues to cope with in Nepal too? Interesting. If you want Top 20, you’d better hope there’s less than 20 Nepalese riders. ;)

VERY interesting choice of pic on that site. Trans Wales main shot always had a real XC racer pic of someone in lycra, whereas MTB Marathons (same promoters) had a more ‘average’ MTB rider. Now it appears pisspot lids and pads are the image of choice for this event.

Nothing against that, sure Michael and the crew will put on another superb event……

I know plenty of good cross country riders who nail it up hills, can’t ride down for s**t and many of them walk the steep stuff.

They’re not good XC riders then are they? ;)

Having said that, I suppose I could buy 6 DX lights, and swap them every couple of laps, and it would still be cheaper than a joystick!? ;)

quite why would anyone would drop £130 on a joystick when you can get something just as effective for less than £20 posted beggars belief.

Cos joysticks run for 10hrs on medium, which is quite useful for 24hr racing ;)

Without fully understanding your research, surely lactate threshold and VO2 max are what they are, irrespective of whether you are wearing any sort of shoes? Unless you are studying the traditional measurement of those factors? That’s me being interested btw, not taking the piss!

Electromyographic patterns might change I guess from what little I understand of them. Make sure you include the ‘o’ you missed out when you write up your research. That was me taking the piss btw ;)

Good luck with your shoe search!

Singlespeed the Rock Lobster for winter. Cost you a lot less than a grand too.

Jeez people….. Management is about people, not numbers and certainly not theory. However, it has proved itself as a valuable money-spinner for various institutions….

Save your time and money and find yourself a ‘Listening Skills’ course through Adult Ed. Stages 1 to 3 would undoubtedly increase your effectiveness as a leader, inspirer and developer of people than any understanding of forecast modelling.

The real issue here is that we have developed a status culture, whereby people are promoted to levels of incompetence and unfortunately, the MBA has given us a dirth of inexperienced, over paid, incompetent and IMHO, dangerous management teams.

Apart from that…. The days start getting longer in less than a week

I’d say management is about people, numbers, theory and a lot of other things actually. I know all the good MDs and GMs I’ve worked for haven’t been successful managers just because they’ve been good listeners!

I think management is about using a variety of inputs, filtering them through your own approach etc. Have to say experience counts a lot though.

Go to Poundland for cheap film. Kodak 24ex colour for (unsurprisingly!) a quid.

    I despair.

Got a pair on my fixed road bike for winter. Think they were 7 quid when I go them. Basic, cheap tyre. No puncture issues here. Schwalbe Luganos are good budget ones too.

No – I meant this one, although I’ve read about that border one before and it looks ‘fun’ :)

White lycra goes better with the shaved leg, perma-tan XC look, and actually makes you faster. :)

It’s an interesting point re the dynamics vs compression. I’m with you in some respects, but it’s just the norm for dance-y stuff really I guess. I guess it just comes down to how this music gets played – you don’t want dynamics in a club setting really do you – that’s what the drops and builds are in there for.

I think you’re point about higher freqs on the kicks is the same one I was making when I said sharpen them. Either way I agree! :)

Ref the synthesis, I used to run a number of Music Tech Higher Education courses for a Creative Industries college (although I’m not skilled enough to teach on them!) We used to run whole year modules on synthesis alone. It’s a true art form in my book.

I’ve stopped doing so much music tech stuff myself these days with so much bike training, but I really should get back into Logic again..

Anyway – best of luck with the creativity!

For the genre/sound you’re aiming for, I’d suggest that you need a lot more compression on the tracks overall. Compress the hell out of them until you lose some of the dynamics (the tracks will look like a black bar on SoundCloud!) but get that ‘pumpy’ feeling.

Also, unless you are favouring the minimal feel, think about layering your kicks up with multiple frequencies, and sharpen them a bit? Together with the compression that should bring some real feel to the tracks.

Think about keeping the interest engaged with some progressive ‘drop and bring it back in again’ bits with some filter sweeps?

Really impressed with the synthesis approach you’ve used. It takes thought and time to build sounds from the ground up rather than just be a preset monkey!

If it’s anything of a cultural reference to you, it sounds like LFO to me, which for me is a good thing!

    Cheers

Have an Olympic edition of that and a K1000 which is my main camera. Love em both for the simplicity and effectiveness.

Rather an open question really, as there’s so many variable to consider. Depends what you want to achieve during your winter training. Turbos not ideal for long endurance sessions (boring), but ideal for focussed intervals and pedal drill sessions. A real bike outdoors is probably going to be the reverse. Single speed an interesting spanner in the works though, as it’s harder to change training intensity than on a geared bike, unless you start using hills in your sessions.

Sorry – not brilliantly helpful really that answer. I think you need to work out what you want to achieve, and go from there? :-)

Point taken – there’s SKF ones one ebay I think. I was just wondering if any 6803-prefixed bearings work, or if I need something specific?

I’ve used an old MTB with one of the orange conti turbo tyres on in the past, but now use an old road bike with a standard road tyre on. Kills tyres after a bit. The QR that comes with the turbo should fit any normal bike really.

    Use whatever suits you really.

Worth understanding what you’re trying to get out of your turbo sessions so that it doesn’t end up unused (like most people’s seem to!)

    :)

    On One 456 is missing.

Had a Blue Pig Mk1 – good bike, can be built quite ‘hardcore’ if required.

Had a handjob too – older sort with 100mm geometry – didn’t really like – seemed overly heavy.

    Had a 456 – nice cheap option…

    Not sure of rest.

Will be having a Blue Pig mk1 for sale shortly in a 20″ flavour when I can free the seatpost ;)
