Almost certainly IS. I’d move asap if I were you but it’s probably too late if they already have photos.

At the risk of engaging someone so obviously willfully missing the point, are you really saying the best place for a child to learn to think critically is a faith school? Nope, no inherant contradiction there is there?

Put it this way, I’m not a big fan of the current UK government. That doesn’t mean I have a problem with each and every civil servant in the country.

Absolutely! The teachers at my daughters catholic primary school may think they’re fooling me, and others, with their shameless masquerading as well-rounded, decent caring professionals, but I know that beneath the thin veneer they’re up there with Hitler or Pol Pot. They are the living embodiment of distilled evil!

It’s not the people I hate, it’s the organisations.

There is a lovely irony in people having such blinkered and hate-filled views regarding another group for being blinkered and having hate-filled views.

As I said, people are welcome to beleive whatever nonsense they want, I’ve no problem with that. It’s the organisations of religion that are evil, set up to indoctrinate the young and prey on the weak, vulnerable and stupid. It’s not the people I hate, it’s the organisations.

Not a chance in hell (if you’ll pardon the pun) that I’d let my child go to a religious school of any flavour. Of course people are free to believe whatever fairy stories they want, but the organisations that peddle these fictions are nothing short of evil. I think it’s staggering and not a little sad that in 2016 they’re still allowed to involve themselves in children’s education in this way.

Still got no idea how the OP could imagine that a V40 is the ‘best’

Did you read the OP? I said it was near perfect for my needs, then said I wasn’t suggesting it was the the[/I] best. Although it does tick all the boxes you listed (except auto)…

To be fair I’d say that religious tolerance is clearly one of Jambaliar’s better qualities. Along with self-awareness and a keen sense of irony. Oh, and rooting out extremism, obviously.

Assuming new, and that you value a bit of performance over mpg, it’s hard to look past the Golf R estate.

There are quicker or cheaper or more economical or more comfortable cars, but not at the same time. Nigh-on 300bhp, 4WD, comfortable, easy to live with, so safe it costs very little to insure, 35mpg, and everyone outside of the car nerd world just thinks it’s an ordinary Golf.

See, now that’s a sensible answer to what was a genuine question. I’m fully aware there is no “right” answer but that wasn’t that hard was it?

I’m not in the market for a new car, just idle curiosity. I remember in the mid/late 90s Clarkson said the BMW 5 Series was the best all round car in the world. Just wondered what today’s equivalent would be (other than a new 5 series, obviously).

He embraced Scotland and Glasgow. He was so proud to be a Glaswegian and so loyal to the city

Pakistani born but if he thought of himself as Scottish that’s good enough for me.

I’d say his point was that Jambaliar called him a Pakistani shopkeeper. As for points, I’m struggling to see one in the OP.

I usually get my firewood for free but if you drop it off I’ll make you a cup of tea?

Yes and no. The wiper blade comment was a bit flippant but when I was into bangernomics I’d buy cars for £200-400 and be happy if I got a year out of them, though most lasted longer than that. £1000 is a cheap car, and probably worth a bit of maintenance. At £250 more or less anything you can’t do yourself writes it off, and even then I don’t want to spend my limited time off dicking about under the bonnet of an old car.

Are you really talking about bangernomics or just a cheap car? The whole point of bangernomics is that you buy as cheaply as possible and at the first sign of anything bigger than a headlight bulb or a wiper blade needing replaced you just leave it by the side of the road and start again. You don’t buy on how easy something is to fix, you buy on how long it will last without needing fixed.

I’ve got one of those and really like it. The QR was a bonus for me as I can swap in a set of 29er wheels I already had. Well worth £800 I’d say (although mine’s on bike to work).

Well they’re a trusting and well balanced lot aren’t they? Being friends with a woman is clearly tantamount to an “emotional affair”.

Virgin trains bumped me to first class this morning because the ticket machine at Waverley forgot to print one of my tickets. I was just expecting a new ticket but the guy said it was a thank you for not being an arse. How little he knows me…

Never mind the pie skirmish, I promise anyone who says mac n cheese will be first up against the wall when the revolution comes. It’s macaroni cheese you cretins.

