ALDI did some a few weeks back. Got some brand new ones in a medium that you can have for nothing if you fancy a go? I literally put them on and took them off again as I didn’t like the fit.

Thanks for that. Well made film. I thought the chap at the start was fairly pointless, but the woman talking later about political policing was nicely eloquent.

Go on then, I’ll ask it.

    What’s a ‘trail track’?

Not as easy as you’d think to be a vegan cyclist. Some tyres contain animal ‘stuff’

    “what tyres for veganism….?”

    ;)

As others have said, it’s another element of cycling that’s worth trying. Old school wisdom would have it that winter training on a fixed helps with souplesse, cadence work and strength. Depends on how you ride it I guess.

Put a proper brake on if you’re riding in traffic though. ‘Brakes are for fakes’ is one thing, but smashing your face through a car back window is another ;)

The issues you describe are half the fun to me. Just read through the posts and see if there’s anything you like really… :)

In contrast with other opinions, I’ve had one of their circa £20 jackets, and thought it was worth at least twice what I paid for it. Nicely made, good quality etc.

I’ve just bought one of those lenses! :)

When buying anything. I’d not want the display model. Unless they gave me money off.

My 2008 SIDs have got twisted lowers. It’s happened progressively, and now they rub when I stand to climb. It’s on my old race bike, now training bike, so I’m being cheap and putting rigid carbons on.

I was going to make a comment but it was going to be sarcastic so I won’t bother. Hope you like it :)

Peugeot Partner. Awesome little van. Fits big framed MTB with just front wheel turned to one side. I’m struggling a little more (but still OK) with my 29er.

    Vans rock ;)

Nice to hear a bit of balance on this situation (balance on STW, whatever next!?) :)

I’ve found PM’s media campaign a little strong and, their justifications seemed a little weak. It seemed to me like a simple failure to win a tender due to the other party having a better proposal for provision?

The other PM centre at Hicks Lodge were tweeting about it last week. Which was annoying (unfollow)

I’m about two minutes in, and I’m sold on this. They’ve got it just right in terms of the balance between aggression and melody. Production really compliments it too…

    Like!

I have to confess I mis-read the title, and excitedly clicked on the thread expecting to see you’d done the DOUBLE in 24hrs! Having said that, I reckon doing it one way is still an amazing achievement, so bravo sir!!!

I’ve you’re looking for riding near Loughborough, there’s a lot of nice stuff actually. Up around Cademan woods round Whitwich is superb.

To me “Enduro” still means 24/12/10 hour races and for those I’ll be using the Anthem. They’re at the podium at just about every single endurance race in the country. They’re popular because they’re fast, light and, most importantly, don’t beat you up like a hardtail so you can stay faster for longer.

Have to say I haven’t seen many Anthems being ridden by winners in the endurance races I did last season. I think people just think Anthems win endurance races because the marketing says so! ;)

Having said that, Munrobiker will now tell me of all the podium spots he’s had and I will eat my words!

If they come in the green that the prototype version that I saw came in, then it’s a lovely colour!

+1 for Beetle. Very easy to work on. Engine comes out with a 17mm spanner, a trolley jack and a skateboard (ok maybe some swearing as well!)

Pick your project well, whatever you go for. Working with rot really isn’t the fun bit, so the less you have the better. Take someone who knows that particular sort of car when you go to view a potential project, and DON’T let your heart rule your head

    Restos=moneypits if you’re not careful!

    Good luck

I’ve ridden around Canaston and Minwear woods when I’ve been down that way. Some nice little bits of singletrack.

Read it yesterday (It’s been slooooow at work!)

Have to say I was really impressed. Rob’s almost as good a writer as he is a cyclist. He manages to walk the fine line between being humble, informative, yet sharing some of his cool experiences and achievements.

Love the section in the back that show him progresssing from no licence, through sport, expert and into Elite in 4 straight years!

You have to run about 5 mins at the start. Good event though. Pits are small, even for one person.

Can thoroughly recommend riding at Tokai, and Silvermine. Rode there about half a dozen times when we were over there. Tokai basically a great climb with multiple singletrack lines back down. Some really techy stuff and borderline downhill stuff. If you like climbing, push on all the way up to the radio mast or go up into Silvermine. Felt really safe in both areas. Lots of baboons too!

http://www.capetowncyclehire.co.za/ are great for hire bikes. I had a Trance off them, and they did Anthems and road bikes too. They drop off and pick up where you’re staying.

    Have fun (I’m jealous!)

Cademan and grace dieu woods at thringstone, near Coalville

If you really know your way around near here, there’s a good three hours of hilly, techie, rocky riding.

Isn’t this thread posted in advance of the deadline for the next tedious “why are roadies miserable?” thread?. Seems like we only just had the last one.
    ;)

But seriously, when I’m out on the road bike, looking like a roadie, I sometimes get other roadies not acknowledging me. Get over it.

CRC marathons are good for beginners. Distances as short as 25km. The Marshbrook event is close to you in Brum. Features lovely natural riding around Church Stretton, including the ace Minton Batch descent.

Carbon fibre gas pipe? I’ve gotta get me some of that…
its called fibre glass, you would be amazed how much of it is in these shitty frames

Fibreglass and Carbon Fibre are both composite materials – a mix of resin and fabric. One’s wet-layed, the other pre-preg. Having previously made semi-structural helicopter products using a variety of composite materials, including wet-lay material (fibre glass), it’s quite a lot about how you lay them up, not just what material you use.

This is an interesting read if you’re considering this sort of lifestyle. He interviews loads of people doing it, from all ends of the spectrum. Lots of practical advice. Certainly helped me when I moved into a large cardboard box by the river (That last bit’s not true, but the book is good) ;)
