The FIA has revealed the 13 teams that will provisionally make up the 2010 Formula 1 grid – with all ten present incumbents on the list, two anticipated newcomers and one bolt from the blue.

The newcomers to the fray are Team USF1, Campos Grand Prix and, somewhat surprisingly, Manor Grand Prix

Gizzardman ill be honest im unashamedly Turner biased!

The are my own personal favourite frame manufacturer (style/build quality/backup/bushing lifetime) and ive loved all 4 ive owned previously. Now coupled with my own personal favourite suspension linkage (after 2 great years on a Sunday 05/06 – and ive just bought a new one!) so they are like a perfect package in my eyes.

However putting on my sensible hat which i have to wear at work and when im speaking to customers they arent for everyone. Some peoples riding style just suits single pivot / horst link bikes more, saying that; aldomac on here got one from me to replace his Orange 5 and from speaking to him since is getting on very well with it. The general consensus from everyone ive sold one too or have spoken to thats ridden one is that its a damn fine bike, some people mention the weight and it is a little fatter than some other frames but im sure that and the DW go some way into the planted/solid feel that it has over most other bikes in the same category.

Price obviously comes into it too – RRP on the frame is 2k and for that you can buy a Trance X2 off the peg which is a super bike with a great spec. However your buying something more with the Turner, its a boutique bike and something quite special which you will be very proud to own.

Ive ridden pretty much every 09 5 inch bike this year (with exception to Trek and SantaCruz offerings) and would rate my top 5 in all round ability as 5Spot -> E120 -> Zesty -> Five -> Trance X although the Zesty may jump to no2 after I give it some licks at Chicky tomorrow 🙂

    *Removes sensible hat*
Oh and most important of all they just look awesome 😆

If you need any more info just drop me a line. I did have a bit of a deal on the frames at BRL too which i could probably extend for you, and also a killer price on a full build which is on the site.

Surely your shooting up not down from P’boro Jamie! I guess your about halfway between our Rutland and Grafham stores though. Might be worth popping down to Graf this w/e as its the demo w/e and we always sort out a deal on any decent stuff bought off the back of it over the two days.

MrSmith – I dont know what Madison are playing at to be honest, if anyone gets a little cheeky with pricing on the bikes we sell and i point it out to the Importer its usually changed within hours.

No problem at all ton, ill have a word with them tomorrow and see what they say. I rock in at just over 10.5 so the other option is for me to set up our stock one and sit on it twice 😀

The whole Merlin thing at the moment is pretty good for the consumer. I mean 20-30% off a current model bike is good yeah!

Its all well and good but many of the small-medium sized dealers (who don’t get the margins the biggest dealers get) to sell these bikes to most customers (who in the current climate are very price savvy) are going to have to match merlin on price (who have been doing this level of discount on the bikes since pretty much the start of the season). In doing so they are going to struggle to break even in some cases.

Because of this there is going to be less and less sign ups and more dealers dropping them as a brand, why on earth stock something you cant make money on or struggle to shift when there are other manufacturers that to an extent protect the pricing of their goods until they see fit.

Im not saying discounting is a bad thing, were as guilty as most for shagging prices from time to time but whenever ive bought in bulk (which is quite regularly) to do offer prices on bikes ive always been totally up front with the company telling them how much im going to sell for, sometimes we raise advertised prices because of this to keep them happy. July 1st is a date set with a number of brands we deal with to start advertising discounts on current bikes from RRP.. not Jan 1st!

Commencal’s are great bikes, i even own a Meta 666 unfortunatly in a year or so’s time when i snap a mech hanger (or the frame ) i wont be able to get it sorted at an lbs!

The more ive been looking at this bike for Ton as this post has developed the more i keep thinking it would make a fine replacement for the meta!

Not sure then ton, do you have a link to the tech sheet? Ive always known rear floats to be min50 max300 but i guess this is a pretty big shock compared to most standard ones.

    What ratio is the ventana?

    v10
    Free Member

216mm i2i shock so it must be the 8.5×2.5 they are using.

    160mm travel – 63.5mm stroke = 2.52

High volume shock on these too so id imagine they run fairly low pressures.

Yeah works out at about 19.5″. They seem to size up pretty big HTT is 24.2inch.

I was writing about the Zesty (514) not the Spicy youve changed it too!

Ive not ridden one but if it descends better than the Zesty, which lets be honest its going to, its likely to be one hell of a bike.

Stock situation better on these too, S M L all in stock!

Just got back from Cannock today after taking Hotlines demo bike out for a spin. Just signed up to do a couple of 09 bikes to get a foot hold before going in properly for 2010. Wanted to do a new euro brand and was between these and Commencal but with Merlin doing all they can to destroy Commy as a brand i went for these. Hence why ive got the demo to play with for a few weeks.

