the tyres were a bugger to get on them though, could do with new thumbs after that!

Not bad came in 3rd or 4th, missed a small loop out near the beginning, then took a wrong turn near the reservoirs so lost the time I had gained by missing the loop out! Rolled in at 2h20 so pretty chuffed :)

this is a good thread! Its making me feel better about the 7 i have!

Tried so hard to keep to a 4 bike policy. it lasted for a bit too! But last year went a bit crazy and bought 2x new cx bikes, and a TT bike too (this has only done 20 miles since september last year – good investment!)

Currently got:
26″ Hardtail
29″ Hardtail
TT Bike
2x Cross bikes
Old Cross Bike – now winter road bike
Carbon road bike

I just love building and messing with them though, and still find myself looking at frames etc on ebay.. luckily my wife is very understanding and supportive of my addiction. although every time a package arrives at the house i do feel a but like i’m pushing my luck!

right, i have left it to dry out, the battery has drained, i’ve even disconnected it. it powers on, but its like its permanently plugged in, so the charge/usb screen never goes off, and when in menu mode,the little plug is showing as if its plugged in!

could the socket have got damaged or corroded by water ingress??

got myself a flyxii 602 from aliexpress to replace my relatively heavy tcx2. i have just finished a season of cx racing on it and apart from a mech snappage due to deep sloppy mud a couple of weeks ago, the bike has been flawless all season. will continue to ride it on trails until next season and i’m also building a 2nd up as a spare too!!

running mud 2’s on crests, no problems at all!! tend to stick around 30-35 psi with no burping! good tyres

This is also my understanding of why tape and glue are used, to fill the gap between rim and cx tub!

If tape will help prevent rolling a tub off then I’m all for giving it a go.. Canny be arsed with that happening! :-)

Tried cx tubeless, with a mavic aksium rim and cx pro tyre which worked well until I hit a massive rock! The tubs will only be used for racing, so the low pressures without burping tyres etc will be a major advantage!

was thinking of using the belgian taping method, but havent done it yet, i’ve ordered some tape but dunno if i’ll use it yet!

alans blog is great for advice on tubs! There’s a few good ones, some suggesting the use of tapes, and others not bothering!

so again two layers, then glue, but they do take a bit of stretching.

Cheers for the advice! So, if there’s two dry layers on the tyre, two dry layers on the rim is it then a wet layer over the tape (if im gonna use it?)or on the rim then followed by mounting the tyre? (the tyre will have a dry layer of glue going on to the wet rim?) if that made sense

It’d be a shame if it wasn’t to run next year. I won’t be the only one to say how good the brownbacks series is! It’s really well organised, every course is a massive challenge and the prizes are awesome! And it’s on my doorstep – bonus!

fizik is easiest to clean. Zipp service corse cycloscross (made by lizard skins) if you want bling and thicker/grippier tape.

might give the fizik a try, what about the lizard skins dsp? any good?

have good results using stans sealant/rim tapes, so have never tried the joes stuff. HTH

i sometimes have the same feeling, currently got 4 in the garage, with another one in the pipeline.. Packages containing blingy bike bits arrive on pretty much a daily basis.. i always assume my mrs isnt gonna be happy about it. Truth is, she is fine with it and supports my hobby/obsession, so i am very lucky in that respect.

If it’s a car dealership, haven’t they got any wash/shower facilities and lockers for the mechanics that you could share ?

Unfortunately theres no facilities for showering! Bit of a PITA as it’d make things easier. However, i could probably manage without as if i dont tonk it on the way there i wouldnt really be very sweaty. I could leave clothing to dry out in another part of the site and store me bike!

Think this would be a bit easier as i usually am out on a 20-30 mile road/cx ride most nights anyway at least. so the distance wont be an issue. could always go a longer way home if needs be too!
