I have a few pairs of Five Ten pre Adidas. All are size 10. Ordered the new Trail Cross Pro this week in a 10. Sent straight back and now have a 9.5. The 10’s were really long.

This will need to take place through a restructure or job evaluation. This could be for the whole school or a limited part of it, admin, non-teachers, teachers etc. The documentation needs to be in place to highlight the rationale and the structure in place now vs how it will be. There will be an opportunity to interrogate it during the consultation phase. However it will be a consultation and will not necessarily be an opportunity to change things. But that can happen.

WCOLT has a point about procedure. There is a legally set out process with timeframes to be adhered to. You can be made redundant if on maternity/paternity leave. There is no default protection but the process of consolation must be fair and include all. To flip it, if there were protection then all employees who were not on maternity/paternity would be discriminated against.

3 years protection is pretty standard for teaching staff but not non-teaching. Two or even sometimes 1 year protection is more of the norm for TAs, so 3 years is pretty good and would suggest that this is particular to the local authority even if the school happens to be an academy. Most academies and MATs follow the standard local authority/national terms and conditions of employment. Burgundy, green and blue books are how they were referred to in the past and relate to the national agreements. The Burgundy book for example is teaching staff. Staff may have transferred under TUPE and therefore have legacy protection if the employer has changed – Local Authority to Academy for example. Regardless 3 years is good. A lot can change in that time.

My advice is to make sure that your GF is fully aware of the terms and conditions of her employment and how that would change moving forward. I would recommend being in a union. You never know when you might need them. Depending on how far down the timeline things have gone some unions may be reluctant to represent if not already a member. However some will. There are a number of options for TAs.

Go from back to front on the V3. Keep the cable as straight as possible as possible as you feed it through the lower hole in the front range. The hose/housing can get gouged up a bit as you push it and then pull it through. As I was shortening by brake hose I did cut it and just put some electrical tape around the end. There was no issue with fluid getting anywhere at all.

Tried a Zee but didn’t like. Depending on the bottle the cage wouldn’t hold it straight or fully in, CB podiums. I have a 5010 so needed a cage that would allow side access to clear the shock.

Now using a Wolf Tooth Morse on one bike (made by King) and a King cage on the other. Standard shaped cages but I can get the bottle in and out at an angle to clear the shock, even a large CB Podium.

Quite happy with this one https://amzn.to/2PWGyax but they aren’t cheap.

Folds quite small and you can get a storage bag for it (costs even more!)

You could get one of those wall ones and fix it to the one of the barn doors on the van.

Rode out of the Bike Centre today (as usual). The cafe and shop are open as usual. It’s amazing how fast they have been able to turn things around.

We rode up through Grinton towards the YH before peeling off right (Hargill Lane) then picked up the track that heads back to Harkerside across Grinton Gill Trib (Grovebeck Gill) and then back down the track (we call it Vomit – Harker Mires) down Swale Hall Lane. There has been a fair bit of water down there so plenty of rocks and ruts to tackle. Would be pretty unrideable the opposite way up.

We then picked up the Swaledale trail – Low Lane Track. Road is fine but the trail is chewed up in places. Nothing a MTB can’t handle but would be pretty sporty on a gravel bike. Evidence of some land slides higher up.

    Gunnerside was pretty quiet.

We climbed up to white hill up the road through the electric gate. No real evidence of any heavy rain fall. We then took the decent back down to Gunnerside (from Barf End). Great run no issues. A quick tab along the Reeth road and a climb up the Low Row/Langthwaite road. At the ford there was clear evidence of plenty of water having gone through. Big boulders and slices of road moved. After the ford we climbed the road (super steep bit) and picked up the track that heads down to Raw Bank/Arkle Town. Again all good.

However from Raw bank it is clear to see that Fremington Edge in its entirety has taken a beating. Plenty of land slides evident that cut across bridleways and foot paths. The low bridleway (transition Ard Rock Stage 2) will be wiped out in parts and is best avoided. I suspect that from what we have seen (from a distance) that anything on that side should be avoided until landowners and park rangers have a chance to check it out.

