I went over the bonnet of a volvo yesterday. I hurt a bit but bike appears to be unsscathed apart from scratches on grip ends, pedal, and rear skewer.

I may have posted last night but have no recollection of last night at all. Was wobbly all day.

Is ABI the company behind Enduro?

    Jus’ wondering…

Quite like the idea of silicone outer seals on the Enduro. unless I have got confused somewhere.. are they silicone and a better seal? Also have to weigh up Enduro’s chromium steel balls to the probably better (for corrosion resistance) stainless steel of Hope INA…

Amazed they didn’t choose a standard bearing size… and anything that involves frequent removal of a bottom bracket cup is evil poo.

Just thought I’d resurrect an old thread….

When you say you can service Chris King bearings the standard way? What do you mean? Are Chris King bearings somewhat different to other BB bearings?

    What are Enduro bearings like?

Mine lasted 2 months riding 2 hous per day. with no fiddling (I didn’t know!). No wet rides either mind.

    Me not like.

mine’s what? hope or pace or CK?

I love Hope, but must say I am disappointed with longevity of the bearing.. oir rather I am disappointed with the poor sealing..

    That plastic disc isn’t enough.

I’m wondering whether I whether if I detach the rear side covers of the Hope bearings, will the CK or Pace tool work to inject grease from the rear? I can’t see why it wouldn’t work.

Pace has iffy reviews.. and CK’s injection tool is 40 quid.

I’m kind of thinking I might replace the Hope on the Ragley with a Pace RC80 or Chris King. I’ll keep the Hope BB on my Pitch and I’ll know now to inspect and clean that BB regularly around the cranks and arms and around and behind the outer seal. Then at least I will not have two BB’s to remove…

For a very high milage bike like my Ragley I like the idea of a grease port on a BB.. The Pace is a fair bit cheaper than the King with a similar grease port to the King.. I wonder if either the King or Pace grease port tool would also work with the Hope?

    Anyone try the Pace RC80?

I guess so.. not much square taper around anymore is there?

I guess I should have got under that outer seal more often, but how was I to know? I am used to fitting and forgettting a BB…

Anyone know if the Enduro bearing kit is compatible with the Hope bearing tool?

I like how they are still UK made. I personally prefer saddles with a pudendal/perineum cut out, though not all of these I like. The first minkow Specialized BG saddles were great. Later models not as much so. Terry’s Liberty was also ok though the original and cheapest Specialized 175mm wide BG was better.

I’d like to see Brooks do a sit (sitz) bones perch/cut out type saddle…

Some of the superstar catalog looks good. I use him as an example in school DT lessons. I teach DT. The young man behind Superstar started the business with £2k, mainly pads. Had some issues with early pads. Current pads apparently good. Having said that I buy Clarks, I find them as good as the orignals or EBC and Clarks can be found cheap. I like that the Superstar guy has bought a 2nd hand CNC milling centre and is looking to make chainrings (to begin with) in the UK. Good luck to him. We need more Hope. Maybe one day I’ll crank some ideas of my own out from the shed.

How often do you land on your head when riding? I haven’t landed on my head in 30 years… how often are you landing on yours?

Sorry, I’m with the ‘wear one’ camp… sure it’s your choice not to… but it’s my choice not to ride with someone, get to know them and then be forced to assist in scooping their grey-matter off the floor.

It’s all about reasonable precautions… ok, so we all look like tits with plastic on our heads… but as someone has already pointed out, I’d rather look like a tit for a couple of hours while having a laugh than potentially spending the rest of my days in a chair / bed with someone wiping my drool off my shoulder.

A helmet is unlikely to prevent that happening since helmets are not designed to prevent that from happening. They have been designed to offer some protection to the head in the event of a low speed crash to the floor. Besides, not all cyclists who are mortally wounded die from head injuries….

The helmet: a stupid piece of headwear that makes you uncomfortable and sweaty and look like a spaz that you will likely never need… and even when you might need it, it offers little in the way of protection.

There have been other studies that have found bicycle riders ride more recklessly, with a false sense of security, when wearing that ‘protective’ piece of equipment – the helmet.

I think helmets are stupid and I think bike riders look ridiculous and babyish/retarded wearing them. How come car drivers are not wearing helmets? Or pedestrians?

Much rather have the wind in my hair…

Not that long ago, when children played outside because parents didn’t believe there was a paedophile on every street, we rode everywhere, we sometimes fell off, we never wore helmets, and none of us ever died..

    Helmets are gay.

How can you possibly not expect such a question to become a debate about the merits or lack thereof of helmets? Helmets are stupid! 30 odd years of cycling and I have never landed on my head and wnyway, the protection a lid offers to landing on your head is not significant unless it is a very sharp (small area) object you land on. Certainly they do not help much in vehicle impacts, and motorists have been found to drive faster and/or closer around cyclists wearing helmets. Though they tend to give mnore room to pretty ladies regardless of whether they are wearing helmets… a bunch of sheep.

