  • British Cycling: Will new structures benefit MTB riders?

A section of singletrack, a stock retail bike and a times board. Bit like the 1:04 or whatever its called Dirt [?] have.

enthusiast (not pro) mtber, DHers, Roadies, taking part in events helmet came and mic as they do it talking about the experience – a la Warners track rides for the world cup.

Aimed at every man, not just bling carbon nonsense but affordable bikes viewer could afford.

Doesn’t have to be aimed at noobies on a knowledge level either, in this age if someone doesn’t know what something is they can look it up. Shouldn’t be obscure, but they don’t need to explain eeverything

Safety stuff is fine, but in a straight forward way – with a demonstration, shots from driver point of view to demonstrate blind spot etc.

    d4:

Gotta support a cycle show & they’re bound to read this so a bit constructive criticism rather than just slating it may help it develop into something good?

Fair point, and I do support it and will keep watching. My constructive critisism

1 – Too much chat, not enough substance, with only half an hour it needs a strong structure.
2 – Please don’t patronise (how to put a helmet on your head), less gloss and that safety bit could have been really informative.
3 – In fact 90 seconds a week on safety could actually be very valuable from a public service point of view 1 week, lorries, next week – roundabouts, third week – catching drivers eyes and clearly communicating with them. I felt you wasted that bit, and 60 seconds up front with a silly introduction that just made me dislike the guy presenting it
4 – Olympic road race bit, as said above introduce your riders, give us a map of the route you’re riding. Give us a sense of the challenge. That segment just kind of stopped with no conclusion.
5 – Rather than a rag tag group of mixed ability maybe you could have got a local road group to race 2 laps of the course. Proper road riders, who know can say how the hill will play out in a race from a knowledgeable point of view.

those are bit negative, so positives

6 – Heck you’re trying something new. great stuff. Please don’t give up, please play about with the formula.

7 – You do have a compus mentus adult presenting it, not some kid using hip words and trying to be ‘down’ with me. In that regard the tone was bang on.

For more idea please see Rob Warners course rides for last years Downhill World cup, there’s segment in there, hopefully your journalist attempted the mega??

More Obree, Less mansell. But they’d have to make this week about TdF and Olympics… I’m not judging until week 3.

    The solution already exists!

    Just Take spare pads:

Pull out the soggy ones (chuck them in your pack to dry out later) and velcro the dry spare ones in when you stop for tea and cakes…

    No need to thank me….

But… That’s… genius! And obvious yes, very obvious, like the cat flap, but I had yet to think of it. May good none cold damp karma rain down upon thee!

Yeah when they finally sent me the wrong fork I had to pay the return, and then sent them the receipt… 6 weeks of my life I never got back.

I’m not actually complaining, sorry, may have been too dry. I’m actually pretty chuffed. Their returns process is very good. Open parcel – find sticker – close parcel – apply sticker – take to one of the many special places – receive full refund.

By the by, meta framesets… bargain.

Ah…. glad you said. I have had a few nightmares with them quite a while ago (5+yrs), but they always have good prices and I was considering giving them another shot. Think I’ll look elsewhere…

until I hear of the joys of de-gloving injuries (it doesn’t mean taking off your glove). Now I wear them all the time.

Flat mate did this, just what it sounds like except he wasn’t wearing gloves to begin with. I say he did it. Someone in Leeds rush hour traffic did it for him, but you get the idea…

I wear them because I hate losing all the skin off the heel off my palms when I inevitable fall off and put an arm out.

I’ve eaten very slightly hairy bacon, and been fine. Dry cured from my local butcher though, not supermarket stuff.

I follow the needlessness of bash on XC, but I guess i was also forgetting that very few 150mm travel bikes ever come with a bash, but previously they did come with 3 chainrings so bash was easily fitted. I suspect I thought that as well as now putting short stems on as standard bike companies would put a bash on as standard, the flip to that being that most/alot of those bikes never leave a trail centre red so never need it.

The bit that had me thinking tough is that the ‘middle’ or second ring is now bigger, so a bash is arguably more useful/necassary.

I’m in Nidderdale. Ahhh, I’d thought Crosstrax did them, but their website seemed to say otherwise… (though it did temp me with an TransAm, but nothing more). Cheers to you Sir!

I would be very interested to hear how you find your test rides. Especially on the Commies as I have not commie dlr anywhere near me… I’m in the same boat new bike wise, with the following short list

Meta AM/SX (prob a custom build with Lyriks and XT brakes)
    Trek Remedy/Slash
    Covert
    Spicy

Hoping to test trek and lapierre from Boneshakers, who I would like to buy from cos they’re a great shop.

Not found a Transition dlr near me yet.

only new and old MK, but I like the new one, good grip, ok round corners, pinches if bashed, but only had one and if I’m honest my miss timed the unweight and deserved it…

Only had a few rides though, not used to it yet.

GSuperstar… that looks like it may be the winner!

Thanks to everyone for the info, I feel at least halfway caught up now.

Interested in anyones dual ring choices also…

not decided on new bike yet but likely to build up a meta SX to my own spec from just the frame… tempted to by full bike and have all this sorted for me, but would loose cash swapping fork and brakes by my calculations.

Interesting, I’d prefer a bash as I’ve got used to them and tend to through my BB overstuff now without a care in the world. I haven’t though of goin 1 X 10. could be the answer, my 456 is single ring and I never looked back.

So to put a bash on would you need a crankset sold as a triple, so the bash could go on the outside and even if just a single ring it was the right size to go on and sat in the middle so gets a good chainline to each end of the cassette?

So, from my limited and befuddled research (don’t set fire to me) bash rings seem a no no, are they out of fashion? do they need a triple chainset (where as they use to involve the sacrifice of a chain ring they now need space for an extra one?)

errr… how? Arguing about the olympics, or cleaning up the metaphorical streets of the forum before the visiting olympians arrive?

I have not once ever not continued to contact the seller, as I can read information in front of me, which is all that new form highlights. Nor have I ever been contacted about something, the answer to which was in explicitly in the listing. I have been asked to clarify but thats fine. Its abit OTT, like much on Ebay…

Has it been bad recently? I admit I only float about topics that interest me, but its seemed quite chill recently [on those such topics] – though there was a coffee one where people disagreed, about how to make coffee. It can’t be that surely??? I mean they were just wrong, not rude per se.

Blue and the red overlap for a short while at Gisburn. I’ve seen kids on it they seem to love it, see no reason to avoid.

Well I’m sure it will be the usual street party in honour of successful national sports teams, with the same rough routine and gear they use when other teams go out and bring glory bock to our shores such as…

    oh…

No i doubt the national psyche will actually have the slightest idea what to do…