After all the magazine hype and reviews on these things i almost didn’t want to like the bike and ‘jump on the bandawagon’ as such but its VERY difficult not to like them. Sure there are 5 inch bikes that climb a little better but the only thing ive ridden thats almost similar in terms of the bikes attitude and descending ability are the Marin Wolf Ridge range but these carry a pretty hefty weight penalty over the Zestys. It does just beg to be ridden harder, only complaint i did have was with the width of the bar but speaking to Rick the new bikes are all coming through with a wider stock LP bar.

Ive got my heart set on a new 5spot when i get back from France in mid July but for a few hundred quid extra over the price of the frame i can get one of these off the peg with few changes needed to the spec to get it to how id want it. ARGH – difficult decisions. Chicksands tomorrow with it so it should swing me one way or the other.

Problem will probably be getting hold of one this year, they are sold out in all sizes at Hotlines (i manged to get 1m and 1l in the 514 but id have taken lots more if i could) so its just whats left at dealers… Might just screw it and get the 914 instead, will work out about the same as my Turner would 😆

Best – I love my little 172cup – for all its little faults it just makes me smile whenever I drive it. However best is definitely the Megane R26.R i had the pleasure of playing in a few months ago, epic epic car.

Worst – City Rover! Was given to me as a hire car for 3 days. Words simply cannot describe how awful it was.

Ive just bought my 2nd Sunday after a 2 year break on a 224 and a Socom, Socom was a very quick bike especially when fitted with a ccdb, but it simply just wasnt as confidence inspiring as the Sunday or even my old DHR and it wasnt great under braking.

Warranty/Parts obviously worries some people but Jim Walker still have enough spares to last a good while and will also honour any warranty claims. With the sheer numbers of these bikes that are going to be in use over the next few years if spare bolt kits ever run short then im sure someone like betd will start producing something.

That new Glory just looks wrong, might be the photo but just looks to short and too high 🙁

I thought it was a pretty good day; didnt really get time to have a proper look about as i was flat out all day (i was on the Rutland stand) but from what i saw most people seemed to be enjoying themselves and were in good spirits but i think the weather certainly helped.

Yeah retail space wise it is pretty small, were actually running Burton McCalls stand for them and in return we got to fill what space is left on it, with our products but were only informed of this 2 weeks ago so considering the timescale we didn’t do too badly! It was a tricky one to judge, i personally didn’t want to hark back to the bike show of old which was basically a car boot sale so just took some nice kit to give people an idea of what we do.

Im there again all day tomorrow so if anyone wants to say hello just pop on over! We have Rutland Cycling Rock and its yummy! 😀

    Which is today!

Just logged into the couriers and its at the delivery branch.

As for the E5, its back with us now and as said above its totally buggered, both dropouts just slide in and out of the frame with very little resistance. Obviously something gone wrong at the bonding stage but ill let you know what ATB make of it once its gone back.

They do ride very differently to the Five, if youve had it a long time it will take a bit of getting used too, ive ridden them both decent amounts and the Five is a superb bike but if i had to choose it would be the Turner.

    Hope you like it!

Ive been eyeing one of these up recently, X1/X2 and frames are pretty much sold out country wide so the X3 Split option is definatly the way forward.

Rode a standard spec x1 with a riser bar on it and was impressed but as mentioned above its a little steep, just as an experiment though i dropped some 120mm Reba maxle lite onto it and it totally transformed the bike. Tiny loss in the climbing ability but with the slacker HA its just so much more stable at speed on singletrack and decents. As a light fast trail centre ripper there isnt much that can compete with it at the price with this setup.

Ive just bought a Unit 29 frame which im going to be building up over the next few weeks. Dedacciai tubing, lovely colour and not that much more than an inbred if you know where to look!

Just checked and DT List it as 532mm. Im pretty sure its actually 539mm.

As a roughish rule 0.5mm diff in ERD equates to 0.3mm in spoke length.

7mm diff in ERD therefore a 4.2mm longer spoke (or nipple) which is pretty much what i found.

    v10
    Free Member

Double check the ERD on that 719 Rim from whats given on the DT Calc as ive built a few of these recently and have needed to go 4mm longer (or use 16mm nipples) each time.

    Hello,

I rang you the other day to arrange collection on this! 🙂

Weve sold 50+ 08 E5 Works (on top of many more 06 and 07 E5’s) and this is the first weve had to deal with with a carbon bondage issue. Only other one was bad tolerance on the front shock bushings as the shuttle is so stiff it wont pinch the shock very hard and the odd bearing change (which are lifetime anyway).

