I’ve also got a Zumo. As others have said, the Elite apps are rubbish but you only use them once in a while (I had to email Elite to get help completing the calibration as it wasnt working but they are very responsive on email). Various discounts available at Halfords.

Its very quiet though I got a mat as well which helped dramatically. My gears also jumped a bit at first but I found that you just need to ensure that the cassette side is snug (as much as it’ll go) rather than sitting in the middle.

Enjoyed that! Mostly. Hung on to a small group over Box Hill then got spat out the back on the underground kick and managed to claw my way back with 500m to go.

Great idea with donation link as well. I’ll put something in tomorrow.

I’ve just fitted a 48t to my mtb as I was spinning out last week (that’s my excuse anyway). Looking at that hill, I might take it back off ha!

I think that suggestion was that it was something to aim at in the future. Not do it next week :)

@root-n-5th Never done a running warm up – just stretches & a few things to get my core going so maybe that’s the first thing to try to get me closer to sub 20 then.

I like the idea of a parkrun as well. I’ll look into that when things get better

Thanks @loum @lunge @root-n-5th (well done on smashing your sub 20!)

Originally running was just to get away from my laptop and WFM set up but it’s increasingly becoming my thinking time and clearing my head too so maybe 10k should be my next target then if you both like the additional thinking time.

A sub 20 would be nice but I’m not sure I have that in me. My splits are fairly equal except the final 250m when I empty everything and have to sit on the pavement for 10 mins! My route has a short sharp hill in it so maybe on a totally flat course I could do it but I kind of like comparing myself like for like to see my improvements if that makes sense.

An ultra is also a good idea. I used to love cross country running at secondary school so maybe going back to that is something to aim for.

I bought some new shoes (old ones were 15 years old!) off the back of this thread and the running shoes one so really appreciate all the replies and comments

What next for me? Since Dec I’ve got my 5k time down from 28.17 (first 5k since secondary school – very long time ago ha) to 21.20 which I’m happy with. Where do I go from here? Try to go faster? Or start doing longer runs?

Also, any recommendations for a thin hoodie to run in? I already have a decent shell for wet days but want something that breathes a bit better

@superlightstu Cheers. I bought some new shoes yesterday as a result of this and the other running thread. Haven’t had new running shoes in about 10 years!

Find a pair you like on the Sports Shoes Direct site sale section.

I ended up with a pair of Saucony Guide for £60 and they have been great. I will certainly buy them again, even at full price.

Why are they half price (on some colours) compared to the brand + nearly every other website? Looking at Nike Pegasus if it makes a difference

That was horrible. Felt good for about 10 mins and then just got slower and slower.

Do I need a cadence sensor?

I’ve only had Zwift a few weeks and got an Elite Zumo. When riding, the cadence barely seems to change on the screen but afterwards, in the data, it does show changes.

    Is the Zumo guessing?

Would a proper cadence sensor make it more accurate?

And does it get easier?? I’m relatively fit but did the Haute Route over the weekend and its absolutely killed me!

My 12 month promo came to an end with Virgin during lockdown two and was going to double in price. Told them I was leaving and they gave me a price for £1 more than the original promo for another 12 months, increased the speed and added more TV packages (I don’t watch them either). All done via their online chat.

I think the speed does make a difference – I live in a city and on lower speeds previously you seemed to notice it more at peak times.

No way! I had no idea what that was and also had left the blue film on thinking it was just the colour!!

Ouch!! That was hard. My first ever Zwift race.

    Thanks for organising Robbo!

    @savoyad thats really helpful thanks!

Doing that then means I don’t have to re-pair when I join the event then?

    Novice Zwift racing questions!

On race day, I click the link from my calendar (on either the macbook or the companion app?) and that takes me to the race right?

How early in advance can I join the link?

If, say I join 15 mins before, does it put me in some virtual holding room (I’ve seen some people on turbo trainers??) where I can warm up whilst connecting my Apple watch etc?

    Thanks!

From what I can see the connection is meant to be be watch to phone, phone to companion, companion to Zwift (via shared Wi-Fi network). The order or connecting devices is important but, as I say, I can’t make it work reliably. If you work it out I’ll be interested to know.

That was my understanding too. I just got it to work again correctly whilst “watching”. I’ll try again on a ride and let you know.

Has anyone worked out how to consistently get an Apple watch to connect to use as a hr?

I’m using a Macbook connected to my trainer and iPhone with Zwift companion app.

First time it worked, second time it didnt.

Got mine too – really impressed. Glad I asked what they were!

Like everyone else, I sized up too (one size) and they fit perfectly. Decent leg length.

    Really happy with them.

    Thanks for all the help!

I’ve been online/on the phone with Apple support today. Trying a completely fresh OSX install tonight (not holding breath). They’ve given me direct line to their senior team and seem to be trying to help fully so far.

Thanks @Sandwich Its def the internal drive as I rebooted this morning using that and it crashed after an hour – but ran for hours last night on the external.

There appear to be well known issues with the logic board mine has but no recalls that I can find.

Am I screwed then? The only way to fix it is to replace the whole logic board as its all soldered on?

    vanilla83

@sandwich – I’ve now run a full surface scan by booting from an external hard drive and it says that there are no errors on my internal drive.

It’s not crashed yet though running from the external hard (its extremely slow though) which suggests that it is the internal hard drive? Despite there being no errors?

    vanilla83

    @timmys Thanks – yes I’ll give that a go

Thanks Sandwich – I had already found that before you posted and have run all the tests (all passed) except the surface scan which can’t be done from my Macbook – I’m not really understanding the edrive thing that it includes? I’m looking at the tools selection and it doesnt give me the option to create an edrive

    @retro83
    – thank you. Onyx doesnt work with Big Sur (yet) but I have tried Disk Utility several times and it passes everything. It doesnt have SMART status apparently but is fully verified

    What would you suggest using?

It suddenly started doing this on Monday when I was on Catalina so I updated to Big Sur hoping it would fix it – which it hasnt.

Cheers – I’ll post on macrumours as well.

I also followed that other thread with interest and ended up buying from OnBuy.com who were much cheaper than Amazon – delivery took about 10 days.

I’ve had the Berghaus Jalan 60+10 for years and it’s coped with all sorts and still going very strong.