Woe betide anyone who orders a mac n cheese pie within my earshot.

Thanks all, I’m pretty sure this is baby related one way or another as our relationship was never like this before. I’m not holding it against her at all, but maybe I need to find a different/better way to be supportive. She’s going back to work in a couple of months and I know that will be very hard to her so no doubt thats playing on her mind too. I don’t think she sees my side much so I’ll try and gently explain it. If I never post on here again then thats not gone well and I’m under the patio…

I’m sure I’m not blameless but I’d argue I do as much as I can, I’d do more if I were allowed. I seem to have been removed from the decision making process when it comes to junior, any attempt at discussion or difference of opinion is taken as a deeply personal stinging attack on her parenting skills.

I can appreciate it must be hard for her to see me come in from work every day when she’s been looking after baby all day. I fully appreciate the sacrifices she’s made, and tell her so, but she doesn’t seem to recognise that it’s hard for me too. I’d love to spend more time with them both but I’m working hard to provide for the family.

The parents thing is a good idea, any suggestion from me that I’m anything other than a total dick is unlikely to go down well!

Anyone else laughing at the irony of Johndoh’s post, he who can’t take a shit without asking on here?

Isn’t he the guy who whacked his kids in the face with his old chap? I was just wondering if that or a crayon is more damaging in the long run.

The D4 is a 2.0 diesel I think, 0-62 in 7.4 seconds and I get an average indicated mpg of about 55, that’s with a fair chunk of stop start driving in town.

It’s not huge in the back but easy big enough for bikes with the seats down. I’m not sure if it has mounts but the xc models come with roof bars.

For me, it’s close to the perfect car, nice to be in, not too big/small, drives pretty well but not at the expense of comfort, quite quick but still economical. I sat in a golf and didn’t even bother driving it, just felt like a depressing place to be. I had a 118d BMW for a while too, it was nice enough but I prefer the Volvo.

In STW tradition I’ll recommend what I have – Volvo V40 in D4 r-design flavour. I looked at Audi A3 and the Golf GTD but preferred the Volvo to both of them. It’s quite quick, pretty frugal and does a nice cruise on the motorway.

We, the members of the Science and Security Board of the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists, want to be clear about our decision not to move the hands of the Doomsday Clock in 2016: That decision is not good news, but an expression of dismay that world leaders continue to fail to focus their efforts and the world’s attention on reducing the extreme danger posed by nuclear weapons and climate change.

    Delight?

Some interesting reading in there re. the folly of Trident renewal too.

Just for balance I’ll add that I’ve seen the Yeah Yeah Yeahs a few times and they’ve never been less than excellent. Also saw the John Squire era above and he was great (must have got him on a good day) and Motley Crue recently were awesome.

I’ll agree that the non-slash G’n’R were pretty ordinary and Kings of Leon c. 2003 were bloody awful live.

I’ve been twice and love the place. Try and stay outside the main resorts and you avoid the brits abroad but it’s so small it’s easy to get around. Gozo is a great option if you like quiet. You can’t move for old churches but there’s plenty more to see, Mdina, hypogeium, Neolithic temples etc. There are some nice small beaches if you seek them out, any guide book will list them. Not much in the way of hill walking as such but plenty of walks to do.

That’s a real shame about the Cambus. Spent many a happy summer day jumping off that bridge, one of my favourite spots in the world as a result.

Don’t make the mistake of confusing reliability with validity. A broken compass could consistently point north when I’m facing east, it’s reliable but not valid.

As for accuracy… the test asks you what you’re like, you tell it what you’re like ( based on meaningless binaries), then it tells you what you’re like (based on meaningless binaries). Throw in a bit of confirmation bias and of course it seems accurate. It’s still total guff though.

Saxon, geetee, I have a degree in Psychology and just last month I finished a masters in Occupational Psychology. For once on here, I actually know what I’m talking about! I know very much the science behind legitimate tools and sadly the damage to their credibility that rubbish like myers briggs causes.