New one is all booked in to ship on Wednesday but if you do want to discuss some other bike options give me a call tomorrow.

The front hubs all come with qr and either qr15 or 20mm conversion cups (the more xc oreintated rims come with the 15mm conversions but we can obviously swap these to 20mm to suit).

The rear hub comes as QR only but we always carry 135x12mm conversion kits in stock which can obviously be fitted into the hub. You would be looking at about a £15 up charge for one of these.

On the off chance your after a set of HH Flows then give me a shout, just about to advertise a brand new set as ive just paid for a set to upgrade my better halfs IH 6 point only to find/remember they are 150 back ends! 😐

Ash cycles are showing Giant Defy 2.5 at £620. Would be a good buy at that.

Ive been running 355s on the XC and Flows on the 4x bike for a while now and had no issues what so ever, was initially worried about the lack of eyelets but they have so far seemed to have been unfounded. Running both setups with one layer of yellow tape and standard tyres and have no issues what so ever with seating or burping.

MM those wheels will probably be with you tomorrow, i don’t work in the web department but i know they robbed a pair of 355 Hoops out of my Bike Radar stock pile today so i assume they were for you!

    Argh choices choices!

Rode a few 29ers at the weekend, they fly once up to speed but felt really ‘dead’ under acceleration.. based on that i thought id probably plum for the 26 but having finally got round to having a look at the frames today while they were out for photos the 29 frame in the green looks loads better, some im going to have a punt with that and see how i get on 🙂

Daffy ive made a claim on that late postage, should have it back in the next few days and ill refund you.

Daffy, sorry ive not emailed, been working some long days at work and i cant access them from there. Ive claimed with city-link with the wheels being a day late and ill have the invoice on Monday to find out how much it will be. Will send over whatever i get back.

Right of to work AGAIN, least its our demo w/e so ill be outside instead of being stuck in the office. If anyone is planning on coming its not raining… yet! 😆

Oh and the bike looks awesome 8)

No worries Will, yeah we do Charge (although for some reason they aren’t on the website, ill get a grom onto that tomorrow!). Usually have a few blenders of various formats in stock across the stores so that wont be a problem. Just drop me a line nearer the time and ill get you sorted.

Cheers for the info Jason, its always imagined they would be a little bit slower to get going and in the tech stuff, but once up to speed a bit quicker and smoother on the rough, what you say seems to tally with that. Sounds like it will be best for the riding im doing but ill have a dabble at the weekend and see how i get on!

    Cheers Aw

Id be going for an 18″ (had lots of Kona 18″ HT in the past and they all seem to be bang on), standover wont be an issue im 5’10 but have 35″ IL (yes i know im shaped like a girl!). 16 would be too short, certainly seems close for you looking at your saddle position!

Will, will check my mail in a minute, if your fairly local id have no reservations what so ever about ordering one in for you (with no obligation) for you to try. If i buy one and like it ill no doubt start selling the things anyway! 16″,18″,19″ all in stock at Paligap 20″,22″ are TBC.

Biggest regret was selling my 172cup. Everything else i owned/drove afterwards just left me feeling bored. So 6 months later i bought another one :-). Its horribly built, the electrics are dire, the ride and noise make me go mad, but every time I come close to selling this one I go for a decent drive or a track day and it just makes me fall in love with it again. No matter what ive got i think until i build a garage i can keep a catherham in ill always keep this one for play time.

And i can get 2 dh bikes in the back!

Cheers Will, I work at Rutland Cycles 😆

Weve got them listed on the Website but dont carry them instore just get them when required, weve got a Rockhopper 29er on the demo fleet but its the wrong size. Should be one that fits me at the Demo weekend this weekend so i can have a quick spin but just wanted some other peoples opinions.

Still got the X.9 Shifters, did you email me about them?

Daffy, i figured that might be the case, guess ill just have to give it a go! Those wheels should have been there on Friday, was there a failed delivery then or did they just arrive today? If they just arrived today let me know and ill claim the shipping costs back and send it your way.

Ive ridden our demo one a few times, very quick bike and very light for a sub 1k machine. Pretty sure the Reba’s come as standard at 100mm, if you can live with the colour then you wont really go wrong. Bars are also a billion times better than any of the other 09 RH’s which usually require an immediate upgrade.

They arent super slack but 71.6 doesn’t sound right (although it does state that on the website!).

One of the reviews doesnt match up either:
    Clicky

Whyte says there is only a slight difference when it comes to the ride. Fitting a 100mm fork to the frame does have a more pronounced effect; it steepens the head angle from 69 to 70.5 degrees and lowers the bottom bracket by half an inch

    Who knows!

An other option is a Commencal Super 4 but im not sure how this would handle the 140 fork.