Harkerside, Reeth High/Low Moors, Gunnerside etc are good to go.

I used the blue Rock N Roll stuff for both the road and mountain bike but switched to Wend Wax in December. First on the mountain bike after a call to Jam Cycles. They knew of people using it for Cyclocross and it had worked well. So I gave it a good. It is lasting really well in-between rides. Super easy to clean and reapply. No issues in the mud/grit of the North York Moors or a winter of riding in the Dales. Now use it on all of the bikes and don’t plan on getting anything else.

As others have said the regular maintenance is the key.

I have been using Sweet Bushwacker lids for years and have crashed whilst wearing both MIPS and Non-MIPS versions. I think I’ve written off one non-MIPs and two MIPS. The last off was a corker with broken ribs and fairly hefty wack to my head. It’s fair to say the helmet did it’s job well. I’ll continue to use MIPS helmets. I also have a Sweet Falconer road helmet with MIPS.

Used a Hope one with the adaptors but didn’t like the fact that you have to drift the adaptors out to get access under the plastic cover to clean it up/add grease. After much searching ended up getting a C Bear bottom bracket. Now run them on all of my bikes.

I made the daisy chain. Lots of sewing. The seat belt tape runs the whole length of the bag on both sides. I then stitched 25mm on to it for around 2/3rds of the bags length on both sides.

I have been using a Monster Bike bag for years. The bag has been modified over the years, but the bikes have got bigger, handlebars wider and the old bike bag was pretty much at the limit for my bike. I’ve been meaning to make a new one for ages and got around to it this week.

Big fan of Rab. If you are close to their base near Sheffield they have a factory shops. Was 12pm on a Weds/Thurs. Picked up two ex display winter bags a few years ago.

Rock N Run have Mountain Hardware on sale, they make some great bags.

Had V2 for a couple of years and now on the V3. I don’t think you will have any issue. I had a Blur TRA with the CTD shock (26″ 5010) and the shock wasn’t great. The move to the newer shock and 27.5″ was like night and day.

We had three in loft last year. No idea how they got up there, house is new no holes, probably got under the eaves.

Bought the Big Cheese traps from Amazon. One sorted within 1 hour. Another the next day and then a couple of days after that.

I bought one of those sonic things as we have power in the loft have left it in place.

I have left the traps in the loft primed and have a quick look when I’m up there. No traps triggered and no sign of mice at work.

My little girl was at Ard Rock for the last two years.  She’s five.  She loved the atmosphere. She likes bikes, live music and eating chips.  There is a kids pump track but she’s too unstable on a bike for that. We had alsmot two full days there.  Plan to camp 2019 if I get in.

Mrs took the little one to the bottom of stage 1 and she loved cheering riders on.  If it was chucking it down it would have been a different story!

I picked up a Canyon Endurace 8.0 SL last year.  That year it had 105 front to back with disc brakes.  For the money you get a really good setup.  That was £1500 in the sale.

I’ve been very impressed, it’s light enough, runs tubeless and its pretty comfortable.  Very stiff frame with bolt through front and back. 100km rides are straight forward with no pain or discomfort.  The only thing I have swapped out has been the saddle.

My monster bag is heading the same way. Plenty of holes.  I had modified it early doors so it had better handle placement and no long shoulder strap.  I’ll be using my sewing skills to make a replacement.  The new one will be slightly bigger to accommodate my wider bars.  Going to add a few other features to make it easier to load and upload.

I couldn’t ride this year as bust a couple of ribs a few weeks back.  Took photos on both the Saturday (Stages 1 and 2) and a few on Stage 1 (woods) on Sunday.

    https://www.rootsandrain.com/photos/unsponsored-media/

I had the impression that there were way less riders on Saturday.  More space between.  Sunday were setting off 25 every five minutes.

Atmosphere was great.  Little girl loved it. I will be camping next year with some riding and photos mixed in.