To me it is a question of freedom. I choose to not wear a helmet cos I don’t see the value and I don’t like a covered head… if a group of cyclists demanded I wore one I would seek another group. Because I would see that bunch as intellectually inferior..

VCC is not just about battery life, you just need high for traipsing down the road between trails or up the canal, where a decent beam is still required – a medium setting. Also I find it’s not polite to swamp the rider in front with a better light than he’s using (on steady bits)..

I see what you are saying, but anyway my 2 lights are different. My torchythebatteryguy ebay sub66 type light has 5 modes (L M H H-Flashing Strobe) and a 6Ah battery pack . My Magicshine clone has 3 modes (L H and H-Flashing Strobe) and a 4.7Ah pack. I like to ride with either of my lights on pavements and on roads with the high flashing.. which is obnoxious for sure and often gets complaints, but I am not a big lover of my fellow man and so do it anyway.. likely someone will try and slap me one day, but I will be ready… …and low or high (or medium with the torchy light) on trails and canal paths etc.

****, sorry that a different story again, main pointer DO NOT buy a 3 mode one, get a 4/5 mode one as the medium mode on these is extremely useful to extend the light battery life but still have a usable light for say road & canal work (though the same is true for those ‘bike lights’ above). The low on the 3 mode version (high/low/flash) is rubbish and is only of use to let ppl know ‘your’ there. Oh and I found my original P7 torch to be quite heavy on my head and very very difficult to keep steady once your up to speed (lots of vibration on the bars/head).

Fine, good. Alternatively or also get the 6Ah battery pack, then 3 modes is fine. Even on high you’ll get 4-5 hours on high.

Yes, let’s not postulate on whether the UK lottery is rigged. That would be too much like a real conversation.

I can’t help now but think that our UK lottery might be rigged. Consecutive numbers sometimes look strange. The draweing of the same numbers twice in a row in the Bulgarian lottery is enough evidence to suggest I am not nuts for thinking this… our leadership is easily as depraved and rigged as theirs.

My Hayes Stroker Trails have been totally maintenance and trouble free. They are a somewhat ugly brake when compared to the myriad of pretty options now available, but they have been great brakes. Though the bleed can be a little messy. In the end I attached the Hayes fittings to the Juicy bleed kit I have. I swap between fittings to bleed either the Juicy or Hayes with the same kit.

I’ve got a book written by Andy Pruitt the man behind the Specialized Body Geometry gear and his remey for “hot foot” is moving the cleat as far back as it’ll go . Put it in google and see what comes back

I respect the original Minkow body geometry (BG) saddles, yet now lament how the BG saddles are not as good as they once were. But, back to peddles, moving cleats as back as far as they will go? Surely pushing on the arch of the foot is the recipe for plantar fascitis?

I have been riding with SPD’s or similar (Bontrager, Time) for about 16 years. I really like them but they do take a bit of setting up when you first get them. As you get older it can be difficult to bend your foot up whilst straddling the bike in order to make those necessary adjustments.

I believe I got plantar fascitis from a set of SPD’s that I hadn’t set up optimally. Reading above it seems some may have also suffered this and not known the name of the condition. That was VERY painful in the morning and caused the arches of the foot to be inflamed to the point of some disability. Managed to get better from that, but it took orthotics for a while and time.. but have since set up pedals and cleat better. I think you need to get the cleat as far forward as possible so the ball of the foot is unhindered and can flex and provide most of the contact on the cleat.

The cup spanners that only engage with a few of the steps on a cup can’t possibly tighten the cup to the specified torque. Even with a big **** off torque wrench, 30-40 N/m is one good grunt of welly.

Maybe your bottom bracket is loose.

I have 4 sets of 750mm Funn Full-On Triple butted in 25.4 standard. 2 sets are spare cos CRC were clearing them out; because they are gret bars; and because I want to stick to 25.4 for as long as I can.. I prefer the look… these bars are plenty wide, I have 47in chest..

Prevention is best – I get a flu jab every year. It’s well worth it.
    Posted 2 hours ago # Report-Post

After all the trouble they cause? Some jabs have even contained live virus. Vaccines are big business. It is no secret that Donald Rumsfeld personally profited from the various bird flu terror-mongering through his interests in Gilead’s Tamiflu. And do you remember that big Labor donor who was a big vaccine maker in the UK? There’s something not quite right with the business of vaccines…

Lots of garlic and onions, and I really do mean lots. So much that people can smell it. In capsule form at night before sleep if you don’t want to be too anti-social. Have the other half if you have one eat or take lots of garlic also so you are both immune to the smell. The other half will also now be be better protected from what you have. Perhaps some food with turmeric and ginger if you have any.. vitamin C, or plenty of fruit or fruit juice.. the odd cup of tea.

Garlic is the king of killing baddies though. Onion is a milder relative. Sulphur and other compounds like allicin are considered to be the doers of good.
