Its really nicely shot is that, not the type of vid i usually go for, but they have clearly put a lot of thought into it…

I wonder if ebay pulled it as “Would prefer cash on collection but will accept paypal. Quick sale would be ideal so message me.” implies intention to break the ebay rules etc…

How seriously did the fuzz sounds to be taking it?

The public don’t have too many opportunities to really get the message across. Just occasionally, it’s necessary to humiliate someone a little to force them to consider their actions.

    and

You’re absolutely right. It wasn’t the time or place for George Osborne.

both valid comments I can’t argue with… It was a poorly thought out choice, the reaction was predictable.

I’m not sure how I feel about this. Not the time or place to me. Dignified silence, and then cheer the athlete who won.

Booing G.O. at any other time, in Tescos – when he drives past – when talks about us all being in it together – when he’s getting his morning paper etc, fine by me!

Would people be happy with a place that just did a good job fixing their bikes for the going rate?

That’s actually a good question. Would I be happy with just that? For me and my needs. No. But I’m a pretty much fully fledged home bike mechanic now.

But i’ll be honest, I struggle to balance my ideal bike shop use ethics, (buying stuff from them), with my financial reality time and time again. But then truth is, I probably can’t afford, by high street economics to run 3 bikes. I hope to get some of the groupset for my new build from lbs, and in my defense they don’t sell any of the bits I’ve bought so far…

but would you fight them if they were disabled?

If they can climb onto the top of a moving monorail/cable car, they are, in my view, sufficiently able bodied for it to be OK to defeat them in life or death combat, and then make a laboured pun/pithy joke about it!

It’s thought processes like these which are why I have a hard time behaving responsibly on monorails, Cable cars and light railways. Overwhelming urge to climb out onto the roof and fight someone…

I go 38 – 40ish, you can’t go lower than 35 with contis or you’re asking to get a pinch [if you’re me], I go a little less on the front.

My localist bike shop has a coffee machine… seemingly for ornamental purposes. They’re weird, if you don’t know them by name, then you get pretty much ignored, so i don’t spend there apart from one thing only they have. I have once walked in and basically said words to the effect of “I have money and fancy a change, sell me some new tyres” – nothing happened, other than a nodding grunt towards the tyre department.

So my additional would be “Acknowledge your customers!” For a text book example of how to do this, and therefore actually encourage them to spend money, send their friends to you, and praise you on the internet for being awesome, go to boneshakers in Harrogate. Who despite being 16 miles away, i actually consider to be my LBS.

i know you should change if the .75 marker is on, but if the 1.0 goes in and .75 doesnt then what does that mean? i dont understand the end of the video

I have encountered chains SO stretched [worn] that the .75 is too short to go in anymore…

I’m currently on a 3rd chain (showed as worn very quickly which I take as a sign the cassette is on its way out. Chainring is past its best too so running into the ground. Annoyed though As I would have prefered to have been doing that over winter as opposed to going into winter with a new chainset, but hey ho…

Can you explain how it is ‘more accurate’?.

measuring the stretch over 4 times as many links means your measuring 4 times as much stretch, if the margin of measurement error is .25mm (for example), you are getting a 4 times more accurate measurement.

However chain tools are (i assumed until right now typing this) accurately manufcatured, so more accurate than the naked eye…

    #commence arguement now

For fitting, just get some bits of wood, so the surface applying pressure is totally flat (also helpful for some headsets). On removal, not sure.

I had to stop reading the comments on that page. dispair was threatening to eat me soul…

On the flip side I had a 30 mile ride out round my neck of the woods on Saturday, did not meet one miserable walker. Infact I met 30 plus walkers all of whom were polite and cheery. Some even cheered me on along a horible into the wind bit. Trail sharing is a state of mind.

I fitted mine with a headset press, but to prevent the pressure on wrong bit of BB issue, got two 1/2 inch bits of wood with a hole in, and used those to do the press. Worked very neatly.

Not too sure about removal though

There was a good article on this last year in the mag. you can do some preparation training, but I wouldn’t get serious until he’s 6 months old. You really want him to run ahead of you, which he will probably do naturally anyway. But the first thing is to introduce a training regime, which is as much about teaching him to learn things, as it is about teaching him specific things.

Urban people… you live in the past! My postie (James, used to go out with my mates sister), will shove stuff in the garage, or get a neighbour if it needs a sig. Most courier companies already leave stuff with neighbours round here. probably fed up with angry calls from people who’ve been told to drive into Leeds to collect. Opt out is fine, choose through your own free will to be denied your brand new shiney things!
