Looks like its just the chains that have gone up on the SRAM stuff at the moment.

That or they havent updated there b2b which is a more likely story 🙄

Load of crap. You should never have to pay anything on top of retail on anything cyclescheme.

Its true that the bike shop loses 10% of the voucher value but this on a retail price usually isnt too much of a problem unless the margin is dire.

On heavily reducded sale bikes (which are obviously sold with heavily reduced margin!) we do have to add on 10% to the cost of the bike as in certain cases doing them on cyclescheme would result in selling the bike at a loss.

If they are asking you to pay 10% on top of the RRP then just walk away. Plenty of places will do a CS bike over the phone and ship it out.

Snotrag Wolfridge frames were the 2007 Versions.

Tbh we could probably do one more (but weve only got smalls left) – weve just been splitting a few down full bikes (as we got so many at the time) into a few build kits to put onto a few frames we had left over and also onto some frames to run as demo bikes. They just sold a lot quicker than i expected £400 for a frame with a £330 rear shock probably has something to do with it!

Those Mavericks are an absolute steal – i looked at taking the lot from Extra aswell i dunno why i just didnt fancy them at the time, you win some you lose some! :o(

Yetis have arrived – some decent prices on the 08 turq 575s and i got a couple of ARC’s too but i might have to treat myself to one of these!

mickasaki – weve sold out of the wolf ridge frames now

Got some Yetis coming in in the next few days that will be nicely priced.

Also if youve got the capital availible to do it then there are certainly a few offer full bikes out there at the moment that you could split down and sell the parts on and end up with the frame for very little. With the price rises at the moment, brand new second hand (as daft as that sounds) kit is making decent money atm.

Same as above, 10% back on top for all heavily discounted bikes.

We still do stuff on sale at £999 (or similar), just invovles taking a £99 deposit on top of the voucher.

The first green one is apple green i think.

That neon green one with the green rims is vile! Ill be running mine with ex1750s which (in my head) i think will look ok!

Weve done 2 custom 5s (1 pro and 1 SE) in the neon green and they look fantastic. The P7s look superb in the new bright colours too.

Having sold literally hundreds of 46’s and E5’s over the past 2 years ive got to say we see very little back on them warrenty wise. The odd issue we do get is sorted out very quickly with no fuss what-so-ever. Even the lifetime bearing warranty only gets called upon a couple of times a year.

Price wise depends on the size to some extent, weve got the same bike new fairly cheap, but thats only because we have smalls left (which are nowhere near as saleable as a med/large).

Weve had very sporadic collections from PF and CL all week. So if anyone is experiencing any delays from any kit from Rutland give us a call and we can keep you upto date.

To be fair bigdug got the last one of the £1695 spots. Next 2 we sell will be £1795 then up to £1895. It doesnt feel right profiteering from price rises so just selling the first few at the RRP related to what we paid at the time.

Glad you like it – definatly my favourite colour of the 3 now ive seen it in the flesh.

Most i ever spent on a frame was my Intense Socom with a Digi Camo wrap (which cost intense $450) CCDB and Ti Spring… dont think ill ever spend that much again! 😯

MK’s are shockingly bad if they arent black chilli compound, otherwise pretty good. I find the 2.2’s produce a lot more grip than the 2.4s (especially when comparing the supersonics) as the 2.4 sidewalls just tend to fold under proper cornering loads.

High rollers are great tyres but ive always found a set of Minion Fronts on the front and rear, roll that bit faster and are more predictable/controllable on the limit. Now come in 2.35 kevlar bead flavour too. Perfect!

Glad we got you sorted Amos.

Weve got 3 well kitted out shops and 2 warehouses so do carry a lot of stock but with a website thats not yet fully linked to these stock levels its sometimes best to give us a quick call just to check weve got it before ordering, we also carry a number of items in the stores that arent listed on the website so if there is anything else your after its always worth asking. Phone calls are always answered and as ive said above anyone struggling call me direct and ill prod the right people into action!

At the end of the day i like riding my bike and nice kit and hate to wait for stuff as much as anyone else, so will always do my best to get people sorted asap!

The issue isnt just with XTR though.

    Just a few examples.

    XT Cass – £78.29
    XT Shifters – £107.65
    XT Chainset – £205.52
    XT Shad R Mech – £78.29

Now im well aware that once all the old stock has dried up and companies are purchasing at these new prices there will obviously be discounts on these prices but they arent going to be far off what you could get XTR for 6 months ago.

Deore is now pretty much what XT was a few months ago (except the chainset):

    Shifters – £68.50
    Chainset – £73.39
    R Mech – £48.93
    F Mech – £31.31

Sure the prices on the XTR are the headline grabbers but its the Deore/SLX/XT price increases that should be the biggest cause for concern. Plenty of times ive smashed up a rear mech out at a trail centre somewhere ad just popped into the shop for a £20-£25 deore to get me going and not spoil the ride. Now they are listed at £48.93, so your going to do well to get one from this type of shop for £40.. id probably pack up the bike and go home.

