The specific type I’d like is a Road King police spec. Then pop a pair of Vance n Hines pipes on. The ex police ones don’t seem too tasselly 😝 or overly chromey, will probably have a few battle scars already and hopefully some kind of history. There’s one on the bay at the moment. Black n simple.

I’m happy with handling/performance of them. I’ve done 3000+ miles on a hire HD bike.

From a little bit of googlefu, I think that the unreliability issue is exaggerated; not saying that they are quite up to sorted jap standards but the number of sky high mileage HDs available suggests that they are doing something right (and getting used plenty, too; unlike a lot of sports bikes).

I don’t work in IT and I’m not so wouldn’t fit in to whatever H.O.G is 😂

In fairness, you are living proof that lifetime bans are badly named 😉

if you do have more money than sense, spend it on coke and hookers instead

I hear you. But what’s the resale value on coke and hookers?

TJ; agreed. Feels a bit like a death spiral, and banning a couple of the most entertaining posters strikes me as a self defeating move.

I rode one for about 3000 miles around the west coast of the States about ten years ago; I’m aware of their shortcomings in that respect. Was looking for a bit of real world experience of ownership if possible. Also happy to have piss ripped and completely different suggestions such is the STW way 😊

    Tassles on the jacket too?

    😂

I always saw that as more of a Honda Virago thing…

I don’t like this banning malarkey. I’ve been fairly relaxed and philosophical about the whole forum update thing because I’ve figured that it will get there in the end, but this banning of individuals that aren’t blatantly abusive, astroturfy or massive trolls sticks in my throat a bit. Would really like to hear a mods side of things before making my mind up, but I really don’t like it.

£50 seems more than reasonable. Don’t forget to tell the insurance company though; it’s in your terms and conditions! 😉

Especially love the second one; seems very relevant given the accusations.

Love Bercow. It takes one of their own to be able to PROPERLY wind in an über privileged, arrogant, self entitled Tory. Legend. Actually seems to have a sense of fairness, too.

junkjyard got a life ban for argueing IIRC

If that’s true, it’s a real shame. He IS an argumentative so and so, but he’s always got a point and his arguments are usually well thought out (spelling not so much, but meh 😉)

I always valued and enjoyed his contributions; this place would be a little poorer without him.

Agree completely. It’s astonishing though, the constant drip drip pressure of peers, society and family to ‘do the right thing’ when you’re in a happy, stable relationship. It’s like you have to actively find reasons* NOT to get married. And that can feel a little heartless if you’re not careful.

*having been married, this isn’t that hard. But still…

That’s going to be my reason for buying a PS4. No doubt in my mind.

Report him and he’ll be put down as you felt threatened.

😂 and it doesn’t matter if he even meant to threaten me, just whether I felt threatened… bonus!

Okay. Reported to 101 who seem to be taking it relatively seriously due to the actual threat of violence. I’ve mentioned it to the school who have made a note of the reg and the police ref no. Awaiting a call from a local bobby; will probably be ages as realistically it’s not particularly serious unless it escalated. Thanks for advice and opinions all.

That’s a very lovely Tesla. I do have a soft spot for estates though. So much nicer than flipping SUVs.

    Why weren’t you all cycling?

I’d bloody love to cycle. But with a 44 mile round trip morning and afternoon, I reckon I’d have to set off before I got home…

cant change to a closer school because its close to their mum, and they live 51% of the time with her.

I agree, especially if the OP was able to park somewhere else allowing plenty of space. It would almost feel like the OP had parked like a dick to make a point.

Ah, maybe. If you’re a paranoid self important nobber I suppose, you’re right.

or it could be that the OP had limited space to park without blocking drives or inconveniencing other road users?

police have better things to do.

Wouldnt want them to actually do anything about it as such; I’m just thinking about potential future escalation, either with me or some other hapless neat parker.

A 12 inch gap isn’t much, and would be an inconvenience if another car was parked that close behind him.

Looked like plenty of space to me, and he was in a mini FFS.

Get your children to bully his children

Ha! Excellent! Unfortunately the boys take after me…

If you feel threatened by somone even if the do not intend to be threatening it can be an assult.

    Is not backed up by

…is committed when a person intentionally or recklessly…

You’d have to prove that the ‘assailant’ has intent or was reckless. Bearing in mind that it’s to a criminal standard of proof, that’s going to be near to impossible, unless there actually WAS overt and obvious intent or recklessness.

No offence unless there was intent or recklessness. You can’t just go around being professionally offended.

I met some guys off the internet and they took me up the whangie.

    I’m sorry, what? 😳😳😳😂

Nice selection of rigs. I’ve always loved this sort of stuff, but never found another adult in RealLife™️ Who doesn’t think it’s a bit ridiculous 😏

Sbob appears to be trolling, plain and simple. He’s taken a fairly extreme position on one side of the debate and has then proceeded to bait angeldust. I can’t evidence it, but I don’t feel that his position is a genuine opinion, unlike Teej. I could be wrong, of course.

Bizarre thread is bizarre. Someone needs to set terms of reference for this discussion, because it appears that people are arguing over different things. Honestly, there’s more agreement than disagreement here.

they told me to leave the scene. I still feel guilty about that, as the driver was flashing his lights and tooting horn in distress as I drove off.

Thats just bizarre. Why would they, why would you do that?

    v8ninety

no-one would suggest that the right approach is to allow drunks to drive and for the others to learn how to spot them…

    Oh good lord. NO ONE is suggesting that mad dogs should be allowed to roam. But to take your analogy and run with it;

Drunk drivers should NOT be allowed on the roads. However, the DO exist and if you come across one, do you a) modify your behaviour if possible by putting as much space between them and you, or b) walk/drive/ride exactly the same way as normal, chuntering “bloody drunk drivers, shouldn’t be allowed on the roads” as you get smeared along the armco by the pisshead.

Sometimes it’s pragmatic to modify your behaviour, even if you shouldn’t have to.

    v8ninety

Just irks me a bit that you did indeed suggest by the quote above that random “mad” dogs on the trail are a thing that cyclists need to deal with.

I don’t think, in fairness to Angeldust, that he thinks that loose mad dogs are a good thing, I think he’s trying to talk about a theoretical situation where there already is a random mad dog, and is offering pragmatic ways of dealing with this. I don’t think that anyone is suggesting that dogs aren’t the owners responsibility, it’s just recognised that in the real world, some owners are dicks, and it’s a good idea to have tactics in place.

These threads are always bizarre; it always comes down to ‘this is how you deal with this’ vs ‘I shouldn’t have to deal with this!’. Neither are wrong, nor mutually exclusive, yet neither seem to be able to reconcile their position with the others.

    Especially TJ. 😉

And so starts the domino effect? We can but hope.

    v8ninety

if someone was massively phobic, incorrectly believed that they were in danger and ‘defended’ themselves, the law would side with them rather than the dog owner.

If we are drawing parallels with self defence law*, a persons belief that they were going to be attacked may not need to be reasonable, but their subsequent actions need to be reasonable and proportionate. So in Angeldust’s example, there would be no defence for a phobic dog fearer for deployment of some sort of preemptive strike. And any complaint about a dog that is under control and minding its own business is not going to get far.

*I don’t know if this is actually reasonable, but Cougar started it and it feels about right.

V8 I’m sure you’re normally one for “spirited” driving on most trafficy type posts, what’s up?

Spirited or otherwise, I’m one for ‘attentive and considerate to other human beings’ type driving. Nothing wrong with not being a dick.

Boo hoo!  God forbid you get some grit on your car.

It’s more the nuts, bolts, bits of lorry tyre, rusty chunks of exhaust, etc that I’d be concerned about. <redacted>

There’s bugger all wrong with using chevrons bordered with dashed lines.

Except you shower all the other road users around you with the grit and debris that has accumulated there, due to not many people doing it. Not particularly considerate for everyone else.