As for people spending large amounts on XTR, why let it bother you. It will still be purchased because it is the best, many people want the best regardless of price and regardless of wether or not they are a pro racer. Fact is its nice to have nice kit and most people will buy the nicest kit that they can justify to themselves. For many people this may be deore, for many others it will be XTR. Were all different and we all like different things so arguing about it is a pretty fruitless exercise. 😉

Hope are going to be offering their ‘hoop’ packages with Mavic/Stans rims in the coming months and they always tend to offer good value.

Might be worth waiting for these if your not in a massive rush.

Its a very difficult situation and as Ziggy says – the shops arent enjoying it either.

Were having to cope with prices rises on various products almost daily now – many of which we arent informed about until we go to order the product. The first shimano price rise from Madison we were informed of about 2 weeks in advance. The latest one which happened late on Saturday we didnt even have wind of (perhaps because of its scale to stop mass stocking in at the lower prices – i certainly would have, and have with companys who have let us know when prices are going up and what too i.e mojo on 1st feb).

Im in similar position from the other side. On saturday I quoted and took a deposit a custom build running full XT price matched to CRC – usually never a problem at all. Checked all cost prices and it was fine to do. First i heard of any new rises was at Core on Sunday night but didnt really take much notice. Came back on monday to order the stuff i needed to find it had all gone up.

Luckily had a decent amount of the kit i needed in stock already, but even with that and the leeway on the other prices were barely breaking even on the build – but managed to maintain the price for the customer.

Its a real problem, even worse online, can only suggest in the coming months for anyone after slx/xt/xtr to find the cheapest price, phone and check availibility and go from there, otherwise this problem is going to crop up more and more.

Just checked your order online and there seems to have been a problem with the 3D secure card security system for your order.

Give us a call on 01780 460705 tomorrow and ask to speak to Steve Bailey. Shorts should be in stock and he will get you sorted straight away.

Very sorry about any delay or inconvenience this has caused.

As for the stock control on the web, it will be improving in the coming months as were employing more staff keeping the site up to date. We’ve also just moved our web department into new offices ajoining our largest store and introduced a new order processing system (although in this case its this that has gone wrong). Were not going to be wiggle or crc inside 6 months, but we always answer the phone and try to provide a good honest service.

Anyone with a problem from STW is more than welcome to contact me directly (luke@rutlandcycling.co.uk or 01780 460705 ext39) and ill help in anyway i can.

I rode one a few months back on a dealer demo ride (spent a good hour on the bike). Was a nice enough bike to ride but it just didn’t inspire me. Climbed ok, descended as you would expect a long travel trail bike too, but it just didn’t seem to make much sense to me.

If you absolutely have to just own just 1 bike, ride proper tech trails and spend a decent period in the Alps every summer then maybe so. But I still think that even in this case a 5 with a talas 36 or pike would be less of a compromise.

Everything above is of course purely opinion, I’ve ridden and owned a lot of bikes but this one just didn’t register as special even though im generally a fan of their bikes.

Bear in mind that a little bit of play at the mounting point is a design feature… its a compromise but it needs to be there.

On a shimano RM the top jockey wheel has a little bit of ‘float’ to aid in smooth shifting. They have the patent on this and so the Sram needs to run a solid upper jockey wheel (at least when new – they do get sloppy over time) and so the float is built into the mounting bolt.

Obviously over time this wears and they do get floppy, the new ones are much better than previous incarnations but they do seem to have a useful lifespan less than that of there Shimano counterparts. However i usually find i pringle them on a rock well before this stage 😥

I didnt have a poploc on mine but ive never used a lockout on a fork despite having them on most of the ones ive used in the last few years!

The ones on offer have a pushloc not a poploc (which is much nicer). Full boxed retail 09 forks.

Might have to treat myself just incase i ever get round to building a new 5spot actually, just checked the new cost price… 😯

I had 32’s / pikes / 36s on mine at various stages. Pikes probably suited it best but to be fair they were the only ones with travel adjust. Descended almost as well as it did with the 36s but climbed better than both when wound down to 120mm.

Had 3 pairs of those pikes left in stock as of this afternoon.

You can usually make a little puller out of parts in your bits box.

    20mm 1″1/8th headset spacer
    Headset top cap
Long top cap bolt (usually get them with avid post mount brake bolts)
A bolt and a few washers for the bearing side.

oh and a 5mm allen key to turn it with 🙂

Pressure loss when you put the pump back on is due to a set amount of air in the chamber then expanding into a slightly larger volume (+ pump hose and gauge) hence less pressure.

The negative chamber on a rev is MUCH smaller than the positive therfore as a percentage of total volume the pump hose/gauge assembly is higher and so the pressure loss will always seem to be higher.

Not a problem with the fork just something to remember and dont stick in 40psi extra like some people do!

The black chilli comment is very valid, ive used both and the difference in wet grip is huge.

I also find that the 2.2 is a much better tyre than the 2.4. Because of the large lightweight sidewall on the 2.4 it just tends to fold under hard cornering whereas the 2.2 tends to hold its shape better and dig in more.

Its exactly the same with the Speedkings, the 2.3s are awful and the sidewall is wider than the edge of the tread on some rims. The 2.1’s on the other hand are superb.

08 Caldera’s can be had for £500. Not bad especially when an 09 will set you back £850 and is downgraded!
